I guess I'm going to do race C. I lost it last race, so tired of getting penalties from other people losing control. Matchmaking has been terrible this evening. I'm down to SR.B now. Some days the penalty system takes all the fun out of racing and those penalty zones only make it worse. Slowed traffic in the most tricky high speed corners on the track, brilliant idea PD. I should just give up racing in the evenings!

I do watch learning videos, mistah_mca, kie25, david perel, anything else I can find forma track guide and try to put things together. Practiced a bit more today and knocked my lap down to 2:34.5, right next to you @SeeGeeAitch on the leaderboard. And somehow got my matchmaking wish. 2 races where I wasn't behind A+ drivers, first with lots of Bs and a couple As, still starting 10th, but worked up to 3rd after opening lap trouble. Held on to only drop to sixth aftr faster players caught up and I slid a few turns but reasonably happy with the race, it was clean, good passing, no bumps and barges up our end.

Second race I was one of the aliens. Started 3rd and only a tenth behind polesitter, 1.5 sec gap between me and number 4. Start great, line up a pass for the lead and as I go through the guys behind crash, inside position clipping my fender as he spins, I don't even notice until I have a penalty pop up.:banghead: Build up 1 sec lead in half a lap but after penalty down into 6th. Manage to claw back up to third, but should have won. Who ended up 4th and 5th each cost me an extra lap as they both brake checked me to screw my passing, 1 parking it on the apex of 130r aft I backed off on the straight to ensure we were both through clean and I could have a shot at casio. Oh well. Still had a great shot at win but bottled spoon (AGAIn?!!??) on lap 7 while lining up a shot down the back straight. At least there was a result and solid racing rather than me lappingall alone at the back.

I hope not - just about to leave work early to go home and race!

Time is local....

Dang.. im yet to break in to 51s. :guilty::lol:

At this point - or last night when I shut my ps4, I was EMEA #45 at 1:52.263. Trailing my own ghost by a car lenght until last shikane so 1:51 is there to be taken..

The fact i was able to keep TRL_ADAM18 on my sight the whole lap felt like a win..👍

Funny thing is, that even with that #45 emea quali i wont get any poles or wins as im matched with 1-3 a+/s 1:51 even though i just barely came back to DR A..:indiff:

the DR loss for getting disconnected is way too great , i lost over 4000DR and my A+ rank for being booted ONE SINGLE TIME

Yeah, but then people would just quit every unfavourable Lobby if it wasn’t that large. Then we’d have bigger issues, you’d never get a full race cause people would just quit every time they didn’t like the room just to save their points.

Another semi- crappy night for the Adidas team. I improved my time to 1:34.9 in race B

In one race at the first chicane after going downhill, someone didn’t like the brush overtake on his left. No one crashed. He tried to take me out at the left hander but failed miserably as I was still braking lol.

Another race I was in 3rd. The race was just starting. 1st and 2nd was already getting into it and I was catching up to join. About to go downhill and on the racing line far right. 4th place decided hey...there’s a slim spot on my right...lets speed up and go off track...he freaking hits me and I lost control and couldn’t recover...it was only the first 🤬 lap!

During that race I was just ranting and contemplating if I should do another race.

Well I did do another one, got pole and well...

So I guess playing while frustrated is the way to go lol. I even killed it on the last lap getting a 1:34.7

So I've been meaning to ask this for years.

Given that all Dr and Sr levels remain the same for say, 10 races in a row, can someone please finally explain to my small mind why I'm continually being put in faster and faster lobbies as my qualifying time comes down each time?

Stay with me here - its not quite as dumb a question as it first sounds.

For example, I qualify, for argument's sake, somewhere in the 5th to 10th place with my lap time for a handful of races. The dude at the top is about a second a lap (sometimes more) faster.

I go away and improve my qualifying time by a second and instead of placing me at the front of the grid from then on I get plumped in with even faster drivers and I'm in the same old 5th to 10th place as I was before. All this happening while racing against the same Dr and Sr groups.

