On paper I should love this trio of dailys, but having done a couple of practice runs at Monza, my faith in the enterprise has dipped rather!

As ever, I'm giving my first tilt a stream here:
 
Guys, there is hope that if you get your rating up to A/S you’ll be among drivers who know how to start a Monza race.

Sorry, just kidding, it’s still a **** show. I did 4 races last night starting from the back half each time because I refused to pick the GTR. I finished in the top 10 each time but only after getting punted or picking up erroneous penalties when someone in front of me stopped dead in their tracks from ramming someone else.

And then there was this guy who I had to pass twice one race, note how he doesn’t get a penalty (that’s me getting punted)



But after 4 races I finally had some clean battles...and of course I was exhausted and blew it on the final lap. Anyway, below is a good example of how damn fast the GTR is. Even if I get a draft boost I can’t pass while in the Mazda Atenza. The BOP is totally bogus when the draft lets one car close in 8/10ths on a single straight and another barely maintain a gap.

Side note: 4H/6M seemed to be a good strategy, survive the first few laps get some draft boost, then go on attack the second part of the race. When others are on worn tires or hards, I can at least make up time in the braking zones.

15th to 6th to 8th, it can be done, in a slow car in a mostly A/S lobby.

 
I use the DS4, but my right triggers dodgy so I don't always get full throttle so I mapped it to the right stick instead. For me personally its better anyways who needs to look around anyhow? I use square for look left, circle for right and R1 for rear view. Oh and x is the hand brake for use in emergency stops when I miss the braking, its great for over heating the rears usually leaving me to spin on the exit if I do manage to stop enough to get though the corner that is. Just raced again in the Mustang and got a 3rd place, 1000 DR for me.
I usual start on hards and do a 5 laps on each compound.

Tried to be a smartass and start at the back on hards, when race starts go straight into pits to change on mediums (before you cross startline) and do the whole race on mediums - GENIUS!

Ummmmmm, until you drive straight through the pits and come out 10 seconds behind last place on same hards you started with...

Ahem... like I say, a friend told me about this, ahem, cough cough.....

Geez everybody knows the worst dirty drivers run the stock livery. They run the meta car also almost always.
For example if you see a stock liveried gr4 Megane at Mt Panorama there is a 94 percent chance that person is a dirty driver. Now a chrome or fluorescent one, you are only looking at approximately 60 percent chance they are dirty.
Interestingly if they have also applied decals and the livery looks good there’s less than 15 percent chance of dirt.
Beware the player who doesn’t bother painting a car, or who doesn’t even want to show his or her livery.
They are bad people, and up to no good.
 
So far I really like all the races this week, though I need to get better at Monza to escape the mid-back pack carnage before it can become viable as a race vs the demo derby it is right now.

Almost all of my entries at Tokyo have been poles but I’ve yet to turn one around for a win, including this one where I had a drag race to the end but still finished about a hood length behind P1 arrrgggg:

I’ve got plenty of time to play today, goal is to break into a sub-2 min quali time (I’m .08 off right now, very doable) and rake in some wins.

Nurburg was really fun but I’ve been exceeding the limits of the car, haven’t finished too poorly but my mistakes have cost me good battles. Don’t have goals today in B aside from getting fun races.

Monza I have to sort out how to drive the first two chicanes and survive... everybody.

It looks like I left all the bad luck in last week, if I grind away at race A all week like I did yesterday I may be able to finally push into DR A.

Still faster than most, anyway some people are just faster than others what matters is that it's a game and we just have clean and fun racing no matter how fast you are

I wasn’t razzing you about your speed, it’s your attitude and your generalizing of people’s driving based on their liveries.

I think a 7M/3H strategy would work well. If only I'd known earlier, I may not have spun and dropped 5 positions from 8th.

I find the opposite works for me. With my driving style, there is no way I can make a set of mediums last 7 laps :crazy:.

I find the opposite works for me. With my driving style, there is no way I can make a set of mediums last 7 laps :crazy:.

Didn't mean anything by it, just a general observation since launch, not everyone with bad liveries are bad drivers but it can often be an indication of someone with less than acceptable driving standards ie ramming and driving people into walls.

I m using the same strategy and it seems to work, although I can not pass gtr even with draft or a better corner exit. if I pass and I m on the last 2-3 laps of the race I drive all the defensive lines and managed to keep a few behind
 
That's what i am using too. I was squabbling with two cars last night, they were on mediums, i was on hards. I pit then ran two quick laps in clean air and beat them both by 7 seconds.
 
I'm new on GTSport (i bought it a few weeks back) and I'm trying to run the Monza event with the Gr3 but in 3 races I completed, I got +20.000sec penalty despite not making anything but race as clean as I can do. What's the deal? I did other races with the gr3 and gr2 with no penalties at all the other weeks.

I read in reddit that i have to use all the tyres, not only one of them, is that the reason for the penalty? I have to use both, the hard and medium tyres in the race?

Correct. You have to use both compounds.

Since i started playing online on GT5, there is and there will always be one sure thing: Monza is a wreckfest.

People trying to overtake you in the strangest ways, people that probably forgot their brakes at the pits and therefore send you to heaven in turn one, people that do everything they can to prevent you from overtaking (The other day I literally saw one player that, when he was overtaking after the parabolica, got bumped so hard that he was sent into the pitlane).
I only race on Monza so i'm pretty used to all this stuff, i don't even get mad anymore;
If i'm in a lobby with more than 8 players, i don't even attempt a pole lap because i already know that i'll end up in the back, i prefer starting from the back and calmly make my way through.

Today, as i was racing in a Gr.3 BoP Race, almost 2 seconds ahead of the others, i got bumped.

"Strange", i thought, no one was behind / beside me, nor did i spin out, so what happened?

Took my loss, saved the replay and when i went to watch it, i saw this:



Strike, i guess :lol:
