I decided to try Race C, only to learn the best way to win is to run a no-stopper. I finished P5 with a M6 GT3 and it was fun seeing Sven in a 650S this time around.

Yes, no stops is the only way. I've done it on each of my races so far in the McLaren F1. Kept it on max power and shifted early to save fuel. I'd say not stopping gets me about 3 places each time.

The other thing I appreciate is, because I'm conserving fuel it makes me drive smoothly, avoid over-braking, and generally just hang back and stay out of trouble. I don't need to cane it and try to overtake every other driver who's jostling for position, just think, "I'll fly past when you stop for fuel." But what's really surprising is how often I find it's easy to keep up with drivers in front who ARE giving it the full monty.

The McLaren is a hoot at the 'ring. It feels quite light on its feet compared to the 911 RSR, my normal go-to Group 3 ride. But it has an uncanny ability to yaw its body position using the throttle, which can come in really handy.

Are there any cars that will do the full two laps without a fuel stop and at full blast??
 
Jumped into a race C yesterday in the Aston, only had about 5 minutes before matching, so didn't manage a full quali lap, but drove round anyway to get my eye in. Never used to do sport mode at the ring, but when I got a wheel I spent a fair amount of time golding the circuit experience there and the 4 lap mission race there and gained a lot more confidence with it.

Started 14th, only the top 8 had lap times, and made up a place at T1 as someone had gone off, then at T4 I got hit from behind into the car in front who hit the next one in front who went off, and this gave me a 4s penalty. Was running FM3 for no-stop, tried to give a faster car some room around kottenborn, but got bumped off anyway, rejoined carefully, but got hit from behind before I was fully up to speed, presumably that car went off as I got another 3s onto my penalty. Smooth running for the rest of lap 1, 7s of penalty was a bit frustrating though.

Made up a few places as people pitted, and was running in 10th until the stretch around kesselchen, caught a Mustang who seemed to move over, but we touched as I passed, putting me on the grass and along the wall. Rejoined just before mutkurve, and tried to stay wide as others were coming through fast, but one of them clipped me, putting me off again, and giving him a 2s penalty although he also span off. Got going again, and caught up with the Mustang again, with a Beetle right up behind him this time. Tried to hang back little, but also put a bit of pressure on, but another Mustang caught up, and gave me a couple of bumps. I let him past, half hoping he'd take out the other two, the first Mustang got a bit out of shape, then the Beetle and the bumping Mustang went into Schwalbenschwanz side by side, with the Beetle losing out and getting a slow exit so I was past into the mini karussel, but then made a complete mess of the exit, slid out and slammed into the wall head on, getting a 5s penalty. Lost some places and then spun again on the next corner pushing too hard. Served my penalty and passed a couple of others on the straight who'd completely stopped, and got timed out in I think 13th.

Enjoyed the race, surprisingly clean for the most part, dropped 555 DR, and down to 92 SR from 99, but think I'll give it another couple of goes.
 
I think i just found a new favourite Gr. 4 car for Suzuka, a track i really like a lot. It's a car i never drove before. My best laptime ever over there was a 2.09.1. That was almost a year a go, with the Citroen GT. Since then i never got it under 2.09.9, that was with the TT. Now, i did a 2.10.075 with the TT and a 2.10.129 with the M4. ...Guess wat??? I just shaved 7 tenths off and got it to a 2.09.335...Happy me;) !!!

P.s.: Anybody a guess wich car it is

I think i just found a new favourite Gr. 4 car for Suzuka, a track i really like a lot. It's a car i never drove before. My best laptime ever over there was a 2.09.1. That was almost a year a go, with the Citroen GT. Since then i never got it under 2.09.9, that was with the TT. Now, i did a 2.10.075 with the TT and a 2.10.129 with the M4. ...Guess wat??? I just shaved 7 tenths off and got it to a 2.09.335...Happy me;) !!!

P.s.: Anybody a guess wich car it is

Decided to jump in at Suzuka with a poor 2.11.8 qualy time, started 8th, the scirocco is not a good race car at Suzuka, just not got the high end speed.

Start 8th First lap, someone out-brakes himself from 2 cars back, flies past the car behind me, hits me, spins me, 3 other cars then hit me as I'm bouncing around the hairpin, I am sat dead last facing the wrong way in the middle of the track when I get a 4 second penalty, I have watched the replay about 20 times, and cannot see where I did anything wrong, I was hit and then was a passenger for the next few seconds as other cars hit me. Depressing.

Went back to quali laps, down to mid 2.10's now, am not going racing again until I am in the 2.09's

I am also having serious problems recreating my performance with FF cars with anything FR or MR, has to be down to drving style, but cannot get even within 2 seconds of my Scirocco time with the RC F.

That sounds like AT is really hurting you. On FM1 with short shifting in the 'vette the race timed out just after Antoniusbuche. I still had 0.3 laps of fuel left and I had some major offs with a lot of dirty tyre and lower gears getting back onto the track. Keep it on the track and a no stop should be a doddle. On the fast sections in high gear at low revs I was reeling them in. But tonight is another night, and so another car :dopey:.

Yes it is... I can only make it running fm4 the full race... Can have a sub 8.20 qualifing time (8.22 atm) but will not win because of fuelsaving :) And I have never driven manual with controller since gt1 ;) which car is the best with fuel in gr3?

Flu seems to have lifted enough for some gaming. So, hopefully I'll be jumping in the NSX for some laps at Suzuka after work.

I would run the NSX at Nurburgring, too. But, we'll leave that for another day or two.

