It is good to read this, even if I experienced completely different. It gives back the hope - maybe I was just attended the wrong time, maybe I was just unlucky today with the matching...
By the way, if anybody can help me: is there a good, in-depth writeup about the penalty system? I was advised to just forget about the seconds, they will be deducted at the end. Today I got some and and didn't bothered with it, then realized it is getting up and up... Then I see here that different player ratings means different penalties?!? So it is an illusion to expect any opponent to take the same care as I am, about our lines if we are side-by-side.

Nah, never give up, don't lose your enjoyment. There's good and bad days, you win you lose, quite like irl ;).

You certainly will find some info here :

You gotta read the last 27 pages though :D.

I’m really bad at the ring and lapped a 8:30 in Qualify. I never race here, so I’m just in need of some help on strategies, because I want to try a race.
If someone could be so kind.
I’m driving a Porsche.

It's all about knowing the track. There is no one bit of help for the whole track, it's corner to corner.

The back section (after the carousel) is the most critical. That's where so much time can be lost. the optimal line requires being very close to, or on the curbing, which can also pitch you off the track.

Gotta say I'm very positively surprised atm - kind of happy even :).
I'm back from Interlagos doing 5 consecutive races there ( looks like I'm always doing 5 in a row ).
Grand slams for the first three with full AS grids, then came upon some top 10 racers for the next 2 runs.
Came in on 6 and 2, great to see that I can keep up somehow.
Best thing was, I've never had 5 in a row that were that clean ... very relaxed, patient, precise racers there ... actually a wonderful race night .

@Alexony
You did not need to slow down before the line - I feel guilty now .
Stepped on my brakes as soon as I noticed. You "won" though. Will try to give you payback next time :D.

PS
Can't sleep now - still full of adrenaline :dunce: !
Nice to see someone enjoyed race b as much as i was.
echo your statement "that were that clean ... very relaxed, patient, precise racers there ... actually a wonderful race night"

I raced 6 times and Dr boost +5000

Finally I can upload the race, so I get 2 penalty first on early race second on second on last lap both is my fault since I miscalculated thing thankfully just cut corner not hit other

With so many corners on that track, every corner can loose or gain you seconds. It all adds up. The back section is usually where I gain the most time over the others. Once you hit a rhythm that part flows, but if you mess that up it all falls apart. Those curb stones are deadly if you hook a tire behind them!

Wow, what a night at Interlagos.
My time was 1.39.310 and that must have been my limit as over 8 races and qualifying drives I could never get close to it again.
The upside was that I got slotted pretty good in the top 5 in the races on that time.
The down side was that I paid dearly in SR over the first races. Some deserved and some really not. I have been going from S to B in only three days.
In one of the races tonight I got a 1 min penalty for just a touch, side to side and that gave me a total of 10 points deduction.

BUT, the last race in the Atenza was so exciting, started as 4th and ended up WINNING ! That made it worth it to stay up until midnight. It was a very exciting race that went back and forth. It also got me a clean race and that hopefully will start to lift me back to S rating.
I will update the post when I have it uploaded.

Hope your races were great today !
Good night !!

Interlagos was a rollercoaster tonight. So many dirty drivers on that track. It didn't help that GR.4 and Interlagos is my weakest combination and with a 1:39.5 qualifying time I was always starting in the chaos. I managed a couple of clean race bonuses, however since a clean race is only worth 4 points, and getting hit 3 times costs 20 points per race, I briefly ended up in SR.B after 2 dirty races in a row. I climbed back up to 79 SR from there, rest has to wait until tomorrow.

It would be much better if penalties could not be served on the track to avoid crap like this

He claimed he was trying to avoid me... good job

Next up
A Miyabi Genesis 10 laps
B Dragontrail Gr.3 5 laps
C Monza Gr.4 8 laps

Not a great recipe to restore SR :/

for me too, I issued 1:37.882 that was good enough for starting from pole each time I attempted the race. Anyway, there was no kind of respect yesterday, always divebombed from other drivers..got SR drop from 97 to 39 in 3 races...anyway, it should not but it's part of the game

It’s time to buy a wheel pal ;)

A wheel isn't necessary to be comfortably with manual gears. A wheel isn't even necessary to be highly rated

True, but it's much more natural to change up and down with paddles than try and coordinate my hands to use X/Square or L1/R1 whilst using L2/R2 for accelerate and brake. Also with a wheel and pedal set, you then remove the onus of accelerate/brake from your hands too...

