I had great fun last night

After ~10 or so laps of Race A I went into a race, think I qualified 8th/9th. 1st only just managed to get ahead which allowed 2nd-7th to knock lumps out of each other for ten laps. I was in every position covered in that range at some point, and I think I got punted off twice. Still managed to finish the race in second with a red SR rating even though along with the winner I was the only one who didn't get a penalty at any time.

787B at Monza, one qualifying lap. On medium tyres because I didn't think to check. Started 13th after various DC's, didn't know which tyre to pick so I went with hard. No grip at all, so I pitted after 3 laps assuming mediums would finish the race. Forgot to put fuel in, so pitted again for softs with 3 laps to go. I'm not sure about going soft/soft in that race in that car, I think 5 laps is the most I'd trust myself to do. Still, if you can trust the people you race against to not plough you off at a chicane you should do okay.

You can change tyres in the car settings in quali. So you are able to practice any compound

This is good to know since I just recently found the desire to venture into the Race C last week. Even got my 1st win ever on N24 :D. Didn't even think to try and switch last week :crazy:.

Try starting with TCS 2, then switch to 1 once you get going. Brake bias 2. These are guesses. I haven't tried the race yet, but these settings usually work ok for that car.
I only race on Thursdays and Fridays, but am looking forward to race A. I assume that when I do qualify, I'll probably shatter the world record. :mischievous:

Well I managed to get my time down to a 0:47.962 but still finding it difficult with getting the lines right, this is
probably toughest challenge I have faced in GT Sport when it comes to qualifying.

Nice work! Is there a particular corner/line you having trouble with? It’s a short track, but it’s definitely not as easy as I was expecting going in. Your definitely right about it being tough to find the right groove.

For me it’s the final corner im finding really tough, I’ve finally found a breaking point I like but I can’t seem to find the right spot to start to turn in at, it seems to be past the cone but I can’t seem to nail down exactly how far past yet, It’s there somewhere though lol. :)

It wasn't like that at the RBR ring at the start of last week but by the end it was, so many A drivers ended up with SR drops and a lot of them may not be back at the top of S yet. As a A+ driver I shouldn't be racing D drivers but some days I was and it was not fair at all. ...

Well for Australians and New Zealanders I think mixed races will be far more common. Have to find out I guess ... will be more difficult to win a race if your a B driver though IMO.

Another week of fun in the race C. Banked a couple of wins last week at Nurburgring and already 7 wins today at Monza. I don't know if I want to say my recipe... :lol: Let's say, there's a Gr.1 car that nobody uses that is pretty effective in the long run for that circuit. The thing is, this car is not the fastest for the quali, so I set my lap with the R92 and use that mysterious car for the race.

aww come on man, spill the beans! I'm going to find out anyway when I join one of these races later in the week and you win it.
 
Another Clean Dub! The guy in 2nd made it a great race too, he never caught me but he never fell more than .8s behind either, he was right there floating between .4s and .8s the entire race. Coming around the final corner on lap 8 I missed a shift(stupid DFGT small buttons lol) and he closed down the gap to .2 and I thought for a second he was gonna get around me on the straight but luckily he didn’t, so I hammered down and put in my best race lap so far of 47.535 and he fell back a bit only to catch right back up by the final corner of the last lap, I only ended up beating him by .1xx. It was a really fun race, I hope there is more of that to come. :)

Make that 3 for 3, the Black Scirocco is Rockin this week. It was a faster room this time, 4 A’s and the Rest B’s, I started 2nd, messed up the start and a couple guys got around me but they all bumped into each other going into T1. I saw and opening and took it, ended up with a .5s lead leaving T3 and expected at least one other guy to break away and make a race of it, but sadly no one did. I built a 3s lead by the final lap and took it a little easy around lap 10 to ensure no mistakes, I finished with a 2.3s gap behind me. Race A has been very good to me so far. :)

