I raced last time in Catalunya in the Manufacturer series and it was nearly impossible to complete a fast lap without penalties.
Even worst when you had to deal with other drivers. Since someone already raced this morning, is it the same in the daily race?
And by the way, while I agree on putting the penalty zone in the daily races as well, in some tracks the zone is positioned in a way that makes you lose way more than the actual penalty...

Thankfully the track limits should be normal...unlike the mess that is Championship track limits (ANYTHING outside the white line is a guaranteed penalty).

This was supposed to be the week I return to sport mode but after seeing the rinsed and repeated race choices again, I won't bother.

Bring on GT7 already PD. You're obviously busier with that than you are with GTS.

Race A will be ruined as soon as people put ASM on

How come? I don't use it and don't miss it, didn't think it had much effect.

Edit: It seems most of the problems with the daily race could be solved by adding another 3 races - more chance of a combo people like, and almost a new race a day for some people who want to do something different each day.

It makes FF cars easier to drive, reduces understeer and therefore makes them faster. The Gr4 Audi really benefitted from it in past combos, although maybe an update changed this but I doubt it.

Happy Monday Everybody! :)

I started with the TT this morning because it’s usually one of my better cars, and tracks, though I’d prefer LMW forward. I’ve got it down to a 1:29.0 so far though, I think I’m slowing down way to much for the hairpin, plus T1 and the 3rd last turn up the hill still have a fair bit of time left in them as well. :)

Excellent Lap @Mistah_MCA !!

Remember when we had a pre-tuned and upgraded Civic (~390hp I think it had) one-make on RH tires like some thought went into making something unique? I'd like to see that effort again someday, PD, especially now since you now have a whole week to come up with these races.

@Gersicer
We battled some today. I was orange and grey. I think we had a little back and forth there between two races...
Nice racing with you. I thought I recognized the handle, but wasn’t sure. I know the first race was a mess, but the second was pretty fun. You may have been behind me as I was running wide at Degner, and raced well and clean when overtaking me also. It was fun.
If I had time I would have stayed on for more action, but it just hasn’t been workin out for me timewise lately.
That first one was a dirty mess overall. I got taken out exiting esses and I think @Sven Jurgens got punted in the hairpin.
@Sven Jurgens if you get bored and have the replay check out my masterful PIT at 130 r midrace. I was the car behind the moron that punted you after getting taken out earlier...I saw red and a green flag shoved me spoon exit. I made him pay...
That race was rough. I eliminated one jerk though and stayed 99.
I wonder also, if people reading about fast drivers doing no qual not might be out for blood when it’s obvious that there’s no qual and the drivers is fast.
Maybe no qual incites folks? Sorry to hear you’ve been having a hard time of late.
That’s why I qual, at least, even if I’m not up front I figure I get to start ahead of some of the problem folks. I saw a few folks towards the end of the field with times reflecting a lack of ability for sure. I’m glad I started ahead of them.
Are you the one I overtook at the hairpin ? Undercut with an outside/inside line ? I am not so good at recognizing people and remembering the different names from those on the forum ;) but yeah, aside from the total mess of T1 (or lap 1 for that matter...) had some good battle yesterday. I did a few races but got tired of being placed 5-6 on the grid and almost certainly end up into the sand at T1.

And I have seen fast people with no Q time coming from the back and, when they get behind you, they kinda expect you to give the right of way .... Now ! Or they push their way through. I won't block intentionally and I'll give space but if you're that fast and that good shouldn't you be able to pass me cleanly ? Anyway .....

If you don't gain positions it does. Depends on your rank and your opponents rank just how many you'd need to gain.

So is it better to post a Q lap time than not? if so there goes plan A for this week.....;)

I'm excited for Race B this week, haven't gotten to race much on Catalunya at all online since it came out and it's one of my favourite tracks in the game. I'm surprised nobody ever wants to race there in lobbies and it doesn't show up very much in the daily races either. (I don't think it's been used since the week it came out?)

Either way, very underrated track and it deserves more of a spotlight.

Depends on if you care about your ratings. It is much easier to gain DR if you have a fast qualifying time and start near the front, as opposed to starting at the back every race. Finishing 5th from starting 2nd will give you the same amount of DR as finishing 5th from starting last (if the opponents finished in the exact same order), how much you get depends on who you beat and who beat you. It's all explained in a thread somewhere.

These videos that you and others put up are really helpful for L Drivers like me. Together with the excellent Circuit Experience videos, they have much to teach. Pity the Circuit Experience doesn't cover all the tracks or variants, and that's where these "fast lap" videos come in.
It would be great to have a thread for them.... hint.... hint....👍

Thank you, I'll find the thread because I don't understand it!! It's not so much I care about ratings (except better ones should get you into less-dirty rooms!) but I would like to see some progress..... having more than 1 DR point for more than 1 day will be progress for me!

