Thank you for your reply, I understand, that DR can go up or down depending on wins, it’s not like xp, and not time bound. But, I see, that my dynamic in getting DR up less, than other guys, it’s only because I not winning often? What should I do - get a wheel and pedals?

It can make it easier to go faster for a lot of people but it's really not necessary, there are some very quick drivers who use the pad, so it's possible to go quick with it if you put the practice in.

A wheel does make the game far more fun though.

Daily Race C, 18:30 Room
Red Bull X2014 Standard One-Make

Qualified 2nd, finished 2nd. My 2:57.948 lap was only enough to start 2nd due to the appearance of @leaves_2B with a 2:55.7 to his name. Even though I got the chance to overtake him on the Dunlop Chicane, my car decides to kick the rear end out, allowing the polesitter to just streak away. I gained a lot of time by cutting off bits of the Ford Chicane, to the point where I decided to abuse the sausage kerb! Other than that, it was just a boring race seeing the 3rd place guy just dropping off. Two people pitted in for this race, which to be honest is a lot less suitable than to just not stopping at all.

Three races at Tsukuba from pole, first race got hit in turn one but managed second, then the fun started;

Race was basically after half a lap, tootled round to the finish and got a clean race bonus.

Race three was a bit more intense;

Didn't do any race C yet, does it require refuel/tires change? thanks!
No need to stop for tyres and fuel for Race C. You have way more than enough fuel and the tyres are durable enough (combined the fact that the X2014 is such a super downforce-y car and Le Mans has less tyre killing turns than several others) to finish the entire 6 laps of the race.

Back to the "dailies" again, and on to Race C. Now I'm pretty crap with the Red Bull Sr, braking when I should be putting the boot in. I was used to the Group C cars on that track still :lol:. Racing with some of the hybrids probably would have helped. I qualified P9/14 on a grid of mostly DR/Bs with 5 of us DR/Ds and a stray S and C.

Auto drive dumped me between chicanes and I somehow managed to hold on. There was a little contact but overall as far as I could tell it was fairly clean for a change. I know I was loosing time in some places, but I did seem to hold my own or gain at Porsche. I couldn't figure out how to take the whole series flat stick, but I was getting through the section in 7th with a bit of easing off in places. I made a few passes, passed a few wrecks, and managed to finish the race without changing tyres, although some did. They were suffering a bit towards the end, but I felt the tyre wear was much easier to deal with than at Red Bull Ring. I finished P6, much to my surprise.

SR didn't go up, which was unexpected considering I only recall seeing one orange SR the whole race. DR went up about 450. Another day above DR 1 :dopey:.

Only 30,31 (https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?profile=6223162), but I got a few race, that are included in stats, where I don’t bother setting good time at all, just open qualification, race two laps, quit qualification.

Ok so you have something to work with immediately that will see great strides in DR rating.

Qualifying a good time is really important for your final DR rating after a race.

Most definitely, it’s hard to win from outside the top 3/4 in a race, especially as you move up in the ranks. I spend more time on qually laps then I do actually racing. :)

Why reverse Seaside ... AGAIN?

On another note, after my griping about being thrown in savage lobbies after my SR jumped to S, i just checked my qualy times from last week. At Catalunya i was slow, 5.1% off, at my better tracks i am about 3.5% off the fastest time. But ay Yamagiwa, I was 3.0%, really quite fast for me as i've only done better than that at the outlier that is Tsakuba.

Still, was qualifying 14, 15 etc at Yamagiwa, the S SR rating really does leave you with the wolves.

yes but those are the best kind of wolves! the higher the people in the lobby are ranked, the easier it will be to gain DR because you won't be expected to finish higher than those A+ guys. When my SR drops below 90 and I end up in the 2nd tier lobby, it usually sucks because the algorithm expects me to win the race.....which I often do in those lobbies, but one punt or serious mistake and I'm losing some massive DR points. Even in the top lobbies I'm expected to win or get podium or lose points. Sometimes finishing 3rd in a top lobby loses me points and winning might only gain a couple hundred DR. I understand the frustration, I was there too, but I did get better quicker and now I sit on pole or the top 3-5 almost all the time and have some great battles with some of the best and cleanest players in the game. It's been worth it. Keep it up bud, just getting in those lobbies is a good accomplishment and kind of a badge of honor to stay there with those guys.

