Didn't really think about it, at the time. If I had punted him previously, I would have been more suspicious. No matter. His name is mud, now. If any of the other guys here had posted that video, I'd go out looking for him.

Never got to post earlier, but i had a handful of great races this morning. Starting top three and holding or improving my place in each race, except the last one. In that race things went bad for me when the car slid out a bit and i couldn't hold it. I dishex out some justice on the first lap though lol guy pushed his way passed me in t1 but couldn't get away and i cought him on the way to the next hairpin by shifting better and he tried to duck inside then push me off again. I saw it coming and slowed enough to stay on his but. After the little right bend i touched his bumper then touched the grass, BAM!!! 3 seconds penalty. It felt pretty good to actually punish someone for being a ********. I will not be doing this often though, trust me....

Right, but how many SR points are lost per quit?

Also, what do you think of the hypothesis that the trophies for wins/poles could be especially hard due to the small playerbase, given the data that @Hoof Arted posted?

A quit only costs 5 SR (plus minus whatever you lost or gained before quitting)

The trophies were certainly easier to get when you could still have success by lowering your DR. Lowering SR works better nowadays. Getting reset to D/E helps wonders with poles, wins and fastest laps.
 
Just did a race, too many bump passing Canadians on the track. One used me as a guide for the bridge section. His name is easy to remember so next time I'll return the favor. I naturally got a 5 sec penalty for getting grinded into the wall and -4 SR to 48. I though about punting him on the final turn but instead I'll give him the penalty back next time I see him on the track.

I guess I won't see him, disconnected during matchmaking, still not fixed.

The next race was not bad, until the last lap lol. I was back and forth with a guy in a Bugatti most of the race and we made our way through the pack, he was pretty good all race. Then he pulls this on the final turn and straightaway. :lol:


He broadcasted it big time so I knew what he was up to as soon as he didn’t pull to the outside, so I braked early in hopes of not going too far through the corner but he hit me again lol. I tried to get up to his right to shove him in the pits before the finish line but he pinched me off into the wall before I could get beside him. Oh well, all three of them had penalties and I finished ahead of all of them when all was said and done. A 4th place finish in the end and 13 positions gained and got FL with a 9.0 on lap 4. :)

The Mediums didn’t feel as bad as they look here at the end, they were definitely understeery but not undrivable at all.

Going M/M with a stop next race, I slowed to kill a 10 second penalty on lap 2 in that last race and still got 4th with crap tires for 3 laps, fresh tires might make up the difference of the stop, we will see. :)

I see - but what do you think of the hypothesis regarding playercount? And what did they change insofar that lowering SR works better?

I suppose what I'm trying to ask, is how would you personally change the game (either the matchmaking, or some other factor that may not even be in your control, like playercount) to make these trophies a bit more bearable to get - or at least not force players to compete against aliens to get them? I do like the cute F1 driver stats motif that PD used for the wins/poles/total races trophies, though.
 
The M/M one stop was better than the no stop on M the whole way. I went into the pits on the end of lap 4 in 6th, came out in 6th but got passed by two cars going down the rest of the straight. That was my fault though, I didn’t realize it was such a short stonakd I got caught eating Mr. Noodles when I came out of the pits so I sort of just coasted out for a second or two until I could put the noodles down :lol:

By the end I had made it back up to 4th but I had to kill of 9 seconds in penalties again at the end so I ended up finishing 5th by less than a tenth. It was a nice race, no one doing dumb things, still lots of penalties and I finished with a Red C, but nothing intentional which is always nice lol.

Damm, Missed the next race watching the replay of two ghost cars creeping across the line at 5/10km/h on a 250kn/h straight away. :lol:

It actually wasn’t that bad you know, I wouldn’t try it on my good account, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as we both were expecting it to be. :lol:

Edit: So far tonight, DR up 1k, SR down 32, at 24 now lol.

Lowering SR has a bigger chance of pitting you against drivers closer to your skill level.
Most drivers are in SR.C and SR.B which gives matchmaking a much bigger pool of DR to match you with.
In SR.S you are usually just grid filler for the fast guys.