Interesting you can get DR for a worse finish than start (at the front end)..... I did race B a while ago, gained 3 places (Yay!) but got zero DR. It's disheartening. Oh... there's no "crying" emoji

I’m glad you find them helpful man, that’s exactly why I share them.

I wish you could do CE for all variants as well, also being able to do them with each class of car would be nice too. :)

Just tried the 86 at Fuji, I had it down to a 2:08.XX until I watched the top time, after seeing how they ran it I got it down to a 2:06.8, there’s still more there to be had, I’m just not loving this combo, it’s been repeated too many times now.

Thanks. They're a great help. Variants and different classes in CE would keep Tom busy!!

The way I understand it, you basically need to finish higher than your car number. The number the game assigns you for each race is based on where your DR ranks in comparison with everyone else.

For example, if you're car #5, then you have the 5th highest DR in the room (assuming SR's are similar- if you're in a room with different SR's, they use some combination of DR and SR to determine all of that somehow). You then need to finish better than 5th to see a boost in DR. Exactly how much DR you gain or lose also depends on how tough the competition is, i.e. if the number 1 player only has a few hundred more DR than you, you won't gain as much by winning the race as if the number 1 player had a few thousand more DR than you. This is all based on observation (both mine and others on this forum) since PD doesn't give any details about this sort of thing.

I am kind of looking forward to the 86 at Fuji. I had a lot of fun with that combo last time.

I am on the wheel now, though. So we'll see what difference that makes. I'll be happy if I get below 2:10 (usual target of being within 2.5s of the top 100. Are we running the tight chicane at the bottom of the hill/slope?

Yup, bascically you need to beat all players with equal or higher DR than yourself to gain from a race, I think 80 points is the gain for beating an equal driver, then it goes either up or down from there depending on how much lower/higher that driver was than you. :)

I'm surprised at the negativity I've seen towards this week's races. Race C is understandable but A and B aren't bad and dare I say it, very fun too.

The Maggiore West II layout is more flowing than last week's Maggiore II so I'm an instant fan of it. I'm not big on the TT Cup but it's an okay choice. At least it's not the Scirocco :yuck:. I've clocked a 1.29:3 and hoping to push to the 28s.

Catalunya is a welcome return although it's a track I need more practice on since we've seen so little of it. I've so far done a few QLs in the Ford GT and hit the high 1.47s with several mistakes so I think I can improve a bit more.

Tap tap...is this thing on? Erm, yeh, so .... I actually did a Sport Mode race tonight. Race B. Whenever anyone mentions Catalunya I think bikes . I went in kicking and screaming with the NSX. I was struggling with T5. It looks like it should be faster than I seem to be able to take it, but anyway... I put in a pretty average lap time, but started P5/16. The reason being a) its the first day of the week... people will get faster, and b) I was on a grid where we were all DR/D except for pole... poor DR/A bugger got stuck with us lot :p.

The race starts and it's all pretty civilised. I was expecting more carnage at T1. I was struggling a bit because the guy at the front was holding everyone else up, so the guy in P2 had to brake early, the guy in P3 had to brake for him and so on down the line. I had a hard time not running into the back of P4 and I think I did give him a few taps. Things were doing ok and I was up to P4 when we got to T5. Unfortunately I messed up TV3 (T7) and ended up in the sand. I lost 3 places getting back on, trying not to re-enter on the racing line .

Head down, bum up and off I went, the chase was on! I discovered that everyone in front of me was also taking T5 a lot slower than I think I should be able to be taken. I passed a couple of wrecks, but on the start/finish strait I was passed by an AMG. There was contact and an orange SR because he hit me as he passed. Why he felt he needed to pass on the side where there was 3/4 of a car width instead of the side with 2 cars widths is a mystery . In the end I finished P6 with a 0.5s penalty. Not a bad place to be :dopey:.

SR up 2, DR up about 450. Not sure if I will race again tonight.

Interesting, I always thought the number on your car only represented the position you need to finish to gain at least some DR. Thanks for the info!

Looks like a boring week. Not having time to race last week bothered my because I was having fun in race C, even though most of my races didn't go very well. I had very few races where I didn't get forced off, with the lap times that go with it. I think my best total time was a 21:20 or so, and my best race lap was a 1:40.2, but I almost never went below 41's in most races. I won one on my alt account as a C driver, SR-B, and had a couple of 3rds on my main account, both hard fought. I never did get into the 38's, though my optimal hit a best of 38.6. BTW, a shout out to my friend, @Groundfish . Nice lap! You really got a handle on that combo. We should be in the Yota version on Catalunya IMHO!
This week my lack of race time won't be so bad. Not only do we have Fuji again, but a C race with a Toyota 86? Do we need to pit? do we have tire choices? It's gonna be a huge drop from last week's combo. Due to my lack of time lately, I'll probably race B mostly, though I'll give the others a shot. Sometimes the production car races are really good if people aren't dirty.

It could be worst Sambabus at Route X ;) :p
