A couple of questions regarding this penalty I just received for "Ignoring Yellow Flag".
Of course I ignored it, but I'd like to know what the penalty system wants me to do, instead?
The only thing I can think of is to stop my car. That would be an awful idea, especially with cars close behind me. It would cause more accidents.
I understand the need for yellow flags in real-life racing.
Is there any legitimate reason at all, for this penalty to exist in the game? I can't think of one.

it's the dumbest penalty ever. should we all just stop and wait so the guy who screwed up can keep his position? and the guys up ahead can just keep pushing for the win? ridiculous. no idea why PD even considered this.

I had this the other day; the only thing I can think of without having tried it yet is to lift and go thru. I was still hammer down when I went thru the yellow flags....:dunce:

man you should've been around in the very early days of the game....2017 and early 2018. The Gr.3 Vette dominated the leaderboard on a lot of tracks, and the Gr.4 Vette was up there as well. So much so that they both got nerf'd and stayed that way for a looooong time. The Gr.4 got the worst of it, and we hadn't really heard a peep out of it until one of the recent BoP updates....now it's back in action. Not sure about the current state of the Gr.3, but I know it's remained competitive on SOME combos.
Funny thing is, I've had the game since the general release! I remember being competitive with them at my favorite tracks, but I don't remember them ever being the META anywhere. The FF cars would destroy everything at fast tracks in Gr. 4 (even more so than they do now), then for a while the Aston was the speed demon of Gr. 4. The oval Gr. 3 races were dominated by the AMG GT at Northern Isle, while the Jag was the car to have at BMB. The Corvette Gr. 3 in its oval BoP was so uncompetitive I had to use the Mustang at BMB, which still was noticeably slower than the Jag, but could at least keep me in contention. Speaking of which, the Mustang in its road course BoP was still super quick down the straights before the GT-R became the straight line king.

I got the game around Christmas, so I guess its reign at the top was in the roughly 2 months between the release and me purchasing it.

I think it lasted longer than that, but it's tough to remember that far back what month or even year it was, lol. We had way less tracks back then, but one track that got used often in the actual "Daily" races was Maggiore GP, and almost every Top 10 time was the Gr.3 Vette for awhile. It was also dominant at DT Seaside, and Tokyo Outer East......until it wasn't.

The Tokyo East track is an interesting one. Even though the Gr.3 Vette has always had good top speed, there were other cars that had a bit more.....the Aston (formerly), the GTR, and maybe another one. But when it came to Tokyo East, that long straight with the uphill run at the end....the Vette was faster than the others because it had that extra umph I guess, but if the long straight in question was shorter and/or not elevated, other cars pulled ahead.

Maybe that's why I never noticed it...the only one of those tracks you mentioned that I drove at that time was DT Seaside . I hated Maggiore in the GT cars until I got my G29, and I still hate Tokyo with the exception of South Inner Loop. I did rack up quite a few wins at DT Seaside and Yamagiwa in the Corvettes though. I always ended up fighting Porsches in Gr. 3 and McLarens and Lambos in Gr. 4, and only rarely would I ever be battling another Corvette.

One issue with the BoP is it is trying to achieve parity with two different formats (Race B vs. C/FIA). Adding in fuel and tire wear factors dramatically changes things and what may be Meta in Race B falls apart in Race C. This is why the FF's and/or gas guzzlers dominate without appropriate tire wear, fuel consumption, etc. to balance things out.

When I first got the game in June 2018, I didn’t do much online racing (I sucked badly). But, I did do my own time trials trying to see if one car was better for me than some others. Viper & ‘Vette were always close, but the ‘Vette tended to just edge out the snake. And back then, the Viper seemed sketchier to drive than it does today. But, like I said earlier, I don’t have much trouble winning in the Corvette. It’s the car I win the most in, that’s why I’m always sticking up for it.

Obviously, you know why you got the penalty. But, per your question at the end, no. There is no legitimate reason for that penalty to be in the game. If it makes you feel any better, at least that penalty is consistent with the rest of the screwed up, totally wrong system that PD forces us to use.

