Ahem.

I entered the zone. I did not come out until restoring my alt to its previous a plus glory...
C race has been kind to me. :::tear:::

My time at 27.5 was just barely enough to stay clear of trouble. I stuck to my formula I ran 10-12 laps medium. I was able to keep track position as much as possible. I picked up a win.
It was only due to faster folks taking each other out but I’ll take it!
That’s my strategy, steady as she goes...
Cheers

I want to tell you about a race but I need to first tell you about my week. Dragon Trail Seaside with Group 2 cars has been my week of despair. I got clobbered and beaten... repeatedly.
  • My QT was just OK so I mostly started from the back.
  • I had no consistency.
  • There were offs everywhere.
  • I had several visits to the wall at "@NevilleNobody CoD (tm)".
  • There were a string of races where I was competing for DFL. Only the race quiters saved me from last.
  • I experimented by removing TCS... bad to worse, say no more.
  • My race pace was poor and in particular my first lap was poor.
  • I could barely touch race lap times of 1:30. There was never a 1:29!
  • My DR tanked by more than 6k... by Thursday!
  • I got kicked out of the DR.A lobbies but not for bad sportsmanship. I did it the old fashioned way - I just sucked!

I took a mini break and started reading this board. I posted race data for next weeks races because that was more fun than racing :grumpy:. I heeded that advice:
  • Practiced earlier braking and faster/smoother exit from Larini-2. Thank you @D_Dragline .
  • Stuck with TCS=2 in the races. Thank you @Groundfish .
  • Earned a whole new level of respect for CoD. Thank you @NevilleNobody.
  • Cleaned the lint from my belly button - I thought of that one all by myself.
  • Practiced lines for the final turn. Discussed by several.
  • Rehearsed pit exit to establish a brake point for that case.
I was able to lay down a new fast QT of 1:28.0 and it was not a lucky lap. I am now able to string together multiple consecutive 1:28 laps in QT.

Come Saturday I had some middling success in mixed A/B lobbies and I was mostly consistent. There are small mistakes but no big ones. My finishes are mostly mid to lower mid pack and no DFLs but ultimately I was demoted to lower splits.

Now for the race! I was placed in a pure DR.B/SR.S lobby... but, but, but ... I am on pole! It is a decently competitive group, there were previously reset A-racers and most importantly there are folks that have been beating me this week. So it was not a pushover group.
  • Start from Pole: Remember, they will murder you if you don't get through this. Thanks @ZiggyS80. I have not practiced from the front so I used my rehearsed pit-exit brake point. P2 is fast but it worked and I was clear at the first chicane.
  • Lap 1: P2 and P3 kissed at the famed Larini-2 right hander and P2 is sent back a few places. I was ahead 1 full second.
  • Lap 2: I broke 1:30 in a race, a 1.29.9, and it could not have come at a better time.
  • Mid laps: Appears to be a little more fighting for P2. I can relax a bit as I have a 5 second lead. Oh-oh! Fast P2 has returned to P2 and he is gaining. Then, I got a visit from the demons. This never goes well. First up was self-doubt-demon. I know him well. "You are going to bin it Little Guppy, you always do, why should this race be any different, fast-P2 is going to murder you". OK, enough of the murder talk and yes P2 was gaining. I concentrated and did good laps. Self-doubt-demon got bored and left. See 'ya.
  • Final laps: Now, I got a visit from racer-demon. I am not so familiar with him. He talks quickly : "Go faster, don't pit, don't lift, murder them!" Yes, there was more murder talk. Truth-be-told, racer-demon isn't driving with all four wheels but he had the initial idea. We crafted a plan to demoralize our opponents - yes I engaged with racer-demon - we talked and agreed to take murder off the table. We were on mediums and were going to stay out longer than anyone else even if we lost time. Let them see an insurmountable delta and know that winning is out reach and they need to settle for a P2. I stayed out until lap 10 as P2 pitted on lap 9 and I had a 13 second delta to a new P2. I am not sure about racer-demon but I like him more than self-doubt-demon.
  • Final lap: Fast-P2 was back and was gaining but would need a half dozen laps to catch me and there was only one lap left.
I won by 9 seconds and it was my best race time of the week 19m55s, by far. Moreover, it was my first win in a competitive Gr 2 race (or Gr 1 or Gr 3 that I can recall) as almost all of my wins are Group 4 based. That win outweighed everything else from the week of despair.

Yesterday was both fun & mentally testing my nerves. Lots of mistakes by me & other drivers. Multiple trips into the walls at the CoD. Numerous trips to the beach. Tons of headlight flashes. Countless blocks thrown. And a whole host of anger at the Seaside. And yet, after this race, I said my day was done. Also, the race is uploaded in game. Search tags: seaside, NoStopN, GTR.