Come on in race B. The water is fine. I went with a couple qual laps waiting for matching and hit a .34 flat. It’s not enough to get up the grid for bs. Gotta hit a low 33. Started 10 in race 1, lap 2 people were battling and I got up to 6 from all their battling and then they wiped out in front of me. I braked, avoided barely but got rear ended by the fellas behind me and punted in the fast left maybe turn 3? I had the two car streaking sideways across the track in front of me.
No orange down arrow just stuck in dfl. I recovered by the end to my start position so I must say it was still a good race. Second race I started 10 and finished 6. The heartbeat of America was beating strong as I outdid the Found On Road Dead And Viper chasing. It was quite exhilarating running tight with some good drivers.
Not bad. I picked up a hundred dr for my efforts ad stayed sr 99. Race 2 got a clean bonus!
I ran a couple times equal to my qual in race. I run faster when chasing. I really enjoy that track. What I profit from is battles. People get stuck in battle mode and don’t want to give an inch which can be a huge mistake. I’m right behind ya runnin the race line and I love to see battles. IMO some of these younger guys should think ahead instead of running 2 wide battling for 7th you know? Seriously sometimes it’s faster to allow an overtake and run the race line instead of getting out of shape all over.
I’m not what I would call fast, just consistent in gr3. It pays dividends. I may work a bit on the qual time, but tbh I just enjoy racing people in a fair fashion.
Really nice runs tonight. I’ve truly found after being 99sr for quite a while now that it seems like the people I race are pretty clean/concerned to avoid contact.

I did a couple more races at Monza. Last one I made it to 2nd from 16th in the R92CP. All 3 races had a lot of door banging in the first laps, yet apart from a few SR Downs I came out with my SR intact. Not everyone is that lucky as again I saw some drop straight to SR.B from S. DR is up a bit, or rather fairly stable close to 42K.

Monza without chicane is definitely not as exciting. Plus the vast differences in how the GR.1 cars behave and how fast tires degrade makes it rather messy. Avoid running into people then pass on the straight is pretty much all it is. Drafting also has a huge effect and can shave of seconds of lap times.

Oh well, nothing compares to racing on N24, hence my rather lackluster race schedule this week. I even fired up RDR2 online beta today, definitely worse than Monza lol. Don't bother. Perhaps I'll try some different cars tomorrow, yet after Sarthe was added Monza has lost a lot of its appeal. Sarthe is a much better version of Monza. Both are similar stop go tracks. Monza is like the Suzuka East of Sarthe.
 
Had some fun in race B tonight. Got into the 33's so I started 4th and 2nd. Gained a position in both those races (first win!). Kudos to the Subaru driver that had the pole in the race I won. Good, clean race. We swapped a little paint and he got in a bit deep on the last lap and clocked me in the hairpin, but slowed and gave back the position, so I got the win...and my first fastest lap. Been driving the Mazda for the handling, but may try the 'stang next time. Might have to buy a Ferrari...I've always wanted a Ferrari.

Last B race of the night in the Mustang. Not so good. 5th on the grid and got away clean, second lap hairpin almost rear ended 4th and got hit by 6th through 8th as they went by inside. No penalty for me, at least. Caught back up and got into 7th (spin) and made a clean pass for 6th on the straight, moved over to the right when i cleared and had about a tenth second when i hit the brakes...he plowed right into me and knocked me to the wall. WTH. Finished a lonely 8th. Best lap was a high 35. Couldn't get the 'Stang to turn in on the brakes. Might try playing with bias.

I’m really only playing race c I think.
I have attained two more wins in the R92cp.
Some garbage races were in there though.
 
Just got a few podiums in Interlagos. How is it that I have better average finishing results on one of the tracks that I'm not comfortable on, and I get destroyed on other tracks that I absolutely love? I'm always thinking I suck at this track, but oh look, I'm in the front and pulling away. I go to another thinking, yeah I got this in the bag, feeling really fast. Nope, I'm starting 15th and lucky to stay there until the end. Real head-scratcher.:lol:

Last corner and T1/T2 sharp corner seem to be my main weakness.

I've noticed that on turn 2, you can get below the curb and into the yellow area without a penalty.