It's surprisingly civilised around Spa in the group's I'm matching with, not much deliberate shenanigans, people taking chances with a lot of optimism & no bad intent then giving way when they realise you have the jump on them :)
The F type is holding up well, once you get out of the slipstream it's lacking a bit tho.
Switching to the Aston Martin Vantage, see how that goes

Unfortunately, there is not much you could do but stop. You got the penalty for passing P15 who was in the grass during the yellow. The should have ghosted and/or the system needs to recognize that the car you passed was off course. If you would have stopped, those behind you would have passed you and picked up the penalty or crash into you (probably giving you a penalty anyway).

Don’t get me wrong....that was a no win situation. You just have to chalk it up to a poor penalty system....

I’ve noticed this a few times with cars going off course and are not being ghosted till very late, by which time they’re back on course and have caused another accident. Brings back bad memories of Suzuka for me....

A bit disappointed with this weeks races. Spa in Gr.4 is great, but only 3 laps? And no tire or fuel use? I’d much rather 10 laps of Spa than Autopolis in a road car, least of all the GT86 :banghead:

I've been waiting literally years for one of the 'Vettes to be the META for a race, and now that it finally (sorta) is...I'm faster in the Jag...:(
I finally managed to find more time in the Corvette! I went almost 0.7s faster than my previous fastest time in the 'Vette, and almost 0.4s faster than my fastest time in the Jag.

Tough but fun racing at Spa tonight. 3 races, started10th, 11th and 9th. SR 99 and DR S, A+and A. One race had 27's and 28's to P14 and I was one of two DR-A's in the top 10, with S and A+ filling the rest. My driving was off...couldn't seem to hit my lines consistantly, but I made some passes, and got passed, and had fun with some close, clean racing. Didn't finish with any gains in position, but only lost 1 spot in one race. DR actually went up almost 500 points...don't know how. Hope the good racing continues!

Somehow found 7 tenthsbin the second sector with the gtr. Zero idea where. 28.9, that's all I have in me.

Tried the aston, what a beast, sounds like a race car. Got down to a 29.4 but that's it, I cannot brake slide into a corner as stable as I can with the gtr.

Now, sr is precarious, just above a C so gotta doddle around to be safe ot reset coming.

I'm struggling with the vette, there's a low 29 in it for me if I hit the perfect lap but I am always on a cliff at spa, an error is always around the corner. Will try the gtr for qualy again.

I went back at Qualy with the 'Vette, found another 1.5s off my first distracted QT. I got it down to 2:28.7xx atm...There's more in her I know it.

Decided to do my first Daily Race in months. Went for Spa Gr.4 with the Viper. Started P3, finished P2. I'd be rich if I had bet on the race starting with me in the middle of the chicane. Pretty much comes down to starting in the top 2 or you have zero chance of winning without them making a mistake.

I have not been racing on wheels today, but any clue where I have been tonight?

I did get a penalty for landing at the finish, or rather black screen after the plane tipped over on its nose.
Landing on the straight worked, however the finish is not flat
Have to see if you can find Road Atlanta and land on the notorious straight there. Thanks to the Whittington Brothers!

bruh how is someone gonna tell me after they punted me that i slowed down too much when i had fastest lap :confused::confused: then the other guy that went off track and rejoined into tboning me is gonna say that i knew he was there and I didnt leave space. he went off at spa final chicane off radar how tf am i supposed to leave space... literally 0 IQ out here right now.

Just like Suzuka last week.

Tried 3 cars... but my best quali lap so far @ Spa is in the F-Type, There's defo a few more tenths up for grabs if I can stay faster through the middle section, I'm gonna try some other cars later today! Spa is such a wicked flowing track 👍 Those low 2'26's are stupid fast

Have fun GT racers!

im feeling a reset coming on

edit: yup. i just got reset for a bunch of stupid penalties including another chicane rejoin t bone that gave me 4 seconds and someone said enjoy the D/E rated drivers.. um I will because they drive better than you clowns and i will probably start on pole.

