Had some really good races yesterday, this combo really suits me! Q’d with an R18, 3:22, raced with the TS050. Fastest lap in race was a 3:25.0. I picked up mostly top 5s and 2 podiums.
Gained a ton of DR too, was just below 25k on Sunday, now I’m at 28.3. Pushing for an A rank this week.
However, I am very confused. First, quali.
Got a 22 in an R18 like I said. Think it was a 23 in the Toyota. And a 24 in the 787B.
Dunno which car to pick.
Next, strategy. I led a race from the front, mostly 25s and 26s. I’m preferring 5M/1H because it gives you more clean air, but I always seem to get jumped by people doing a 1/2H and then M. I’m absolutely garbage here in dirty air, I always mess myself up in the sections where my Toyota does well. If I’m too aggressive, I punt people off. If I keep patient, I lose a ton of time, 28-27 average laps.
Next it’s car choice. A Sauber took 2 wins, but in the second race a Spaniard(who also punted me off) finished second in a Toyota. I also had a 787B well over 5s behind me on lap 2, he caught and passed me by lap 4 and then tested himself into the barrier at Indianapolis otherwise he would have beaten me. Haven’t tried the Peugeot yet.

@Pigems @GOTMAXPOWER :cheers:

Most of the time I use the default livery on the TS050 because 5 years on I'm still upset about how it retired :(

Race B - got my qualifying time improved enough that I've been rewarded with some starts towards the front of the grid. Especially important at Spa with these brutal rolling starts. Might be race nerves or whatever but my race pace could be better. Have done enough however to get back to A rank. Remains to be seen how long I'll stay there
I just hit you up for a friend request.

And yes, starts are just absurdly tricky.

So I'll jump in for a minute. A couple of things, you mentioned car choice, run what you can be the fastest in while still being consistent. This thing is sort of wide open for car choice at this level. And consistency pays off huge here with others spinning, track limit penalties and the like.
Second, getting jumped by people running hards first is understandable. You mentioned how much trouble you have with dirty air. When they pit early they end up with several prime laps of completely clear track and wonderful fresh mediums and they can use it to their advantage as an undercut. They also dont have to deal with adapting to hards for the last lap.
Good luck.

Race B tonight as I do not know my way round la sarthe. Its a jag, McLaren, rcz and tt fest. As with all MR cars, I can cobble together a qualy lap in the 650 but its edgy stuff and no way i could race in that thing.

The jag has been my go to group 4 for a long time and it's very good at spa. I ran a 27.7, thats about all I have, maybe 27.5 if I am perfect. That gets one top 5 in SB rooms.

Having trouble with the double left hander mid lap, not sure if I am braking too late or early but my apex speed is low and I am losing 3 tenths to peers through there.

Is it just me or is the race B combo kind of boring? I love Spa and have had great battles there, but not today.

The hot laps are fun, but the combo of rolling start and bus stop chicane is creating separation that isn’t easily closed in 3 laps. Eau Rouge, Radillon and Blanchimont can all be taken flat out and Gr. 4 cars don’t spin out easily, so no real place I’m seeing mistakes to capitalize on either. This needs a grid start, some tire wear, or some rain to mix things up.

I'm just liking the sense of terror by the Jag, when my Evo and WRX catch up and pass it between the straight and final chicane. I get passed before the PZ, but they're all mine after that.

One RCZ got hip. Blocking the apexes the rest of the race, after it served an early penalty.

I'll run the 1700 Race C to see what the fuss is about.

Edit: I set a 3.21.475. The Top 10 787B did a 3:16. Lordy lawwwd. Think I'll be one and done.

Had trouble with the same place. I found breaking and shifting down to 4th (using Jag) at the middle of the rumble strip before the corner, before throwing it in towards the apex, has helped me a lot. Tough to be consistent with that turn though

Done a few Race C so far this week. I’m avoiding the TS050 as it is my lazy go to car in Group 1 so started the week in the Hybrid Porsche. Great in the twisty bits, rubbish in a straight line. Overall, I find it uncompetitive.

Changed to the Peugeot because I’ve never driven it before and it seemed well suited. When I get it right it’s very competitive. Unfortunately I lose control of it once every 6 laps. Mulsanne and the final chicane are the two places I find it unstable. In my last race I went from P7 to P14 when it randomly decided to send itself at right angles to the track in the very last chicane.:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I usually really enjoy driving the 787 and it seems to be floating to the top as the week goes on. I may or may not give it a run over the coming days.

