We already have a widely accepted "Chicane of Death" at Tokyo (South outer?). On number 4) I counter with "Chicane of Delight" and we can still use CoD for short.

I avoid Tokyo layouts, so I don't know what any of them are called. But Chicane of Death got coined by @F4H Super GT, when I started watching videos, so it's always been called that by me.

Chicane of Death is widely accepted as the chicane at DTS. Has been called so for well over a year.
There's also the 3 brothers at DTG.
The chicane in DTS II is also widely accepted as the Chicane of inconvenience.

And have you tested this? I don't know as the vid I watched said there was no advantage to weak and since I have enough trouble controlling stuff I just left it and forget about it.
I'm not changing, but it would be interesting to know if people can actually benefit from this

There is some benefit. I had some trouble getting some cars to rotate when entering corners. I switched to weak, learned how to trailbrake, & have had cars rotating better ever since. Like every other skill you learn, it may take time. But when you get it, it's a breakthrough.

Run a couple races so far -- they seem to have gotten more cars on the straight for when the lights drop -- at least 4, maybe 5, not sure.

The race is kind of boring though if you are matched up with like-speed folks, unless you're willing to divebomb to pass. I'm not (on my main, anyways, lol), so I spent 10 laps single file for both races pretty much. The dirty air kills your grip when you get within a half second, and it allows the car in front to build the gap up a bit, from what I've seen.

Still, since my time is pretty decent, I'll try to farm some DR this week. I'd love to hit the 50k mark for the first time. 3500 DR to go, at the moment.



No fuel issues. Melt icebergs at the beginning.

The TS050 has an advantage because it charges the battery more efficiently, so you have hybrid boost for more of the track. It also handles much better than the Gr C cars in Sector 2.

While lap times matter, I would give up a bit of handling / corner speed for the high speed acceleration / top speed of group C cars (and they're fun) IF they can compete. Like you said, passing is an issue. Often I drive a "slower" car because it has a trait (or traits) that make it easier to work traffic. The 'Yota has great low end acceleration, but if you can keep up enough to pass them mid-straight, and get into the corner first, they have to slow to your corner speed. Hes to be the right track, though. I won't know if Spa could work until I try it. Probably not, with all the mid and high speed corners.
 
Yesterday was the worst day of gt sports online racing for me. All of the grids i'm in, people tried to take me out coz they knew no way they could pass me clean. It was like a apocalyptic wasteland, Mad Max. I tried to stay calm and race but eventually i blasted! I did things i regret. No racing, just road rage, ruined my sr and dr.
This game should be fun right! Well this ain't fun! Mentally exhausting. I have never seen this indignity and injustice in any other platform. Even in a war people have some ethics! Evil people know they can get away with it. So do their thing. PD does nothing! We pay for this bs!
I'm going to take a break for a while. I'm too old for this ****! Dignity and justice are the most important things in my life!

Not a bad start to the week.
Yeah race A is fun but not for the faint of heart. Took me a while to get my braking right. Too much and the car wants to head towards Tokyo. Started 9th and made up 2 positions by turn 5. The car ahead went wide at turn 6 and came on in front of me. There was space for me to go up his left hand side which I did. However the car behind went to barge through at the hairpin. I managed (just) to stay on the track. He got a penalty and I was DFL 1.2 off the pack. Managed to catch up as there was some battling. The Slovenian ahead was jumping around on 1 bar. I nervously passed him and pulled away. That's where I stayed until the last lap where someone else ended up in the gravel at the last hairpin and I passed them for 10th.

Lago Maggiore. A track I really enjoy racing on. However I am just slow here compared to others. (I.e. when people can do sub 2 mins on the reverse I am only able to do 2.05's.) I managed to get my time down and surprisingly started 7th in the Megane. Managed to follow a TT through the melee up to 4th. I easily passed a Hurracan (God it's slow). I had a good little fight for 3rd but he managed to hold it around the outside through the first of the righthanders at the end of the lap. I wasn't on my line and lost a bit of momentum and dropped back a few seconds allowing him a run at 2nd. It was a nervous last lap as the Hurracan caught me but decided to keep turning left through the chicane and binned it. With a comfortable gap back to 5th I brought it home 4th.

