I finally dipped my toes in Sport mode yesterday (after getting a free PS Plus trial), & have to say that the racing standards were very low indeed. It was the Gr.4 Daily race at Laguna, & I don't think I'll be trying Sport mode again. Don't get me wrong, there is skill involved in leaning on cars, nudging them wide to overtake, pushing them off, or divebombing people without giving yourself a penalty etc. It reminded me of old school BTCC on a bad day with Jason Punto & Matt Kill going at it hammer & tongs!

In stark contrast, I set up a public lobby called "Clean, Competent, & Conscientious!" last night & met some incredibly clean drivers. There were only six of us on track, but the driving standards were high & it was a lot of fun.

Driving standards in sport mode vary wildly depending on time of day, SR rating, track and car choice. Keep sampling and keep an eye on commentry here, you may well find some very good racing occasionally.

As for the SR talk for race C, I’ll say that while I’ve had plenty of rubs and bumps, and I’ve been forced out at least once each race, it’s been really clean otherwise for me.

Lots of wide corners with a lot of room for divebombs but mostly clean drivers in my experience! Last night on last lap someone definitely used me for their brakes on a wayyyy to aggressive lunge, but that’s really been the worst of it.

despite it all I don’t think I’ve lost a SR point here, the clean laps far out weighing the dirty.

Hope you have the same luck!

BTW! In race B, I love running the 86! Despite loosing several car lengths in EVERY short straight, I want y’all people to know, I loose all respect for those I overtake in the FFs. (Noob cannons) :p lol gain a few positions each race, but more just staying on the track, then actual overtakes. But once I’m ahead, the inside line is mine! Muahahah. Atleast there’s a mix of WRXs and Lancers

The two tyre compounds are not helping, start on Hards even in 9th, there is still someone behind on Mediums who'll push until they get through, then of course when you are on Mediums they'll fight like crazy to keep you behind causing a whole pile up of cars and it'll ruin your race, happens all the time.

So far the clean races at Fuji have been almost never, whatever the time of day, here in the EMEA region.

The defenders/blockers are as much of an issue as the punters now. :(

No Viper to defang, but had my tyres ruined by P2(that finished 1st) and a few others behind it. Just dove up my inside and continued to try and bully me down the order. Felt like punting everyone in top 5.

I fought back and nudged my way back to P1 before the final turn. A C7 had a penalty, while behind me in P2. So, don't know if it was the culprit.

Anyway, all four tyres had red. :indiff:

Changed my strategy. Could have made the RCZ go a bit further on the RMs as it was sliding so much. Half race distance, just pit for RH.

I don't block so, RCZ got the run and inside at T1 on Lap 11.

the RCF is underrated on fuji this week I find it to be the best overall car for me good tire wear stable quick glad to see other people using as well

I think Fuji has been great fun. Good mix of cars, tactics, plenty of chances to overtake and comedy driving. Last night I witnessed some blatant aggressive bumper car racing from one person in particular and was then put in a race with them again shortly after. Brilliant fun; I knew what was coming, let them barge by and then hit them so well they were off the track and pointing the wrong way. The penalty system is working much better this week - I was rightly punished both with SR and time penalties for my deliberate revenge.

The beetle remains the car for me on race C as it seems to preserve its tyres better than anything else I have tried.

I've seen mostly consistent reports about Fuji being a DR/SR destroyer this week, then the occasional report that it's not bad at all and really fun. But when I've looked closer at those latter comments, then check the details like their video or SR history, I'm inclined to think that my opinion of what's good and clean is different, so it's likely a 'pass' from me this week. Though I've come to grips with the track, and feel pretty good there, I don't want to suffer any further derailing of my ratings.
There is always going to be some bad apples even in a good race. The trick is to spot them before they hurt you. And to always drive as if the other drivers are dirty until they show you that they are trustworthy.

Maybe my SR isn't good enough to have a say?

Your SR wouldn't discredit your POV! The ones that I worry about are the ones that are under 99 more multiple days. If it's the exception that your SR is not at 99, most likely was an 'event' not your typical behavior. For example, the small dip in mine this week was from a disconnect.

But when someone says the racing is clean, and their SR bounces under 99 more than it stays pegged... I wouldn't expect to have the same opinion of the racing, if that person says it was 'clean' out there!

It brings up an interesting point... I do wish that the SR were more readily apparent when you see the other drivers in your room. Since we agree the "S" means nothing in the current system, a quick peak of the chart for each driver before the race would be a great assistance. Unrealistic, I know, but rather than see a driver's chart after, when there was a problem, think how easy it would be if you knew upfront what it looked like. All the reason more that a better system of tracking and reporting the SR is critical to a better Daily Race experience. (like rolling 10-day average).