Am I right in thinking I'm going to be massively disadvantaged in Race A because I'm not using a shifter?

You're assuming I can keep up :lol::lol: By the end of lap 1 i am usually fighting for last so my SR stays at 99 as i have no one to race. Let's see what Seaside brings this week, should be interesting.

@Winnie847
I look at it as a compliment to myself at my current dr when the game chooses to put me in fast lobbies.
Normally I just look at qual times when the lobby opens to view my competition. I dont even look at the names at the top in that case just those near my level.
Just noticed you were up front in one of my replays. Cheers. Nice driving.
That night, I was like ok, these are fast b drivers but I just need to maintain position here at 15th or whatever.
Honestly the races this week when I’ve been matched up towards the bottom of the grid have been some of the most fun I have had.
Plus, bonus, for myself, I get to save and study the replay if I do choose. If there are studs at the top I can watch it from their viewpoint and learn about the real racepace and lines and stuff.
The best way to get better imo is to face some challenges and get through. It toughens you up.

Trust me I feel your pain. There was a time not very long ago, when I was in the same boat. Let me give you some context.....

I got this game in December of 2017. Didn't get a wheel until April. Before this game I hadn't played a single video game for more than a couple hours in over 15 years. I'm 36 now. I played GT1 and GT3 on controller only, never played any game online before, and I didn't even know about driver aids back then so I was probably using all of them. I used to just run over the AI and smash through my friends when playing multiplayer. Also for the first six months or so of having this game I only used Supersoft tires and tuned all my cars to the max using tunes found here on GTP. So once I started playing Sport Mode I was at a pretty big disadvantage but I quickly realized that's where all the fastest people are and using RH tires was the only way to go. So basically this is the first so-called "racing sim" I've ever taken seriously and it's still the only game my old butt ever plays. I fought my way up to DR-B and assumed I'd never reach DR-A. Did a lot of reading on here, practiced more, and made DR-A before too long. Then I thought for sure there would be no way I'd ever make it to A+. Not too much longer and I made it. Then I thought it was definitely a fluke and I was only taking advantage of my best combos. But here I am, still in A+ after racing a ton of combos and I only occasionally dip down below 50k, and it's been awhile since the last time I did that. At this point, I've had 2 qualy times in the Top 10 of Americas Region, and I still use Traction Control as well as auto-transmission. I've beaten a handful of aliens at combos that favor me, but they usually smoke me in other areas, and that's fine with me. Not bad for an old rusty dude who uses traction control, lol. If I can do it, you'll certainly get there. I still get demolished if I happen to join the FIA races at the right (or wrong?) time and it's filled with aliens. Bringing up the rear is still something I expect when the competition is stiff, it's all relative though. My suggestion to you is spend a good amount of time qualifying for awhile, and you'll get pretty good at it, even if you don't plan on racing that day or even that track, it will help you learn the nuances of all the tracks and cars. Eventually you'll get better at putting up great lap times without spending too much time trying, and that can make all the difference.

That's a good attitude to have, but not an easy one to adopt. I wasn't as positive when I first started getting matched with crazy fast guys, I was upset about it because everyone likes to win. But you're right, some of the best races and battles I've ever had have been from starting mid field or even near the back. Even now when I start on pole I'm happy because I have a better chance of winning, but I know the potential for a boring race is greater. The most fun I have is when I start in the top 5 but not on pole, because there are fast guys all around and I know I still have a chance to win but I have to work for it and have fun in the process.

Thanks for the compliment man. Which races were you watching replays of with me in them? And what's your psn? There's a chance I might have saved the replay too.

Did about 20 laps warm up on Race A. Entered a race with a 1:06. P5 start.

Rare lower DR B/C/D SR S grid for me. Had a good start. Moved up. 3rd place at the end of lap 1.

Get punted on T1 on lap 2 (middle finger). Down to 9th. Move back up to 6th. Gaining, feeling confident going into the last lap. 2nd last turn. Get dive bombed (two middle fingers). Luckily slowed down enough to avoid collision but lose momentum and a place to the diver. Finish 8th. No clean race bonus. None of the offenders are red.

With that out of the way. Things can only get better. I probably need another .5 seconds off QT before trying again.

+ Next race much better. 1:05.7 QT. P4, finished 2nd. Very clean.