I would personally get rid of the trophies. They only cause trouble, making people game the system to get easier wins etc, making them more aggressive to get the wins or cheat to get the fastest lap. (For some reason shortcuts still give you the fastest lap. If you want the fastest lap on Sarthe, simply skip the final chicane and ignore the penalty...)

Instead have trophies for total number of clean races and one for consecutive clean races (which is only an achievement in the game atm) as well as a trophy for staying in SR.S for x number of days. More fun trophies for close finishes, lapping like clockwork, staying close with other cars without touching for multiple laps.

Yeah, I saw you, then all the cars ran into the walls over and over before the start. The autodrive just steered us into the wall about 3 times before we could start. It was pretty weird.
@Pigems I'm at 34.

Videos like these are what makes me scared of dropping from SR S. I can't imagine how bad it's at SRs lower than A. SR S can have bad eggs but BS like in your video is at least uncommon.

I haven't been brave enough to go full Mediums. I tried a race in the Huracan with Mediums at the back and Hards at front which felt fine. I never felt like I needed to pit.

I see. So how would you potentially amend matchmaking to account for this? My idea was to have matchmaking more biased towards matching DR. But I did have an idea for the algorithm just now:
1. The matchmaking algorithm takes account of your SR score first. Let's pretend it's 99 (S) in this scenario.
2. With the SR grade in mind, the algorithm would proceed to find players with the same SR grade.
3. From this pool, it would then take your DR score, and search in ranges of +/- 1000 points. So if you had a DR of 21000 (B), it would be searching for players between 20000 and 22000 DR, who also have an SR of 99.
4. If there are not enough players within this criteria, then the algorithm will begin to search for players with the same DR window (+/- 1000), but with an expanded SR range, as well, expanding to +/- 5 SR point.
5. If the field still cannot be populated, then the searched DR range will expand again, by another 1000 points.
6. By now, the algorithm may be searching for players between 19000 and 23000 DR and between 94 and 99 SR. The ranges will continue to expand - first +/- 1000 for DR, then +/- 5 for SR - until the field is sufficiently populated.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I'd do so too - even if I do like the motif behind the numbers - but I'm curious as to what you'd do without changing/removing the trophies. Hypothetically, yeah.

I'm not sure about that last one, but I do like the close finish and close lap time ideas, though I recall that the latter idea was already in GT5 and GT6.

So true! When I was racing from the back of the grid (a great learning experience!) I found out a few things. One, since I was trying to stay out of trouble to get my SR up and not get reset, I ended up braking early, and coasting into many corners to keep my space. Funny thing is, because of that I had room to accelerate through the turn and ended up with a lot more speed on the straights. Also, many people push the braking zone too much and end up wide of the apex, so I could hug the inside curb and go by. I was easily making up 8-10 spots by just hanging back, slow in, fast out, and going by when someone screwed up or got sloppy. Many times I would just leave the inside open, lift off the gas early and wait for them to fly by on the brakes, then cut underneath and drive away as they had to lift on exit because they went in too hot. Now I try to pull a @Sven Jurgens a few times a week just to calm myself and remind myself that slow and smooth going in will usually get me up front faster.

It seems so counterintuitive too, but that is so true. I get pretty pumped up at the starting gate, gotta go fast fast fast. But when I settle myself down, I get into a comfortable zone. Nice and smooth. Trying not to look in my rear view mirror.
 
I reckon matchmaking should just be based on your quali times. From 1st place all the way to 16th should not have more than 1 second gap. Sandbag at your own peril, because you might start last and still have to contend with slower/dirtier drivers starting in front of you.

SR/DR works well as a concept, but in reality a 5 point scale isn't granular enough. You'll always have abusers of the system and the numbers are easy to game. And playerbase is always going to be an issue over time. No rating system will work if there isn's enough people playing in the first place!
 
Next race was back to a no stop on Hards(all races have been in the Lambo), finished 4th from 19th with a white C and only a small 3s penalty this time, it was a good clean race, no nonsense. Haven’t seen a single person I know all night though.

Back to SR.C, that race was a mess. I finished 6th after I finally got away from the rammers, SR down to 38. 2 penalties for getting rammed, lag advantage.

