Been trying to chip away at my QT for race C. Something about this track & my driving style don't get along. Tried all of my old stalwarts (Viper, Corvette, even Mustang & WRX). Nothing cuts serious time out of those top split times. Best lap I've set so far is a 47.286. :boggled: And that was in the survey Supra. I only have that car on one account.
I dont know why but it is a very particular track with early brake and turn in being super important, as well as maximizing what happens off throttle so that when you do gas it you get the full benefit. Lots of blind turns that really take some learning to find the right line and knowing when to go for it as it seems soooooo easy to be just a hair too early or late and losing heaps of time

Ain't that the truth. Worst corner for me by far is the nasty hairpin before the backstretch. But, out of all of the cars I've tried, the Toyotas are surprising me. I ran one race in the Supra. I bumped into someone in a corner as they oversteered into the grass. Caused me to spin out & lose precious race time & positions. But once on the medium tires, that thing feels so much better. Passed a few FWD cars who went in one lap earlier who were having trouble on their worn tires.

Got in a couple of A races tonight. First one I thought I was just running Q laps, then the race started. No TC off the line since I didn't know I entered, and hadn't realized it was a grid start. Started okay, but swerved to avoid a car coming out of the dirt after T4 and got sideways and went off. Made my way back to maybe 7th. Sturk was no Q and finished 4th...never saw him go by since I was looking at the radar trying not to get hit. I think I'll use this race to get back some DR on my main since I dropped back to B with my pitiful FIA races. Hopefully I'll get back to A soon, and get some fast rooms to have some good racing. Managed a 5:29 time with this flag to flag, but it was like running hot laps after a 2 second plus lead on L1.

Did some Q laps on B when I got home from work, managed to better my time by 2 sec with the 650s, I'm definitely getting the hang of these MR's now but still on TCS 1 really happy with the progress, only totaled it once in the chicane of death out of 24 laps.

For that hairpin, go very deep under braking to get the latest apex possible, you'll initially feel like you're going to run off the track. This gets you on the throttle really early. The other corner I've noticed people get wrong a lot is the tight left hander (turn 22?) before the last long straight.

I really struggle onto and off the bridge. I feel like I could do a low 42 qualy if I got those right.

Race C is such a blast!

My first QT was in the RCZ, but didn’t like it for the race and have been running the Vette. Smoked my first QT and there’s another half second in it if I could just keep it together.

I’ve had some of the best battles I’ve ever had in this race. Consecutive laps following close and wheel to wheel with plenty of position changes.

I can challenge the FFs on Mediums, but I lose so much on Hards. I tried several pit strategies and none seem to give me an edge. I guess that just leaves the “Go Faster!” strategy. Yep, James Vowles’ got nothing on me!

Good clean racing for the most part, too, with the exception of that guy I punted when he came out of the pits and crossed the white line immediately and I didn’t react quick enough. Also probably gave the field a good laugh when I caught the jagged edge of the barrier getting on the bridge while watching my radar too closely and came to a very hard stop. The recovery drive was a good time, though, so I really haven’t had a bad time.

More combos like this, please. Good luck out there.

Used the 350Z in Race A. I was way quicker than the FuguZ over the lap. Set FL. It's just a tad slower on the back straight. Braking, corner entry and mid-corner speed: yum yum yum

I'll try the GT-R with my normal account, in A/S. Should be interesting with some of the no stop players.

Just realised. It's a good week for Nissan lovers.

It's one of those tracks where I have to spend the whole lap looking at the map to try and work out where I am!

Could just be my driving style, or inability. But as a controller user, greatest challenge is consistency from one lap to the next when pushing for Q times. I know there are aliens out there who are lighting on the controller, and people slower using a wheel. So no excuses from me.

The shorter tracks tend to mask this, as my lap time is usually a tenth or two off my optimal lap time (I know we never really have a perfect lap).

But with Race C, noticing the inconsistency a lot more. Current Q time is a 3:42.6... but optimal time is a 3:41.7 (186 in EMEA for now).

Corners where I've noticed the greatest time variation are the hairpin on to the back straight, the left hander coming off the bridge and then the tight left hander coming on to the other straight.