By the way, if anybody can help me: is there a good, in-depth writeup about the penalty system? I was advised to just forget about the seconds, they will be deducted at the end. If you have a penalty greater than 5 seconds, it will increase if not served. This is why people just stop all over the track now... to stop it going up.

It is advisable to leave the penalties if they are under 5 seconds because, for example, it takes longer than 2 seconds to serve a 2 second penalty in-race... since the penalty changes, you have to be basically stopped for the timer to go down.

Thanks for the advices! I appreciate.
Still the question is, to follow common sense, or forget it and "learn" the system's own glitches. I know which way is "successful", but I'm afraid it's just not perfectly me.

Yes, I am one of the losers who go on just to find a proper place where I can be slow without affecting others...

I had an extremely satisfying race yesterday around 6:30PM GMT with the Hyundai Genesis.
I started from the 3rd position, then got up to 2nd at the first corner and stayed there and had a really good close battle with the driver on the 1st position. There were a lot of moments with what seemed less than a millimeter between us, but since I got the clean race bonus, I think there was no actual contact :)
We both said a few good words to each other after the race and left, but if you are reading this thread, send me a friend request :D You were driving under UK flag like me.
My PSN was and is: Raghza615

I was a victim of this last night... a guy just stopped hard in front me on a bend. I rammed him (now way of avoiding) and got 7 seconds of penalties. Thanks.

I really like DT. To me, it's the best track in the game. Offline, the AI are fastest there and online competition is fierce. Started 15th, up to 6th in the Gr.3 Daily.

Is it just me or does it feel like Monza is appearing nearly every day in the dailies? I’m actually getting sick of it..

I tried to start "dr reset" process last night.. Hit the walls on purpose for one race to get penalties but god damn.. It's so boring. Guess I'll just go on with the messed up rating.. Unless there's a serious downside?

Noticed last night that the guy who started on pole had "12th" above his name before the rolling start and the guy on second place had "1st". It took several laps for the standing to become correct. And in the next race again. In the end it didn't matter but a weird little bug. Haven't noticed that happening before.

How are you enjoying sport mode now mate?

I like it, but it's so risky online... easy to clip the chicane and lose a) the race and b) your SR

I don't even bother... I thought I'd give it a try the other day and set a Q time, got like 5 seconds of penalties for just putting two wheels on the curbs. Pointless.

I hope that wasn't me. Yesterday I served my penalties once after Suzuka's hairpin on the left side, and others on the right of the home straight, near the pit wall.

What are you trying to do?
I clipped the wall on the left after the chicane. Meanwhile, a racer plowed straight into the chicane. Crazy stuff. I tell you, this one's got the heart rate up. Onto my third race in-a-row. Breaking in the new Evo, to buy me a Gr.4 Evo for Monza.

Thanks mate, I'm really enjoying it again and was just thinking of updating my thread tomorrow :)
I did a few races without fighting for the lead to get my SR back up and it did not go well at all lol. Since I wasn't aiming for the win, my driving was sloppy and slow, so I didn't gain much DR and was struggling to get the SR rating up as well. I didn't treat the Sport mode races with the respect I used to.
Luckily I had a few races where the drivers were rather clean and everything started going uphill again :) With the great race I had yesterday, I gained quite a lot DR and if I do a few clean races today, I should be back at SR/S again!
Thanks for the motivation I needed at that moment bro :)

No, it wasn't you... it was on T2 BB Raceway. Yes, of all places... a high speed oval with very little room for manoeuvre. It's literally impossible to avoid someone when you are at full throttle on that bend as you have to have full steering lock on at the same time. If you release, you go right and hit the wall, you can't steer harder as you are already on full lock....
