I got into a bit of spat earlier on with another driver. I accused him of cheating after the race since he passed me while wall riding through T1. He immediately started to throw a tantrum, said he was hit, so after the race I checked the replay. He was indeed hit, but right after took full advantage of the situation and applied full throttle through the corner. That's wall riding.

Next race I was still ready to apologize for calling him out (had not double checked his gas pedal input yet) but before I could say anything he said, I'll give you something to report this race, etc. And sure he did, rammed me at the start, got a penalty. Then I had to pit cause I started on IM so he was behind me again and punted me again. He fell back this time, finished behind me with SR.B.

So he logged on a different account to punt me some more next race (I was trying a slow car, he was in the Ford of course). Then started sending PMs as well, "Apologize or I'll keep doing this". Blocked, reported, bye. Haven't seen him after that. Some people need anger management. He didn't mess up my best lap recording anyway. Finish 2nd or 5th, doesn't matter to me.

No, but in the time trial (not the qualifying time trial) where I tested it, I made sure that BoP was enabled. I didn't touch anything else other than increasing that top speed tab a little.

There are many variables being taken into account with BOP that PD try to equalise using the big levers of Power and Weight. Unlocking the settings won't equalised the performance the way you think it will IMO.

Yeah, but I don't think that changing power/weight alone (i.e. BoP) can prevent effective one-makes on optimal circuits. I do feel as if allowing that one setting would change things. In fact, I think even in the most extensive degree, only downforce, anti-roll bar, and final gearing should be available for tuning, with all other settings being locked. Some cars have more optimal gear ratios/top speeds/downforce for certain circuits than others and I want to equalize that.

I think, for one case, it'd certainly help to address concerns that the Group C cars can't compete with the other Gr.1 cars when in the same race. It's either they're useless or they're the only car that's there, respectively as seen with Le Mans with and without the chicanes. When it's a race at Le Mans with the chicanes, you could increase the downforce of the Group C cars while increasing the top speed of the other Gr.1 cars.

I don't see what the downsides would necessarily be, here. I'm not even proposing the permitting of changes to individual gears, or the final ratio - just that quick-tune, top speed tab. People would ideally also have an unranked quick match feature and more extensive lobby options as well, if they want. This is mostly in the context of Sport Mode. We also now have in-game community features where people could perhaps discuss the settings they saw in a replay.

If people can understand the difference between picking a lightweight and a heavy character in Mario Kart, they can understand tuning top speed for a course. There would also still be one-make races where tuning would be entirely prohibited. If the system is so that people are gonna pick the same car for a particular course, when there are over a dozen other cars available in the first place, why even bother allowing any Gr.3/Gr.4/etc. car be eligible?

And how many times have one of us been caught behind a pair of battling cars to only watch one go spinning & the yellow comes out immediately? We are already beyond the spinner before we could ever think, "Hmmm. Should I slow down?"

After spending days working on this, it's a bit frustrating to not be able to take it to race A. I never really understood why they won't let us bring our own cars. :irked:

When I started using the wheel, and to this day... I am still on chase cam. :lol:

Chase cam for me. If I get the rear of my car loose with my DS4, I can spot it easier & correct.

Think I'm gonna make an alt account so I can race this week without worrying about tanking my DR/SR. Bathurst is a ton of fun but in my bracket the races are more destruction derby than sprint, and my DR doesn't increase to warrant the big drop in SR.

And you did the tweak on a number of different cars and checked the difference, repeatedly and over the course of a number of representative laps to reduce variability?

Is that the top speed in terms of the overall final drive ratio or just the top gear ratio?

What are the numbers of people in the different DR classes? Surely this one make racing you talk about is in the top class? Because down among us peasants we run what ever we feel like, the deciding factor is us drivers anyway. I see loads of different makes in every race I am in.

It's pretty rare, I've had the yellow flag penalty about 5 times in 8,000 races.

Last time it happened (before this one) was at Autopolis where 3 of us got it when the yellow flag of a previous incident was still up while a car in front of us went wide and spun out. I've had it as well at Bathurst where a yellow flag from 2 corners ahead gave me 3 sec for completing my pass I had already started. And a few times at N24. That first sharp right left turn always has the yellow flag up and the position indicator usually switches around through those 2 corners. Yet getting it from a car serving a penalty is a first for me as well.

Wait. So a light tap of the wall gives a 5s penalty but wall riding for a block and a half gives nothing because he got bumped beforehand?

Makes sense.

No, but the "top speed" setting is just that first setting under the transmission section. I didn't change the final drive nor the 6th gear. I also tried to replicate my driving from the stock gearing as much as I could. I could compare my minute changes to the Genesis Gr.3 to the GT LM Spec II Test Car (as that's the one that seems most popular for this race's qualifying leaderboards), but I can't help but to wonder if it'd help if BoP made the downforce and final drive ratios uniform. It'd be easier for PD than doing it on a track-by-track basis.

I just don't think that power and weight changes alone can balance the classes - not when the cars differ so much in downforce and final drive ratios. I think just having BoP through power and weight changes works for the Manufacturer Series where you're locked-in for a given car, but not so much in the Nations Cup, Time Trials that don't allow tuning, or daily races.

EDIT: I think the option was specifically listed as "Max. Speed (Auto Set)". And I specifically set the Genesis Gr.3's to 180mph. I'll check the stock value on the Ford GT in a bit.

