The real question is, how much faster would you be if you tried those things?

also, no penalty = staying within the track limits. pretty simple.

Hard to say but my reactions aren’t quick enough on a pad to correct the oversteer with a pad i’m having to overcorrect, with a wheel it’s easier to follow the racing line because your arms are locked in position with them taking the force that’ll pull you out left or right from center so it’s no problem to sure up and combat.

Maybe I’d have more precise control switching to the right stick?

I could be wrong too, maybe it’s placebo but I seem to notice moving up or down on the stick seems to also shift the weight of the car?

Back when I played GT3&4 I used to use the right stick for throttle / brake and held down R1? to redline each gear for maximum speed but with the DS4 i’ve gotten used to using the L2/R2 triggers instead and using L1/R1 for gear shifting just feels like too much going on and unatural vs flappy paddles on a wheel and pedals for brake and throttle.

I spent the first year and a half steering with the D pad. About 5 months ago I switched to left stick. Definitely more precise steering. 👍

Max I did was 1:34.
Dont know how people are doing 1:30s, let alone 1:28.
Probably cheaters.
Heeyyyyy, I did a 1:30 after only 3 laps in the WRX. Depends what car you use and feel comfortable in. I haven't set a time in the META triplets because I was making liveries for them inbetween races.

I'm an average player and could probably do 28s in those, if I spent the time. Anyway, I'm passed those and looking forward to The Big Three(yeah, I know Toyota are one of the three nowadays).

I tell you, I did a Custom Race in the C7 and without looking at the set up, it feels like a super close ratio gearbox from 2-3-4. Snappy mid range acceleration. Might be real good for Brands Hatch.

Might try it another day.
Been rocking the Cayman GT4 and Citroen hatch GT 11

I guess that makes me a cheater then, even though I haven't cracked 1:30. :D Best I've done at Brands is 1:31.556 & that was with the car getting a little slippy slidey.

I had one race in the bag & 2nd place was closing in. On the last lap, he bumped me going into Surtees & I plowed right into the sand trap. 🤬 His penalty was enough to give the guy behind him the win, but I wanted to knock his back bumper off in retaliation.

After that, I earned enough credits on the R4M to get a Gr. 4 Viper. I took 2 spins (literally) around the track, thanks to SR B drivers.

Hate that so much.
People will always hit you in the first turn from the first lap and very last turn from the last lap.

When I played GT1 and 2 on pad as a teen when I had no idea what I was doing, it was d-pad, x & square. Back then the buttons were analog though, so a certain amount of feathering could be accomplished with just a button. I only used the ds4 for a few months on GT Sport before getting a wheel, and was improving, but that rate of improvement did increase significantly after getting used to the wheel. There are definitely quite a few very fast pad players, one example is the literal fastest guy in the U.S., so it is possible, but a wheel definitely helps most people.

Most valuable piece of advice anyone can give you ;). I told @Pigems to git gud. He's improved massively. Ok, so he did read a bunch of books and spend the entire week qualifying so that he could do 1 race before the next lot of weeklies start :p. And I told @JoeyLeonine to git gud... he dug himself out of DR/D after that advice 👍. ...

Thank you Dr. Invisigoth , I understand now. Well, would you tell me to git gud then, please ?
I've wanted to be a captain since forever who's good at steering boats, but now I want to be a race driver  !

Oh, and I almost forgot to say :
... I have to make full steering locks with full gas on the pedal to get that thing turning.

... could be the reason why ...
... some idiot t-boned me on the first turn of Tzukuba. ...

:dopey:

Gonna be a tough one

Yeah, I guess, but I do a lot of lobby racing on the side too. I always try to be as clean as I can but I´m sure I´ll run into a wall some time; although I won´t back down when that happens! :D Also, I´ve been a long GT fan, but recently created a new account because I was stupid and forgot my password after I got a new PS4. I´ve had a lot of good races though, the fact that I won most of them doesn´t mean that they weren´t without attrition!

After running my testing for the FIA races I did a Race B, qualified first, in my RCZ. My best lap in the race? 1:30.252. I don´t know why or how I got it, I was just running like a zombie and thinking about going to sleep because it´s midnight over here. Don´t ask, lol.

How have you got 42 cars?!

A bit of ha[ppenings up ahead, but had nothing for that SLophy

Surprised myself with this one

Jinxed myself with the CRB. An over zealous TT wants to divebomb at T2 and then try and push me over. I shoved back with that mess at the next corner. Wound up having an awesome CLEAN scrap with an 86. We thanked each other after the race.

By that Logic 30% of the field is cheating. Im Not really fast And run low 1.32 in the race And a qually of 1.30.8. That gets me somewhere around 3-7th starting position. If You know the track Well 1.34 is really pretty slow. And Thats coming from a slow guy.