Just got a few podiums in Interlagos. How is it that I have better average finishing results on one of the tracks that I'm not comfortable on, and I get destroyed on other tracks that I absolutely love? I'm always thinking I suck at this track, but oh look, I'm in the front and pulling away. I go to another thinking, yeah I got this in the bag, feeling really fast. Ha, perhaps I should try Interlagos. Monza is my strongest track when looking at wins. However this week I'm scratching my head how to get a lap time under 1:25 with any regular frequency while the best lap is 1:21 in races. Matchmaking is also really inconsistent. 6:30 race I finish 10th, 38 seconds behind the leader. 7 pm race I finish 2nd driving pretty much the same, 10 seconds behind the leader. Both at max SR. There is always chaos though so the chances of staying in 15th are remote if you simply keep the car on the track.
 
reading the update details "various other issues will be addressed" :crazy:. That's as useless as MS's "an error has occurred" . My guess is they won't be addressing the penalty system issues :dunce:. Downloading now, then practice with the Alpine. No one uses it, and since I've been dropped back to DR/D again, I have nothing to loose :p.
 
OK I did 3 races a Interlagos, the new and exclusive Oceana group - and WOW - the game is now SHARP. There's nothing fuzzy anymore. The 2nd and 3rd races were all group B (I'm one) and we had similar qualifying times. I drove the mercedes - not the AMG - but it seemed slower in the race than during practice. I tried fiddling with the brake balance and probably lost my concentration. Swapped to the Porsche and was in front and went wide entering the main straight. But I don't feel fast here ... might need to practice more. I have been scoring bad manner points too - when they leave the door open, I tend to go in ... and I loose points. Must ensure I am clear ahead before I do that sort of thing. Its cost me several places. But there is no compulsory penalty zone yet ...

Might try a late night race and see if there is a race at all ... but its much easier to drive now - our new server must be running at Absolute Zero it feels so instant. Wow ...

Just trying to do clean races as I usually do, to get my B up to an A, I come across a whole bunch of idiots (which god alone knows how they got a B S rating in the 1st place) that were all more into bundu bashing than racing. I tried a 2nd time and same thing happened. Thanks to all these useless *****, I'm now down to a D E rating.

Reckon its worth looking at the replay and your penalties - maybe there's something you can do.

Myself - I am lately getting penalties but its typically when I try to overtake and I am not clearly in front. The problem for me is that if I try to avoid every car all the time ... it ends up not feeling like I am racing. I want to be clean though, so I am paying more attention to my penalties. Having a reasonable qualifying time also helps, because the further to the front you are the lower the probability of something happening.

Also pay heaps of attention to the first corner. Where is the safest place to be? Typically you won't be as fast approaching the first corner as you would be in practice - so consider a late braking point for the first corner. What gap behind you is safe enough to give you the fastest racing line? Make sure you start well and get in the slipstream of the car in front. Is the guy behind looking like he's going to drive the racing line and if not is he going inside you or outside?? Some cars are faster in the sprint to the first corner, so be prepared to let the fast starting car through hopefully without you ending up just in front of the car the started two places behind you. Pick an alternative racing line if the car behind you is going to compromise your best racing line. Before the start check to see the ratings of the cars behind you - are they S? A? E??? :eek:

IMO if you're on the outside and leading the inside car, you won't get a penalty and maybe no demerit points. But you risk being driven off the track when you are out wide. Best choice? That's the fun of it.

Beat my qualifying time with the Alpine. That put me on a massive grid of get this.... 11 👍. Supposed to be 20 yeh? We had mostly DR/Bs (which is exactly what I said would happen). We also had SR/S - SR/D. I qualified P9.

Knocked off at the chicane I was in P11. I had occasional daliances with P10. Came off a few times, but still managed to finish P8 on a no-stop. My tyres were shot and I was lucky not to drift the last corner.

SR back to 99, DR down another 110. Another day above DR 1 :banghead:.
 
Just noticed the GR 4 Lambo has got a power nerf of 1%, I mean what??? It's already slow in a straight line and it was impossible to overtake some cars before as even with a better exit and slipstream it was left behind.

Why not give some of the other unused cars a boost instead, now the TT will be used to death (if it wasn't already), when there is no tyre wear at least.

I am also BS. I also wonder how some drivers earned their SR S rating. Some of them are extremely aggressive. But they know the tricks how to avoid punishment or to impose it on the victim. The penalty system is completely broken and that's what these drivers use for their benefit. I saw drivers who rammed through the half starter field and had a blue S at the end while all the drivers behind had time penalties and sometimes massive devaluations. With such drivers, I slow down and let them overtake or even try not to overtake them. Fighting with them does not make sense because you always lose. This is of course extremely frustrating and has nothing to do with racing. This is exactly the reason why I drive much less often than before.