Fuji has been a blast all week and it's a good time to get the race pace down ahead of time since manufacturer series goes to Fuji in a couple weeks. I've been slaughtering Vipers and Vettes daily

They need to just go ahead and create an A+ for SR or add SR+ that would solve a few problems. SR+ would be 99+ or A+ could be 80-99 SR

Got my fastest race lap down to a 1'38.3 and did a 1'39.3 on Hards (amazing what you can do with clear air) but still can't get a great result, just too much pushing by slower drivers, not that it is exclusive to them, it's just more annoying when they hold you up afterwards and another one pushes past to repeat the situation all over again. :ouch:

You can’t really judge it off your first couple of races because you’re racing with other new to sport mode players. You need to build up some rating to get matched with better drivers. :)

We do the daily races every Friday night in a lobby, come race with us tonight, we start at 9pm est, it’s always fun and clean racing. The link to the thread in on my signature. :)

I agree. Some of those guys you can put pressure on and they're constantly watching the rear view and go off on their own. I'm just killing it in fuji. Alot of hard work though.

Typical penalty system again, hit a spinning car by accident and "bang that's a penalty", smash a car into the barriers on purpose and "yep that's fine carry on as you were". :banghead:

You should leave it now @LVS_1986 I'd say you've more than made your point to them and it'll end up hurting some innocent person if you both carry it on.

Yes now Im not gonna hit him, if he dont hit me:)

That's strange, seeing as driving standards in public lobbies with good hosts are very high despite 'time of day, SR rating, track and car choice' etc. Occasional good racing is not good enough for me, I can get more or less consistantly good racing in well hosted public lobbies. I've never liked matchmaking & driving against random strangers since I first encountered it in GT5 Prologue, & I also disliked Quick Match in GT6. I get that some people like it, but it's not my cup of tea is all.

Actually I can judge it, & have done so. Whether you agree or dissagree with my judgement is another matter (see above). Also, nobody in the lobby seemed like newbies: they were very fast, & incredibly competent with the track & car. I'm not slow, in previous games I was faster than average, but not an alien. Yet, in this lobby certain people were a couple of seconds quicker than me. I think that there were not enough people playing & it filled the room with whoever was available regardless of DR & SR, the ratings of the other drivers was all over the place. I've also heard that some people have multiple accounts & like to race at lower levels, or intentionally lower their level to race with different people. Whatever the case was, Sport mode is not for me, I much prefer well hosted public lobbies.

Thanks for the invite. I saw your event a few days ago & was intrigued. However, 9pm EST is 2 am my time which is way too late for me. Happy racing!

If a punt = a revenge punt , then by going about with that attitude your doubling the amount of punting going on.
Now if I was behind the driver you punted and I thought “holy smoke he just wiped him out on the straight, he shouldn’t get away with that,“ and punted you at t1, there’s 3x, and then you would revenge punt me because “hey wtf did that guy punt me for” so now it’s 4x the original punt. Throw in an innocent bystander, that’s 5x, plus the original driver has now caught up so it’s now 6x....

JUST LET IT GO - if your that annoyed by it, either A don’t race publicly or B save the footage and send it them after the race and ask why?? You probably won’t get a response but maybe they’ll think more of it next race and you can both go about having cleaner racing.

I’m fed up of people behaving like this, your all ruining the game we all want to play!!! It’s stupid as sht.!!!!

Speaking of revenge I saw another takedown today. There were two cars battling (pushing) into turn 1 which got one a penalty, so I passed them as they served it and ended up behind the other, next lap I pass the other into turn 1 and they are right behind me and suddenly there's a big bang and a flash in the mirror and the road is clear behind me, the driver who'd got a penalty earlier was seconds behind, they must not have even used the brakes at all and could have easily hit me too, not that I would have bothered as my Race was ruined laps earlier anyway.

What's it like in lower Dr or Sr rooms if it's like this in the top room. :ouch:

Ive been there, and suprisingly in SR B I got 2 cleanest races in this week:)

Please don’t part quote me, it’s takes out the context of my op.
Im merely saying that punting has gone up 10 fold since the last penalty update. There sure hasn’t been a 10 fold increase in new players or punters so it’s clear to see that most of these “punts” are people dishing out there own version of “justice”.

edit : I just want people to stop punting :(:(:(

I got your point:) I only tried to laugh a little:) I also wish that there wasnt any dirty actions, but sometimes I just cant not react... Like with this brit guy, he started this chain reaction:) From that race I did 2 Cs and it was pleasure, everybody very clean and respectful, leaving room etc... It is so much fun if you can trust player whos behind or ahead or side by you...

You guys who keep getting punted do you keep your radar on? Helps a lot to keep it on. You can get a feel for who you're racing before you make the pass typically for me at least. If the person seems shady when I get ahead I'll take a look back after tracking the gap +/- if they are gaining and I'll brake and when I see that blue arrow come in a little too fast I'll weave and watch them go right by me while I undercut and power right past them. It's not full proof but it'll work.

It's a lot like having pocket presence if you were a QB you have to feel the rush... lol! Have to get a feel for just weaving punters.

I agree with all this.. I even use the bumber cam just for the mirror. T1 at Fuji is prime example the amount of avoids and cut backs ive done there, always makes you feel happy. Infact i do like T1 Fuji overtakes. Cut backs, round the outside, 3 wide, narrow tight apex defence, Ive done them all tonight.