Didn't someone just say it's cool to do whatever is within the game's limits? Might've been Pigems.
I guess I don't really care. It's a video game.

that right there.... baffling to me how a new thread about a release of 4 cars can attract pages and pages of comments and have people up in arms or frothing at the mouth in anticipation... and don't even dare mention the word SPA

Dang! I was getting fastest laps all race and at the final chicane, on lap 6, P1 glitched. It slowed down P2 and I hit P2 like a brick wall and stunted my progression. They both wound up 1 second ahead. Maybe it was me, I don't know. I do know I was .6 purple on my FL, to get me down to 1:33.8. Someone else got the Fl at the finish.

Excellent start again which made up two positions and the rest were legit passes. Oh and I got 0.5 for a corner cut(I tapped the brakes and turned too soon, two corners before the underpass).

Maaaan, I guessh sooo! I better shtart puntin´ those damn bois off at turn 1 and I´ll obvioushly win the race! Thanksh for the advice!

Now your getting it! I knew I'd learn ya!

Git gud. There, you shall now be an alien within 2 weeks. If it doesn't work, blame it on @Pigems :D

<takes out notebook>.....<mutters> "One *more* thing to blame on @Pigems ...."

Garbage in, garbage out. It comes down to seat time. :sly:. And don't give up on your dream! GTS give you both racing *and* land barges that will give you experience at steering boats :p.

I don't know how you managed to do so well with the Viper. I used to love it, but the handling characteristics have changed so much with the various updates. I managed to improve on my M4 time for qualifying, but during the race it was like wearing clothes that don't fit. Just couldn't find my happy place .

How many people cheat depends on the race. On a grid of 20, if I finish P6, then 25% were cheating. If I finish P11, then 50% were cheating, and if I finish P16, then 75% were cheating. Obviously anyone who beats me must be cheating! ;).

Ugh, having a nightmare at Brands tonight. And sadly it has been all my fault. Just had 1 disaster each race and even the recovery doesn't bail me out. Thought I could blame 1 accident after getting punted but it was lag. Even raced back through the field to 5th but slid through next to last corner and tapped guy in front into a slide, slowed down to let him through and didn't slow enough for final turn so binned it and let 4 people through instead of 1.

What a night.

Oh, I wasn't making any ground in it and fortunate to start at the position I did. Enough to stay ahead of the 86. Feels like a beginner's car.

Aaand an end to the night of BS drivers. except they were all B/A or worse. 3 ugly races where I make 1 mistake each race, but manage to recover slightly, just driving poorly. Then a really good race. Get most of my DR back, almost all of my SR back, then I get caught in a demolition derby again.
I get slaughtered. lose a few hundred DR, but expected the way I was driving. Lose 13 SR and get back in the puntathon groups. Say all you want about the B SR level being clean but I haven't had it in A or B level lately. I'm not fast enough to drive my way out of it consistently it seems right now. Been to 79 SR about 5 times lately and each time I get a disaster of a race to follow. Usually with someone trying to just punish me for daring to race them. I did do one more race after this, got a good result but a reckless guy in front got wild through Hawthorne and westfield, came back on and got angry that I was passing him so turned into me and then simply spun off? I was braking at the time and turning right so have no idea what he was doing as we were too early to turn in anyway. And thanks to this I am currently back down to B/B again. Was 1 point from being S SR but guess that's a useless idea. Here's a copy my latest 2 laps or so of hell.

EDIT: And yes, I did get into it a bit but was just a touch angry at times. Still working on making sure I temper that, but my crazy move at Surtees was to avoid hitting them when I screwed up my braking. I still think that's a no pass area although the people I have been matched with lately don't agree.

@wicken I'll have to try that Megane. It's usually a favourite of mine but I've been enjoying the Scirocco lately for stability.

Perhaps I'm boxing a little above my weight now so better get ready for the fall. For a while (41 days of racing) I've been DR B with 13 to 17,000 points and holding that +/- depending on the day. After a few good weeks I'm in the mid 20's so qualifying in strong DR A & B fields. It is definitely better driving with players more likely to sit behind, hold a line and wait for the chance rather than just dive bomb (so far that's my experience anyway). However, they still insist on pushing beyond their limits in the races. The 4C and Megane are particularly prone to this. I suppose I'm conservative but I do lap in races a little slower than qualifying because I've realised over time that keeping it on the track pays better than setting fast laps and ending up in the gravel. Most races I will make up at least 3 spots just by not messing it up and driving by parked cars. Last race out I started 9th with DR S, A and B field and by lap 4 was still there with nearly 2 seconds to P8 3 seconds to P10. OK, I'm happy enough to take that. THEN...everyone ahead decided to slip, slide and spin their way off. In the last lap, without making an actual over take maneuver I made up 5 places.

The restriction is the speed of light.....This is what players term "lag" - the delay between where the game thinks a car is and updating it to where it actually was.

Translates to: You can play just as well on a clean 8mb/s (ADSL1) connection as on a 1Gb/s cable or fibre connection, but distance causes high ping and lag regardless of connection type.

...but my crazy move at Surtees was to avoid hitting them when I screwed up my braking. I still think that's a no pass area although the people I have been matched with lately don't agree.
It's a valid pass location, but only if the car in front messes up their entry pretty bad. BTW, we've raced in the same races in the past, but not in the last couple of weeks.