The track limits at Le Mans are always interesting but this week they seem super strict. I seem to have had them trigger in areas I’ve never had a problem before, e.g. The Dunlop esses and Porsche.

I just lowered my QT in C from :27 in the 787B to :23.2 in the Jag..

Yeah just knocked 5 sec and then another 2 in a quick one before the race, check my board and your still well over 4 secs ahead of me. Not doing many races, but Le Mans draws me in. Just can't get this right, braking far too early and too late back on the power. Still I'm getting better just can't convince myself I can brake that late....well it doesn't help I keep overshooting corners that I think I've braked early enough for.

i guess better cornering speed with the jag?
Yes, tighter lines, faster exits. Tried to replicate in the Mazda, couldn't do it.

I have overshot the Mulsanne corner a couple of times in race, because I have been braking too hard... ABS kicks in then. So feathering the brake just enough to keep the red as little as possible works wonders.
Also, slipstream is dangerous in braking zones. Pull out in clean air before braking, and lift off just before you brake to settle the front.

The R18 11’ is interesting to drive. Doesn’t have the outright top speed of the 908, an of course doesn’t have hybrid either to get out of the corners, but it’s so forgiving on its tyres that doing 5 laps is a doddle an very easy to drive consistently. Managed 4 3:23’s in the race on the bounce with ease an a 3:21 out lap on lap 2. Would recommend if anyone’s wanting a more easier car to drive. Just change gear as soon as you see a bar come on the shift bar as the power band is very early an it doesn’t like to be revved out.

Gonna pull a bit of a @Brown TE37s here...
I really hate grinding in this game so I never have much money, but I have 1 mil now. Should I buy the Peugeot 908? Any better choices? @GTR Racer 5 says the R18 11 is good too, kinda conflicted about that too. I have the '16 LMPs and all 5 Group Cs.
This is a serious question btw.

What does it matter if they start at the front or back? They’re gonna win anyways, so in reality it makes no matter at all. If you don’t like getting passed, then just get faster. :)

I am not the original starter of this discussion, but I am sharing my view. It doesn't matter if they are streamers or aliens, my view is the same. I have no trouble with anyone racing from the back as long as they are racing properly and not barging their way through.

I had a very frustrating experience in 2 races when the Gr4 N24 race was at daily C a while ago. Been in rooms with several aliens(regular topsplit/World Tour drivers) that raced from the back and I was pushed out of the track once, and shoved around 2-3 times cause they were trying to pass in places that are not fit for passing in N24. And the worst is that I did not fight it, knew that they are a lot faster, wanted to let them when possible - but I don't want to jump off track just because there is an alien behind.

While I have tried some of the other cars I am still mostly rocking the LM55 VGT in race C as it seems to be a good all rounder to me. It's not the best at anything be that top speed, acceleration, braking or cornering but it's good at each of those aspects. I can run 5M/1H, knock out consistent laps and it has got me some decent results.

I don't think I will be winning anything this week (best so far is a 4th) but I will be happy just to get some upward movement on my DR. The most important thing is that I am having a lot more fun this week so even if my DR doesn't recover I figure I am still ahead of the game.

Thanks for all the friend requests this week. Giving me something to aim at on my friends leaderboards (anyone else who wants to add me, psn is same as here, I'm low B if that matters:))

Long laps this week. Only had time last night for some hot laps to try to beat my K times. Managed that reasonably easily in races A and B but I was 5 seconds:eek: off my K time in C with the TS050.

Not a circuit I know well in game and hard to learn at gr1 speed. I'm lacking any kind of flow or smoothness. Will try again tonight after watching some track guides while "working" this afternoon!

Tried the Alpine VGT. Nice car.

PD, if you're reading this, please change the damn tyre icon when pitting. I'm on the RM. Run end of Lap 5. Go to move my joystick from the flashing "M" to the green "H". Yes, I pressed the button and selected RMs again:rolleyes::guilty:... but c'mon, the other mandatory tyre should be pre-selected. Other than the spinout I had at Indianapolis, that tyre fumble ruined my race.

I got my fastest qualifying lap in the Alpine VGT nothing special only 3.30.7 but it was 3 seconds faster than my previous. Having tried it in a couple of races it chews tyres or at least it does the way I drive so I can't really run it too well over race distance.