Spa. After reading some tips I moved the BB back on my R18 for harvesting. Only had time to do a lap and a half. (Damn you Raidillon penalty causing me to restart.)
Made it to the final chicane 1.2 seconds up on my 2nd lap only for matching to complete. :( Still started 13th. (The 1.2 seconds would only have put me 10th) I knew I was going to be on the wrong side of the chicane so popped my TCS to 1 to compensate the cold tyres. Well it was a barge through the 2nd apex and I lost a couple of places on exit. Made on at La Source as someone ran wide, but lost one as someone else barged through. But they got 3 seconds for that so, win! One of the places I lost was to someone trying the Citroen. Bold choice. Caught it on the straight but he had the high ground through Les Combes so sat in behind. Got a better run through Malmedy but couldn't make it stick into Rivage. Then the car decided not to turn correctly at Ickx. Managed to pass him eventually and a few others who went off. However the car wasn't feeling right. I haven't really driven outside of BB0 and my qualifying on 2 to the rear felt fine. However in the race the brakes were too inconsistent. Sometimes they worked fine, others it felt like I was using sponge cake. (Defiantly better to be eaten than used as brakes) After about 4 or 5 laps I decided to whack it back to 0. The car came back alive and was the one I had always known. I caught up with a Pug who got a slow exit from La Source. I got a run on him but he was able to keep it alongside down the hill. O.k. I've seen Webber pull off this move on Alonso, easy. I gave space up the hill but my lack of talent compared to Mark showed and I started to drift wide. I came off the gas and hoped I could make it through slow enough not to get a penalty. Nope 0.5 was my prize. Served it and I was now in 11th. However on lap 8 someone ahead pitted. I used their cold tyres to my advantage as they outbroke themselves at Les Combes. (Hasn't their pit crew heard of tyre warmers?) I passed them and pulled a 4 second gap on them as they struggled. They Pug ahead was also 4 seconds ahead of me. The next two laps was a case of the guy behind catching back up and myself slowly catching him ahead as he seemed to be struggling with his tyres. I ended up 1.2 off the guy ahead and defending from the guy behind. I placed myself in the middle of the track narrowing their angle into the final corner. They couldn't quite make it work but did manage to get alongside coming out of the corner. I got the better exit (Thanks shortshift to 2nd) and crossed the line 10th. If they guy hadn't pitted I'd have been 11th. If I hadn't lost time to my handling issues at the start I'd have been 9th. Ah well I know for next time and hopefully I can set a better lap for qualy.
 
What makes the R18 faster in Qually? The hybrid boost runs out before you even get out of T1? Is it just a faster overall car, even without the boost, over one lap than the TS050? And if that’s the case, why isn’t it better in the race if the boost doesn’t matter?

I just watched Tigney and he's saying use the TS050 cos you probably won't manage the battery in the Audi, but saying use the Audi for quali. So I'm like you can't see the point. He's even pointing out other players getting much faster times in the Audi. So they are managing the battery? Lucky I'm not a robot cos I'd be running around going "does not compute" as my head explodes.

He’s saying non aliens can’t manage the battery to make it work for 10 laps
The Audi is good for 1 lap quali but not a 10 lap race.

The audi has a faster pace provided you can manage enough trailbraking for the battery.
But it depletes super fast, making it quite annoying to use imo.

I even prefer the TS030 to the R18 battery wise, although that one can't compete with the last Gen lmp1

Anyway, R18, trailbrake a lot, use less than 50% (or was it 25%) throttle, until you're set straight.
I also feel that the audi is the most unstable of the 3 morn ones

The TS050, point, and squirt. Battery for daaaayyys.

I’m still confused, even after watching @Tidgney ’s video. Do you have to manage the R18’s Battery even in Qually too, or just run it flat out in Qually?
 