@MIE1992 The problem is player count. I've had rooms going from DR.1 to DR.60,000 with SR.E to SR.S all together and the room was not full yet!

Sure, you could lob SR.A and SR.S together instead of going down to DR.D first. Perhaps SR and SR should be tied closer together, ie let the number of DR brackets match the number of SR brackets. Before adding B/S to an A/S and A+/S room, first add A/A and A+/A drivers, then start adding B/S and B/A drivers to fill up any remaining spots. If that doesn't fill it, add A+/B A/B and B/B before adding DR.C.

This does make SR worth a lot less while putting people closer together skill wise. That won't lead to cleaner races as now you have different SR mixes that are closer in pace, leading to more contact.

The other solution is simply have smaller races. However that's not the appeal of sport mode and you can go to lobbies for that.


One solution is better infrastructure between regions and match the regions together. More localized servers with low latency connections in between servers might do the trick.

Don't be afraid to race. You have to anticipate what they are doing. It is pretty easy to see a dirty driver, you just have to know how to handle them. It takes practice! Trust me, I know!
 
Next race I got DQ’d on lap 3, there hasn’t even been much contact tonight compared to most nights. Have they tightened things up? Damm, I was on a good run that time too and penalty free, while the two guys in front of me that hit me the final time to get DQ’d each had over 10s in penalties over their cars. They both hit a wall after bumping each other and I couldn’t avoid them after it happened. :lol:
 
A new record. I've had races with people with 28 sec on the clock, 36 sec, 48 seconds, 52 seconds, and now the winner, a Brazilian crossing the line with 1 minute and 3 seconds of penalties. There should be a trophy for that. He still ended up 14th as the rest got timed out :lol: Yep, I added some to is minute of penalties as he kept blocking with already 37 sec on the clock. -3 SR for me to 35, got rammed again same old. The 22 sec guy left with blue SR....

Disconnected from the race after, apparently before entering the lobby since the stats did not change. That's 3 disconnects now in one day, it's going well.

Last race of the night, starting 15th, DFL. I just putt around to make sure I stayed in last as this is supposed to be a farming mission after getting DQ’d in the last race. I made zero contact with anything, gaining SR the whole time.

Lap 6, without passing a single car I’m now in 10th from people dropping out lol, the two guys in front of me have 23 and 69 second in penalties floating when we cross the line to start lap 7. Mr 69 disappears right after crossing the line and now I’m in 9th going into T1, P8 messes up T1 and there’s a big enough gap enough front I though why not just pass him, you should be good by now lol. So I pass him and end up catching the guy ahead of him by the time I get to the left that lead to the back straight and down to the hair pin, he mess up and I try to slip by on the outside and he ever so slightly grazed my back bumper as I passed and DQ’d again. :lol:

I'm going to try one more, then switch to Elite Dangerous which is a lot less dangerous and more stable than Tokyo rumble. 5 sec to go, will I make it into matchmaking this time. This long wait at 00:00 is more exciting than the race itself....

I made it into the room! Couple 1 bar Argentinians, 1 bar Brazil representing, plenty more yellow connections. This gun be good. The hamster in the server must be getting tired.

Why do people serve penalties right after T2 in lap 1 :banghead: Epic pile up guaranteed. -1 SR to 33, don't even know what for. I had a 1 sec penalty from a laggy car running me into the wall and another 5 sec wall penalty trying to avoid a wall bouncer that was intent on blocking after his screw up. Stop trying to avoid people, it doesn't work! Hit car ahead then hit wall, that's how the game works. Hit wall first trying to avoid then unavoidable bump blocking car anyway is SR Down.

Tonight I entered one race b. I began third. I finished FIRST! It was a fun race, all my last five have been clean in the sr b and I am now a although just...
The races I have done have been very solid driving. The reason I won is after to falling to fourth t1 I was able to quickly take advantage and get to third, and lap 3 second was carrying a pen for track cut and got side by side with first. I ended up getting by as they were so into the battling that they left a door open. Well, actually I passed second when he lifted and first Went deep same lap on a slow turn. I was through and managed to make it stick ftw.
To the second place driver I say this: “Did you not like the jazz music? Was it not pleasure for you?”