I will try and remember to pop you off a request later.

Also try the circuit experience to help with learning. The car is a Gr1 and you can focus on your weaker areas without having to wait a lap to do it again.

It hasn't been mentioned much, but I had a good bit of fun at Fuji last night in the Porsches. I'm still running mostly with D/E guys because I just started the game, but had a few good races with not too much in the way of shenadigans. Ran a quali time good enough for a few poles and got disconnected on lap 3 while in the lead of the 4th race (a finish on each spot of the podium before that). Still getting the hang of GT again after quite a while away, so there were a few mistakes and overly cautious driving.

Racing with 962C .
The car is a real azzkicker
Podiums in my last 5 races (3 EMEA; 2 AMERICAS)

The Hybrids death has come
I was in the 908 chasing you in the 1st race I made too many mistakes finished 2nd that was the 6:30 race. i was really gaining on you thru the whole final sector porshe curves on just could not get close enough. 7am race i had it all done and dusted but made a mistake selected mediums ( ughhhh) on my pit at lap 6 ohh well good races though

The 908 is an excellent car for Lemans. It isn't the best at anything, but very good all-around. Someone in a 908 gave me a very competitive race last night. They're faster on the straights than I realized.

The 908 is better than the Tomahawk, had yesterday two races where I held my own against an EMEA alien in a Tomahawk. Very fast on straights but also good on the last part of the track because of the downforce. Of course hybrids will destroy you on the acceleration zones but you can overtake them as soon as the speed passes over 250 km/h.

My DR is tanking due to idiots. The racing is closer and better, but people know they can touch your rear quarter in a fight and get past, plus divebombing. Tried 3 races at DTG to try and raise my DR. Plenty of battles ahead and made places due to people going off. However last lap there was always an idiot gunning for me. I seemed to have a target on my back. Race 1 this happened.

The Frenchman got a bad run out of the chicane which got me close. I didn't intend to make a move at the hairpin but realised I was going to hit them so moved out. They obviously were unaware of their surroundings. Due to this and other battles which hadn't gone their way they decided to dive up my inside and continue turning left into me spinning me out. They too spun and quit in the end. Left me to finish DFL.
Nice to see @MARLEY_75 again.

Changed to the 911 and it races really well here.
Race 2 started o.k. I got a run on a Spaniard ahead and they didn't like that and tried to put me off the track. I squeezed past and at the hairpin they punt me clean off. They do get a penalty. I manage to recover and find myself in 8th on the last lap. Nope, the guy behind dives in from way back and punts me off at the hairpin. End up 12th whilst he got away scott free with my 8th place.

I manage to shave just under half a second from my Qualy time before the next race. O.k. that might put me ahead of some carnage. Nope.
Race 3 started 5th. (Finally on the welcome screen this week outside A) Several Italians are bashing each other all over the track. I swap positions all over and the guy in the M3 is constantly diving at the hairpin. I know he is doing this so give him room. He does go off at the first part of Istanbul and I gain 4th. Right last lap just keep it on the track for a good result. Finally. Nope I run to close over the corner in the right after the hairpin. I get a 0.5 penalty and this messes me up. I then run wide through Istanbul and the car wants to spin. I control it but it tankslaps and I control it. Only for it to tankslap again and this time it goes round. I recover and cross the line 12th again.

This really frustrated me most of all as I avoided the idiots this time to be undone by the one behind my wheel.
I was going to quit but decided to try a race A as I had somewhat got an affinity with the race and found it to be quite clean the last few days.

Qualified 5th. Got a daemon start and found myself 3rd off the line before the dives put me back to 5th. Turn 4 and someone goes wide. Gain a place. Stay here for a few laps. 2nd and 3rd are in a close fair race. Then lap 4 one goes wide at turn 4 and I gain their place. Up to 3rd. Nice. I don't seem to have the pace of the top 2. However 2nd outbrakes themselves at turn 1 on the penultimate lap. I grab 2nd and stay there for the rest of the race.
Had a couple of side by side moments with another Brit. egobreed. Very fair racing, so shoutout to them.
Might try a few more Race A's before the 2pm nations start. Otherwise not many points will be on offer.

That is shocking, but since the update i have had many incidents like that, just keep at it, the racing gets better the higher C DR you are but there are still loads of idiots out there who just block you and push you off track, sad really as it ruins your DR - hope to see you again soon