Good morning friends,

So far today I have raced three times. In the first race I was involved in a tight 3 car battle for second but then outta nowhere a Canadian sees fit to brake check me turn one handing me a one second pen which ended up putting me two seconds back from him and I never recovered.
I was no longer in the zone. Second race I went for a spectacular late brake at the bottom of the hill right turn (we need to name it..) lap one in which mid move I realized I was going to overshoot and I was inside 1st and second. I went full lock right turn full brake and pulled off. Luckily didn’t take anyone out.
Since I was already driving poorly and I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes I decided to go alfresco (turn off tcs)
After a lap or two I got spun by the exit curb of turn two, then of course I’m backwards in the grass no reset. I’ve seen that curb bite many players and without tcs it but me too.
As a shining example of A plus skills on my alt I had so far divebombed the leaders lap one, then pushed too hard to recover and spun myself out...Furyher in chat in the first race the guy who did it said I was dirty then added an abbreviation I’m not familiar with capital a then capital f.
I don’t know what that means but im pretty sure that player strongly dislikes me...

Great to see others successes above (nice work @NoStopN and @Little_Guppy great wins!) as I myself have been busy making a fool of myself :)

Cheers

Well the first game today was great, race C, Q11 came 6th and it was so clean it was unbelievable. People pulling over on diff strategy, giving places back when mistakes happened and only 4 drivers had red S at the end, chat was all well done, nice race, will you marry me type crap.
Second race was the total opposite over half in the red, including myself admittedly after the first time the guy brakes half a mile early I should have known better, was shoved off 3 times and had to fight 2 players (and they were both at least a little dirty) who were obviously running 2-3 secs a lap slower and on a diff strategy, but rather than let me through and going faster they dive bomb slowing us both down. Luckily this didn't spoil my race as I'd done a bit of practice and hadn't noticed I was still on meds, so I was going to come last whatever happened.

Ha. Improved my q time to 27.2 on c race.
Entered up, A plus Brazilian on grid in front of me decides he’s gonna choose Xanavi and block everyone behind from the get go, thus ruining all our races.
What a collosal jerk. My take is he was working with the pole sitter to grind dr.
He was swerve blocking. Gee I’m glad I improved my time only to immediately matchup with a jerk like that.
Ah A plus dailies...
Sometimes there’s just nothing you can do except take crap. I didn’t of course.
The anger sharks circled in my head and I put him down.
Big five second penalty though.
I respect clean hard defense but there’s a point where a guys just being a prick and it’s not racing...

Here's me "Forcing another car off the track", apparently.
When this stuff happens to you, don't allow it to stress you out. Just laugh, because it happens to everybody, and they all know it's nonsense.

For what it's worth, if I had slammed on the brakes, instead of just lifting off the throttle, I would have slid into him harder.
I have an idea. How about if ghosting is automatically triggered whenever all four tires lose traction. 💡

Edit: Also, my car went off the track first. Idiot programmers.

In a A+,A lobby started p4, up to p3, chased the fighting couple for 5 laps, last turn p2 hits the wall at apex then slams himself to the wall at exit and bounces off to me. I spin and get a 4sc penalty! Finished 11th! Can't believe this is real!!!
I guess this is the prize for being ultra clean! I could make some semi dirty moves through the race but did not.

This week, I've been using Daily B time trials as a way to evaluate possible new options for the 2021 Manufacturers Season. Cars sampled included the WRX, RC F, F-Type, Vantage and Audi R8; the fastest being the WRX with a 1:45.527. I felt more comfortable pushing the R8, however, so entered that into a 20:10 EMEA lobby. The Scooby's FP time put me 10th in a mostly DR A/B field.

A processional, but tidy run. Only major issue I had was on the end of Lap 1, where I got checked up by a German R8 losing it at Catalunya curve allowing a fellow British R8 to pass down the start-finish straight. The Lexus behind us made a very late lunge under braking into Turn 1 so that was another position sacrificed. That being said, the car felt great and I was able to build up a decent gap ahead of the South African R8 in 12th. There was another British R8 who got 'sent to the shadow realm' on Lap 3; I didn't notice he was in trouble until he respawned in the middle of the straight between Campsa and La Ciaxa, but it appeared from looking at my onboard that whatever happened left him at the old Nissan chicane. Finished 9th when the first Briton picked up a penalty of some kind coming out of the final chicane (possibly for cutting the apex a little too much).

Got given door number '1' so lost at least another 500 DR doing this on top of the 3,500+ lost in recent FIA rounds. However, the race fulfilled my objectives of not only getting a good run in the R8 (which I always tend to get on well with in Dailies and GTP community events anyway), but also comparing it to how the 2015-spec LMS model feels in Assetto Corsa Competizione which I picked up on Friday evening. Must say that of all the GT3 cars from vanilla ACC, the LMS is my favourite out of the ones I've driven so far - it's a joy to chuck around with the right pad settings even if I'm not at the stage where I can race without traction control or Steer Assist enabled. In GT Sport, I've had plenty of great runs in the R8 in Dailies and GTP community events, plus a 4th place in the TT during Nations last year, so I'm hopeful that a switch to Audi might work out well in Manufacturers should I decide to take that path.

Its very hard to describe sections of fantasy tracks to anyone in this game, Naming or numbering would help. Besides from the banked hairpin at Maggiore or the Chicane of Death theres not too many corners that people could easily describe. Maybe the esses at Yamagiwa as well.

It seems like this week we have named 2 new sections of this track.

OK, I did a little research on the Hybrid cars for Gr1/Spa-C-Race as they seem to be the choice, specifically the Audi R18 '16.

First off, I was able to get a faster time in the non-hybrid Mazda LM55. That means one of two things - either I am second coming of Jesus or I have not figured out how to drive the hybrid. We will go with the latter.

Apparently, the non-hybrids have about 650 HP and the hybrids have 500 regular HP for the rear wheels + 500 HP from the battery for the front wheels. The battery juice lasts for 5 seconds so use it well. It will be dispensed and harvested automatically. There is no button to use but there is a green bar on the Heads Up Display.

Here are my notes and findings:
  1. As @RacingGrandpa noted it is important to set the Brake Bias to the rear. There is a YouTube video here: . It will more efficiently harvest (recharge).
  2. Next, the Audi spins its tires in second gear under normal acceleration. That is bad. It means that the hybrid juice is being used but to no good effect. I don't know how to manage that but I suspect that you need to more slowly lean into acceleration to get the full value of the 1000 HP but it will be delayed a bit.
  3. I read a third comment to accelerate and brake gently with no other commentary. We are in a race right? That may help add and maximize juice but the end goal is to finish soonest. In effect, number 1 above represents gentler braking and number 2 above, avoiding wheel spin, represents gentler acceleration. There is a special case for qualifying... run your hot lap and on the following lap concentrate to recharge your battery to the max for the next lap. Maybe experiment with slower braking or gentler acceleration.
  4. I have noted that some harvesting also happens on medium speed corners when not on full throttle. That makes sense. The Toyota Prius does that too.
  5. Lifting and coasting is not a "thing" in the game. Don't use it. Real life LMP1 drivers need to do it because they have per lap fuel limitations and must use the fuel efficiently. It will not help you manage your hybrid power.

I do not have all the facts. Please speak up if you have a contrary experience.

Final standings for race C. Had some hopes for a WR, until the top guys who put effort in blew it out of the water :O Bit annoyed because P2 and P4 is the same person so technically my lap is 4th fastest (.001 too :irked:), but oh well, if you told me a week ago that this would happen on a Gr.2 combo I would've laughed at you

Here's the lap  Used the DS4 as I tend to on high downforce combos.

I admire your dedication and research to this kind of stuff mate, cool!
Have you tried the Toyota though? It’s usually the much better car for the race because it harvests hybrid better.

AlfaMegane did pretty good. The TTs are pretty quick though. SOmeone had lag. ^th to last bunched up. I was able to get a run into T1 with an SLS. When we passed the PZ, it just got swamped by all the other cars. Allowed me and two TTs to pull away for the rest of the race.

Um not sure what I am going to do this week.

I tend to do race C as it usually has a tiny bit of strategy which makes it a lot more interesting and fun. This week though it's just a straight up sprint with no fuel or tyre worries. I like the track but not really driven Gr.1 that much so going to have to see if I can get comfortable with them.

I have a feeling it's likely I am going to be doing race B this week unless I happen to be a Gr.1 savant or at least find a car really enjoy.

What’s the Race A car this week?
Bumper cars at Tsukuba

So done all 3 and meh

A is worse than last week, same sort of thing just getting the cars balance right, tricky could be fun and totally spoiled by everyone using other cars to corner. Pens only when you punted or maybe track limits. I didn't enjoy it, but bet some do
B is OK, decent track and right cars, but too short and no thinking. I know it's B not C, but
C to be fair only tried 2 cars, but they suck. TCS 5 and they still spin in 3rd, now I'll be the first to admit that my throttle control isn't great, but when you can't even short shift to get traction on a corner I think there's something wrong.

Might stick with B or might skip a week, hate the lobby but might try that as well.