EDIT2: When I checked, the top ten times were around 2:11.xxx. My best time with the Genesis Gr.3 with its stock gearing was about 2:16.xxx. When I moved the Max. Speed (Auto Set) up a little to 180mph, I replicated my driving as best I could from my prior best time, and I did indeed get 2:11.xxx. But I agree that it would be good if I checked the Max. Speed (Auto Set) value for the Ford GT Gr.3.

I thought that there were two settings that change all the ratios: Max. Speed (Auto Set) and final gear ratio. But maybe instead of the former option, I ought to check the latter option. I

I'll compare both the stock Max. Speed (Auto Set) for the two cars, as well as their stock final gear ratios. Then, I'll also see what final gear ratio gets me a similar time in the Genesis Gr.3 as when I adjusted the auto-set maximum speed. Then I'll compare that modified final gear ratio to the stock final gear ratio in the Ford GT Gr.3.

But would it really be that bad if BoP made the final gear ratios - and not the Max. Speed (Auto Set) setting - uniform per car, as well as the downforce?

EDIT: I see now. Top Speed (Auto Set) doesn't change the final gear ratio but it does change all the other gear ratios. It's also an option that's not listed as having a metric in the stock settings, so I'll just list the gear ratios and the speeds connected to them. Here were the settings:

Genesis Gr.3 (stock) - Gears are 2.772/65, 2.123/85, 1.674/108, 1.375/132, 1.139/159, and 0.962/196. Final drive is 3.727.

Genesis Gr.3 (my tune) - Top Speed (Max) is set to 180. Gears are 2.705/67, 1.973/92, 1.552/117, 1.279/142, 1.105/164, and 1.000/188.

GT LM Spec II Gr.3 (stock) - 2.730/65, 1.905/93, 1.510/118, 1.245/165, and 0.930/205. Final drive is 3.360.

EDIT2: It also seems that changing the final drive, insofar that the speed reached by the last gear is matched by an auto-set top speed setting, doesn't lead to the same gear ratios. I'm gonna test the Genesis Gr.3 with having the same final gear ratio as a stock LM Spec II.

EDIT3: Tested Genesis Gr.3 with same final gear ratio of 3.360. Still got 2:11.xxx. It was actually a few tenths better, even, but that could also be partially due to my driving, not too sure about that. Gonna try the stock GT LM Spec II Gr.3.

EDIT4: Got a time of 2:09.xxx with the GT LM Spec II. Both this and the Genesis Gr.3 had BoP on, and the GT LM Spec II had no changes made to the transmission - it remained stock.

EDIT5: But now that I take a look, the GT LM Spec II has about 55 less horsepower than the Genesis Gr.3 after BoP is applied. So maybe it can compensate for gearing and downforce after all. Maybe.

EDIT6: Also, I just tried out Race C, and it does seem like half or more of the field wasn't a GT LM Spec II, so I suppose things weren't as bad as I thought.

I have only run 1 race between 2 accounts on the mountain. After serving a penalty, I fell in behind a Cayman. Coming down to the Chase, I may have been on the brakes a tad too long & they locked up in the rear. I went sideways into the Cayman & knocked him off into the sand. I didn't get a penalty (probably deserved it), but I just haven't gone back. But, thanks PD for putting into a daily/weekly race schedule.
 
Penalty system works great y'all.


The Megane from the start of this gif was blocking and dive bombing people all race. His penalty was actually from when he turned sharp right through Forest's Elbow to slam me into the wall. My unintentional dive bomb into the corner in this gif was from getting back on the track and missing my braking point.

None of the rabble got a penalty for it. Thirds time tonight I've been dropped from top 5 placement to around 12th because of dive bombs or intentional slams. Why do I do this to myself.

I've settled on 3 accounts now, I have one for FIA, one for daily's and one for gtplanet events.
 
SR is a lost cause right now. Dropped to.the back of a Race C. Drove super cautious and still only gained 3 SR. Lost 3 for wall bumps and got punted twice when I passed a penalty server and they plowed into me on the hairpin or turn 1. Cost me about 900 DR to test that. Gained more in an hard fought clean race a couple of days ago. SR is definitely much harder to earn now.
 
This is getting to be a load of:censored:🤬🤬. I have driven like hell to be clean and stay off the walls, not touch anyone. 4 times in 2 races I get punted, twice on purpose, and only once did the other person get a penalty. Twice it was a push in the hairpin, one of those was the deliberate one. Lost 4 positions and had to claw my way back through. Others I get bumped clear into the wall, not a smash but a definite hard hit, I am getting slowed down, passed, and end of the race, blue S or A for those 🤬🤬 and I lose SR. PD has definitely worked on the penalty system but whatever handicap setup they have installed is not working at Tokyo. I don't understand how me tapping someone as they brake slightly earlier than me, yes that was my mistake, gets me 5 seconds when he didn't touch the wall, but twice rubbing me off on the wall gets another driver 2 sec total. I think I am done for the week. DR doing great but SR:banghead::banghead:

I did a couple of races with you on my US account yesterday (James_Blonde38). I was actually in this one too (P5 in this clip). I know this guy. He has many accounts. He once mentioned he has 25. Don't know why he doesn't like you, he's always been absolutely clean with me (even lifting off and letting me pass). I don't think it's anger and he's definitely not the slowest. I think he just really doesn't care about DR or SR. And he probably likes to 🤬 with people who take this game too seriously. Or just Canadians. Who knows.

I'm SR neutral this week and can count the number of "my fault" incidents on the fingers of one hand. It's a tough race, for sure. So much potential for bumps, grazes and getting caught in other people's crash.