I absolutely can't wait to fly on it... I knew I should have ordered my yoke and pedals and radio stack in the spring... none left to buy at the moment!

I just can't seem to find that last 1/10 in performance (one second or more in time) at Spa in the Gr4... put in a decent QT but can't touch those 28's... not sure where I'm missing it.

I don't know why PD doesn't just program the game to ghost any car that goes out of bounds, and keep them ghosted until they're at 80% of the average speed at that point on the track so this type of accident doesn't happen.:dunce:

I don't know how the Vette is so popular, it has good turn in but the GTR eats it alive on exits. Same with the Viper. Will give the Shaguar another go tonight for variety but i am not beating my 28.9, that was a solid lap, i am tapped out for speed.

I love spa but find it a very tricky place to pass as the passing areas are of high instability. As mentioned before, it is also a ragged edge track for me, I have to be absolutely ON IT to keep up with peers.

SO MANY of my SR downs are from this sort of thing... including the only recent blemish on my SR... guy goes off, then climbs back onto the track while I am on the limit and I have nowhere to go, or else have to tank my race by coming to a halt in a turn to avoid his mistake... I would not dislike this idea. I actually got a 1 sec penalty and the SR down for it at Spa, where I had nothing to do with the original off, and broadsided the guy because he came back onto the surface on the exit curb. What can you do?!

Same, Neville. Same. Any mistake is amplified x10 over the long power straights, and I just can't seem to get my cornering speeds up enough to carry the momentum on exit, to where the speed gain results in that blue number going down. And my La Source approach must be all wrong because from time to time I can get 0.3 - 0.4 sec up on a flyer, but I'll be darned if I know what I did to repeat it again. That can translate into 0.6-0.75 sec by the end of Kemmel... I just haven't been able to hit on it in the Gr4 this week. I've been plenty fast on a wet track there, but with gobs of grip in underpowered Gr4 cars... just lacking that ultimate pace. I'm well within my target time, but my peers all seem to be getting even more pace out of the cars, and posting some really good 80-90 K' score type laps in this week's Race B...

I like Spa, but there’s 3-4 turns I’m pretty akward with and inconsistent.
I don’t always hit 28.3 but when I do it’s in the GTR. It’s got plenty of power, and stability, good cockpit, nice mirrors.
Last night starting at sr1 I did 2 A races, both from pole and got assaulted turn1 but covered off the inside and escaped to crb wins.
I did one race C for crb, then entered up in B, this was no qual. No idea how I got the crb it was a miracle.
I decided to finish off with another C (no qual) all was well until final lap I was in 4th looking to take 3rd at that fast downhill right that feeds into the last part of the track. My opponent ahead went sideways coming past apex and I hit the entry really well and was on throttle looking to get alongside but my front bumper kissed his rear for an sr down.
White B AAARGH I’m such an idiot.
Anyways sitting 56 as we speak on that account after five races.
I think it’s good that the sr comes back more slowly, now.
I took quite a bit of contact overall from outta control/moronic drivers but got crb except that last one with sr down.
Picking your line early and holding it seems. To help prevent sr down.
I really like the GTR. I haven’t even driven the vette or viper. (I drove the vette before it was cool lol)

I've found the Jag also beats the Corvette on acceleration, but suffers slightly from lack of rotation. The Corvette can make up a couple tenths on the Jag at Pouhon alone.

For La Source, I've found that taking a "shallow" exit helps a lot there. Brake a bit early to get your right side tires on the green stuff on the inside curb, then turn the car until you can point it at a straight line towards the outside curb, straighten the wheels, accelerate, then add a little steering as necessary as you approach the outside curbing.

Missing the apex or carrying too much speed and having to take a wide line on the exit means my ghost leaves me in the dust and it's not worth even trying to make up time elsewhere at that point.