I saw your time on my friends list and was very impressed!
But now I take comfort in being slow but consistent :D

No-stop seems to be the optimal strategy. I'm running my Corvette as usual, feels pretty good and grip only starts to go off a bit mid-lap 4. Was running in 2nd, could have gotten 3rd but binned it on the blind right-hander a bit after the bridge. Finished 10th:banghead:

One go at St. Croix so far. On lap 1 a Polish guy in an M4 shoved me out the way at the left hander before the straight. I gave him the customary That was some clean driving! in the post race chat, he responded with "tykurwo." I put this into google translate and got the word "calabash," which is actually a word and oh, look what it means: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calabash#Enema_equipment

Other bonus: a Swedish guy in an RCZ trying to kill me twice on the straight the lap after - first trying to box me in behind a guy ahead who was unghosting after a penalty, then trying to run me into the wall through the corner at the end. Why do people at low SR levels like this even bother?

This makes me happy I haven't raced in the RCZ at all

I am not one to go on about this too much but man the penalty system is just woeful at Seaside. I seem to get blamed every time, yesterday twice a car spun in front of me and i barely touched them (I had nowhere to go as they spun) and i cop 3 second penalties ... like really??? It is particularly bad when folks hit me in the side trying to "pass" me, i get the penalty, like what?

Anyways, shout out to the folks I passed in this video, the red mustang, the green aston and the grey Merc all picked a line and stuck to it. Bravo to them as I was hustling. Not sure why I fell off the road on lap 1, weird, I just ran out of grip?

trying the outside pass at this corner is pure suicide 1:33

Had a race in Dragontrail and a couple on Tsukuba.
Got 8th place on a race that qualified for 14th. Not bad.
First race of Tsukuba, blasted the first turn but ended 6th place.
Second race, I composed myself. Started 5th place and gained one position.
Two drivers got into a pile-up as soon as the race started.

You know what.
I finally understand.
Low DRs are not meant to compete, but to slowly gain your SR. Kinda like grind it till you get to A. Meanwhile you get track experience.
Then in A level races, you can then compete as drivers are cleaner and more aware.

This morning I did a bit of Q grinding on the B race main acct. The RS01 ended up 38.1.
I seem to always lose time in the first sector no matter what, from .3-.6.
I doubt I will ever truly dial it in considering since getting the game I’ve probably driven it 25000 times by now.
I tried c qual for half a lap in my m4, I love the scenery. Seems like a tough course though, almost a 4 minute lap?!
Haven’t tried Tsukuba yet.
Goin in for a b or 3 from the back...

I am not quite sure I understand. How are we to gain DR/SR without competing?

I have raced a few races, gained what I consider adequate track experience to race, and believe (based on my personal racing moral compass and SR Rating history) that I deserve to compete online.

I will say that my DR is not good but I am a slower racer (usually 8-10 seconds off the top 10) who's finishes are often not top 10. I generally do run with positive SR gains though.

I think my poor DR rating is because I am slower and is also exasperated by the flawed matching system. Why would a system match me in a lobby where we are all the same SR but qualification times are usually way off (at times different DR ratings)?

I think this line of discussion is valid, I understand why you better drivers get frustrated but I think blaming lower rated drivers is not exactly the proper response. Some of those lower DRs are reset better drivers gaming the system, getting the wins and trying to rebuild their DR. Others probably just suck like me but will race you clean. Please don't throw us in the same bucket as the poor racers - I can insure you that I will race you clean and to the best of my ability. If I do screw you, look for the apology in the after race chat - it will be there.

Enjoy your racing!

You can compete but not quite in DR groups because you will lose more than win.
Also, I am not a top racer, actually far from it.
But I have understood that trying to compete with low DR drivers is SR suicide.
It's easy to spot them and you have to pretty much stay at a considerable distance away from them.
Also you have to place in the top 5th place, otherwise, don't bother to compete especially when you only have to 4-5 laps.

Ok I think we are agreeing but let me say this and get your agreement maybe?

DR D should not compete with DR S through B. DR C should not compete with DR S or A racers. Allowance of a racer to race in Daily races should be restricted to their DR +/- 1 DR rating?

I agree 100% with this. I (as a DR D) should not be competing with DR S, A or B drivers. They are just better and I probably do get in their way.

Hopefully there will be a license system in place in GT7 which will prevent lower rated drivers from competing with the upper rated drivers. This will prevent lower driver carnage but won't stop nasty driving.

Are we on the same page? Partially at least?

Absolutely.
It is unfair when you are paired up in a lobby full of DR As when you are a DR D.
The matchmaking system is screwed up.
But that is tied up to the penalty system which is also screwed up.
