Last week at BB I was using +4 (to the right side of the dial). This week -2. Because someone here suggested -2 for th Nord (thanks). +2 did seem slower though. In all of my cars I am +1 or +2 or more, but the Nord device is not a car IMO.

that was me. i am actually going to try -3 to see if i can squeeze out some more time but i ran my 8:05.6xx at -2. it would likely make sense in this car as it should be very front heavy if PD modelled it correctly -- that's another beef of mine, we lost weight distribution metrics between gt6 and gts as well as a meaningful power/torque curves to tell you exactly at what RPM the cars make most power. this was key to determining shift points. now we just rely on the stupid blinky shift light but i know some cars are faster if you go well beyond the shift light and some are faster (think american muscle) if you shift before. then there's the whole tuning thing or lack of in sport mode. i will stop now before i sound too much like praiano.

I find it best not to mess with things. I get used to the car by racing a lot and adapt. 3 races with BB +5 or -5 is not enough to undo 20 races with the default. I do notice the difference, yet after fine tuning my driving with one setting it's hard to switch. Switching tv already takes several races to tune to the difference is display lag.

I am experimenting with different shifts again, I'm slow at the first section. Not surprising since I usually race without qualifying and don't get to press the gas pedal until flugplatz :lol: Got to unlearn that pre-emptive braking and coasting through the first sector.

That's a lot quicker than me, I might drive 5 laps and see what happens. I am only 8:10.2 but that did also include a penalty which I spent poorly, plus a few other mishaps. My race time is 8:36 but I don't know how that correlates to qualifying because if you are leading why over push it? Especially when its a single lap race and hitting a wall will cost 2 seconds or more plus a 5 second penalty because PD like to advise you to slow down after you just chucked away 2 seconds by driving too fast ...

It takes two to make a clean pass on Nord. In the race I did just now I exchanged places with another clean driver a few times. Side by side for up to 20 seconds with how small the speed differences are. It's very easy to block, passing only works with other clean and capable drivers. Some are clean yet get too close to the edge and slip into you.

I gave up on backfield racing as meeting clean and capable drivers on the Nord at the back is too rare. You don't need a stellar time, just enough to get racing with the capable crowd, not get stuck behind the 8:30 qualifiers :)

That's me, sadly. I'm currently sporting an embarrassing 8:37. Granted, that was my first qualification lap where I met the gravel a few times :O so I'm working on it. You're right about clean drivers, I've sadly just ran into a few too many "You Shall Not Pass" drivers on this track so qualifying seems to be the way to go. Hopefully that winds me up against cleaner/capable drivers once I refine my QT.
 
Yay found another one :banghead: Dirty hour has started again.
He punted me twice, calling me and reported me for being slow afterwards :lol:

Getting hit left and right again in Race A. Down from 99 to 39. Next bad race and we have another reset.
Now I need 12 clean races to get back to where my SR started. So extremely disappointing!

I'm starting on pole or 2nd a lot. I try to avoid contact, but how can I avoid people from behind without just parking on the side???
Every time I cannot get away from the pack of idiots in the first lap, my race just gets ruined by a random guy or more diving on me in corner 2, because I take a wider entry there...

I was in a few races with you earlier today. I mostly survived by having as much space as I could in corners. I seem to take a different line from everyone else though, I go much deeper into turn one and take a much shallower line in the last corner, maybe that does it.

"Earlier today" was much better. I only lost 30 SR once :yuck:

Reverting to farming now. Will do some laps at Nordschleife back of pack - will also help to memorize the track better

Nice. What happened to the guy who started 2nd behind me in that race? He hit me in T-2 and I got the one more contact and you will be disqualified warning, then I saw you behind me and felt at ease to drive normally lol, but I didn’t see what happened to him. You were right on my @$$ there for a good chunk of that race too. :)

I usually get a banker lap in, something I’m relatively happy with, then I’ll run enough races to the point where I feel I’m in a good groove and know the track and car combo enough that I can set a faster qualifying time. Sometimes this might just be a few races, other times it might take a day or so later.

Basically it all comes down to practice, really. It’s a bit different to real life, where you’ll get one or two practice sessions before qualifying. In GT Sport you (or at least I) just want to get on with it and start racing.

That's the guy who gave @Groundfish a hard time. I was getting ready to knock the snot out of him again, but he did himself in, so I didn't have to. I'm sorry, I forgot that was you on the pole for the last two races ( I'm drinking). I would've come up there and done some blocking for you. Good job. 👍

Guess I'm starting too soon, still dirty out there. I had to spend 7 SR for some street justice, triple bump pass me into the wall and I get SR Down.... That's not going to fly, see how you like facing backwards on the track.

Best advice I can give right meow is get below an 8.07.xxx pretty clean ahead of that unless you like oakly's

When I did my lap before the update, I was happy with 2:02.3. After the update came out, I took the F1 GTR out for some laps and eventually got a 2:01.7 (which took me about 3 hours to do haha).

I spend a good amount of time doing Q laps. I find it fun to do for the most part, and do some races later (especially if I feel confident with the car/track).

I just came back from a good long break, so I'm already making good use of that advice. Took a good long walk on the treadmill since the weather is rubbish today. I think part of the frustration is from me pushing myself too much, forcing a mistake on myself.

I wonder if there's anything else I can do... Hmm. I'll probably do a casual drive on the C race's time trial before I start trying.

Ehhh. I'm not one that likes to drink, and even if I did, there's none of that stuff in this house, so I'll stick to water haha.

I read a racing book, I think it helped but I can’t say for sure, but I am getting faster. :)

Oh, and RedBull. :D

Ah ok, I hadn’t seen him before, thanks. :)

I was all good in the first race, I cleared 2nd by 9+ seconds by the end and I let way off at the end of the big straight just to make sure I didn’t wreck it on the final corner. :lol:

The second race that guy with the blue and white flag that started 2nd was right on me the entire race, i stretched him out to 1.2 at times but by the end of the final straight he right on my bumper from drafting me down the straight and I was prepared for the worst, but he backed off early and braked so I was able to hold him off in the last 2 corners. It’s so nice when people race properly, why can’t more people be like that. :)

Speaking of the racing book, those 3 books you mentioned a while back came in the mail. :D This is probably the first time I'm reading something because I want to. which is pathetic of me

Oh heck no. I do not mess with energy drinks at all. After what happened a few years back, I am definitely not going down that route. :eek:

The one I read was very interesting and had a ton of great info in it. I’d suggest starting with that one for sure. I hadn’t read a book since I was in school either so I know exactly how you feel there, although back then I’d typically just “read” books that had been made into movies. :lol:

Maybe just coffee/tea then for you. :)
 
Since when did qualifier times count with a penalty?

I just shaved over two seconds off my Nurb time all because of switching to a -2 brake balance. I was up on my previous best by three seconds but had ran slightly wide on a corner. Didn’t quite burn off the penalty before crossing the line, but it just added it on and kept it as legit.

I don’t see myself dipping into the 8:05s unless I pull the wheel out...