What was your fuel saving method in the Corvette? I drove it yesterday, found I have to really cruise to go no stop... Also got punted of the track in Aremberg, dropped from 4th place to 16th and got a penalty on top.

Short shift as soon right after the bar starts showing. I had no one to draft and it made it in 17:02 total time. 8:29 best lap, 6 sec slower than when I drove it in qualifying.

I'm in a bad place now, qualified with the M3 at 8:21 which now puts me on pole each time to get rammed in T1 or shortly after to either negate the clean race bonus I'm trying to get and/or give me an unfair penalty on top. Even if the penalty system works I get send into the sand then fall down into the chaos.

I've been quitting the races out of frustration and playing against the AI instead or qualifying. Due to not finishing the disaster races my SR is down to 15 (could have been worse actually trying to race those races to completion...) with no clue how to get out. I can't erase the time and I can't out run the T1 idiots. It seems the only option is to pull over and let everyone pass at the start. The penalty system simply fails this combo. You try to fuel save and the horde of pit stoppers simply run everyone off the road that is a bit slower om lap 1. No attempt to pass, just bump cars until they go off. Absorbing the first blows then go full out with a pit stop might work to restore some SR but for now I'll take a break. Well done PD for the horrible combo, it's bringing out all the flaws in the penalty system. Bump from behind, run into a wall, penalty, over and over.
 
How...HOW did PD not consider that trailing cars need to be more responsible for accidents than leading cars? I get that they want to avoid brake checks, but IMHO, they have done a VERY sloppy job of detecting it.

On the upside, through frustration, I threw caution to the wind and went with my Q car for the next race, the Huracan! I was surprised by it's pace. First race so far to finish under 17 minutes (16:55). First ever Huracan win for me at the Nurburgring!!

If you stay to the right of the track, so that the only place to pass on the right is grass, most people will take the left. The track kinks to the right just after pit exit, that's the brake point. Most times, you can defend from there as well because the drivers going to the left have to miss the apex (because you'll be parked on it) and you can get into, and out of, turn 2 cleanly.

Sorry to stupidly ask again... You mean the bar in the virtual display? So you are shifting as soon as you can see anything there?
I run cockpit and shifted in the Corvette on the first yellow LED, but that's not enough to go no-stop on FM1, so I went to FM3 and then FM5-6. I'm amazed that you are still so quick with that kind of shortshifting.

Did that, I either got hit from behind while braking, or when turning. Then there's plenty more corners to get hit before reaching the Nord section. Surviving without getting SR Down seems impossible, and even when I avoid all that I have to evaded at corner exit where the track limit for clean race is very strict. I'll just have to give up on racing for the clean race bonus... It's just ridiculous you get SR Down for braking on time or wanting to stay inside track limits. Drivers to the left do not miss the apex because I'm on it :lol: It's the same as Bathurst, once you get a few unfair penalties and get dumped out of SR.S it just gets worse and worse.

The penalty system, drivers that don't care, fuel saving vs one lap derby etc. One of the races I completed (after getting rammed into the sand in T1 without getting a penalty finally) I was following a train of cars all with penalties, all the way up to over 10 sec. Then half of them simply quit when reaching the penalty zone, the others served then pitted. 2 no stops got away, with red dots and red SR to finish one and two. I managed a blue B, no penalty, yet also no clean race bonus as I had to step outside the lines once to avoid the chaos. The chaos train had held me up so much there was no catching up.

I'll give the Huracan a try, if I feel like racing again. For now I've had my fill and rather race the AI in an under powered car for some good battles. Sprint away and pit seems the only option. Perhaps sprint away in the first section, then do a lot of fuel saving later, as the one race I got away cleanly I won while almost a minute ahead lol. The stuff I have seen in SR.A and lower, it makes you reach for the quit option after getting punted as you do not want to drive in that.

Yep. Actually the Corvette can shift a little later than the 650S. In the Vette I could shift just under half the bar for most of the track. The other thing I do is stay in a higher gear in most corners. Smooth driving, keep the speed as constant as possible, instead of extra braking for a tight apex, smooth it out for a longer sweeping corner. I keep the FM map display up to see how I'm doing trying to aim for 50% at the end of lap 1 and have about 8% left when entering the straight to go flat out there. 1% left is enough to accelerate out to the finish.
 
Racing Daily B yesterday at Suzuka helped me pick up over 10,000 DR. I was down to 47k after a bad weekend scenario, now up at 58k :) The Lexus is really good, i have a 2:08.2 optimal but could only get a 2:08.555 together. Raced against @putput44 who has a 2:07.4 ???? just insanity lol.

The mustang is also pretty solid here, more stable than the Lexus but for me I could only squeeze a 2:08.8 from it.

Quick crappy report. Green hell. M6. Slicker'n'snot. P8 to P18 after getting rammed from behind at T1 and spun. Back up to P8 on final lap after a no stop. Slid off at Wippermann. Tyres shredded. Pinballed down the hill. 5s penalty. Finished P15. SR up 2, DR down 700. Last day as DR/C probably. Never felt in control of M6. End of line.
 
No racing this morning. I did 3 practice laps at Lemans, in the LM55 with Hard tires. I'm about 4 seconds slower that I was in the February Gr.1 race. I'm hoping that one was a Medium tire race, otherwise my car is broken.

The last couple days, I've been working on a new type of livery that I haven't attempted to do yet (barn find). Stupidly, I chose a car that probably will never be usable in a daily race. So time consuming. I think I'm up to about 90-100 layers and 4 hours of time, so far. I've probably got at least a few more hours to go. There's probably a faster way of doing it, but I'm a livery novice. :drool: Learning as I go.