I didn't test it out today, but from a 1h special event I partake into, the audi had juice for 2-3 laps if not mistaken, this driving without regard for batteries. @Pigems

Thinking back to the last FIA race with this combo, the Audi has JUUUUUUUST enough boost to be quick over 1 lap, but it runs out of steam by the end of the lap, and for subsequent laps it can't recharge its batteries enough to keep the Toyota at bay. For one lap, however, it's got more powerful boost than the Toyota.

Were you slower than with the Toyota though? I think it's pretty normal to completely drain it out of T1 anyway. Should still have enough grunt to out-accelerate the Toyota. I think the Audi's engine has slightly more hp, or maybe it has slicker aero. Either way it hits a higher top speed at Spa than the Toyota. The TS050 eats the Audi's lunch on acceleration though after a couple laps.
 
I was racing the Toyota in race C and on my way to a respectable 6th after a disappointing 4 second penalty trying to get by someone that went off after campus and then wildly re-entered the track at Stavelot and hit me in the side. But my fault says the penalty system. Anyway, that wasn’t the crazy part.

Final lap and I come out of Blanchimont at speed with .9 on the LM55 behind me. First time seeing one of those. That thing closed on me in a blink of an eye. They didn’t dive on me, they caught me by the braking zone. What sorcery is this, Mazda?!?

I did one race today. The top 10 QT roughly lined up as four Audis, then four TS050s and two LM55s mixed in. The finish was similar - the four Audi's finished ahead of the four TS050s... and then there was me in an Audi... and let's just say I don't count for this tabulation :dunce:.

You will run out but for one lap like people are saying it’s faster. In the Toyota my time in qualifying was 1.59.3.. in Audi 1.58.4... I only have BB at + 2/3
 
Welp, race B, group 4, as usual, the TT Cup is in full swing. Not sure how but the organizers have allowed other cars to participate as well. Must be some kinda sick joke.

3 races today. Did A twice. Stared/finished 2nd in both. Really good races.

Also tried B in the TT. Started/finished 7th. Was kind of boring.

Race A & C for the rest of the week I think.

I think that's by design, the Audi tries to discharge the whole battery every time you accelerate. Basically, the Audi is faster because any green bar that the Toyota crosses the line with at the end of the lap is just wasted energy, and the Audi deploys it instead of saving.

Medium tires make the FFs even stronger than they usually are with no tire wear, because Gran Turismo Sport's handling model is not realistic enough to punish a 65% front weight distribution correctly.
 
On the R18's hybrid, you can save it by braking lightly at full throttle before the braking zone, as well as mid-corner if you're stuck in the dirty air of someone slower. You need to have some battery for it to recharge this way however, if it's already empty you'll need to wait until the next major braking zone and hope you don't deploy it all on the exit. It's a pain for sure, I still have trouble doing it myself, but it's either that or be 1 second off the pace by using the TS050 / 908 :indiff:

Great lap but 2 thing i cannot fathom.

a) The speed you carry through the T1 and 2 complex, how the heck?

b) The downhill left hander into the esses, you hold 5th gear and carry ENORMUS speed, how???? i have to tap the brake to get her to turn in but you don't even change down so how do you rotate the car so easily and still not have it wash wide? I don't get how you're doing it.

a) +2 BB helped the car rotate a bit before the first chicane so I could take a straighter line through it. For the second part, the inside kerb makes the car turn sharper on the exit, if done right it feels like it's on rails.

b) You need to start turning in and then lift the throttle. Lifting will give you extra rotation into the corner because it transfers more weight towards the front. You also have to hit the inside kerb right, otherwise you'll understeer off anyway.

Oh and I cannot do this consistently by any stretch of the imagination. Kerbs are super important for turning around this track; occasionally I would hit one just right and gain half a tenth, but it would be extremely difficult to replicate again because it's so precise. I do prefer that over BS like the Tokyo South Outer chicane though :p