I must be missing something here.

Send help.

Mind you, I'm no expert in computers and programming stuff but shouldn't the game be easily able to make the difference if you click on "quit" or if it's connection related ?

Happened to me a couple of times also ..... Hard for the motivation when you don't have that much time on your hand to race and gather points.

It probably could, but how does the game know if you’ve pulled the Power/Ethernet cable out of your PS4 the minute the race Lobby shows up or if you were honestly disconnected? That’s what people were doing before and why the rule was put in in the first place unfortunately. :)

Welcome to matchmaking hell my friend, welcome.

Whilst I don't claim to know all the ins and outs of the algorithm, if any, the one thing you can't account for is who is online and wanting to race at the same time as you.

Yes, matchmaking is shocking. I won't defend it.

But, there's no guarantee that the people you were originally slower than, but are now faster than, are online to be matched with on the next race you enter.

Nor do you know how many of them have gone away and set new times themselves.

So whilst the algorithm is junk, writing one that works effectively with soooo many fluid variables is just mindboggling.

Frustrating, I know. I empathise 100%.

Didn't think of it that way. Hard to argue with that one. As you say .... unfortunately .

You can already quit if you don't like the room, you just have to do it before entering the lobby during matchmaking. Simply suspending gts (by choosing to trim a video clip for example) will exit you from matchmaking without any point loss.

Only once you have entered the lobby, you will have wagered your DR points and suffer -5 SR for a disconnect or exit.

And if you disconnect after crossing the finish before re-entering the lobby you still lose 5 SR and are counted as DNF, i.e. lose tons of DR. However getting disconnected or quitting usually preserves your clean streak. So many things don't make sense!

I tried race B this morning, got SR Down from a draft bumper, the same bumper bumped me off in the hairpin, didn't get a penalty. So much for that. BS penalties on Tokyo, or getting bumped out of the way on Yamigawa, or fall asleep on Suzuka, take your pick!

Suzuka actually went quite well for me last night, 11 positions gained. No clean race bonus though since draft bumping happens there as well. Race A and B are too short, yet race C, yawn fest in the last couple laps. This car is so slow I'm thinking can I brake yet for the hairpin, how about now, nope still too soon

Having another bad start today.... first race was decent cept for a 5sec wall touch penalty. But the second was another one of those that makes me question everything i think i know lol great race through three laps, for second, the one and only turismo-lester was in that race so, yeah.... anyway on the last lap i lost it coming off the last of the esses atop the hill down to the hairpin, gotten loose there but first time i have lost it. Was close to saving it but i could not. Barely missed a competitor as i spun around a few times bouncing off the wall and coming to a near complete stop. 15, 15 seconds in wall colision penalties. I knkw it's hard to program for this kinda thing but i feel like incidents like that should be easy to detect.... another bad day at the track perhaps? Loading race 3 now, hope it goes better

Why getting SR down from draft bumping when you are going full throttle / clearly not brake checking or anything stupid thing? Or "don't ask, it's just another interesting GTS penalty?"

The latter.

It’s all the lovely bs from the penalty system, etc.

You definitely can. I've done it a couple of times in a row, when I wanted to race Sven, but otherwise didn't really care for the race.
When the lobby pops up, showing the players in the race lineup, that's when you can pull the plug on your internet cable. As soon as it goes to the screen where you're allowed to warm up and start chatting, it's too late. But you usually have about 20-30 seconds to view the lineup and quit without consequences. 👍

In regards to matchmaking, it's a bit weird sometimes but TBH i think it's pretty good. I agree that you can improve your time and just get lumped in with faster guys so remain static in terms of grid position but there are a lot of variables.

Enjoyed Yamagiwa last night, decent racing. There's a bit of carnage but you can kind of see it coming and avoid it. TBH the track is similar to many in the game where there are no clear passing zones so you are waiting for errors or guys to whack each other.

Here's a pretty good one from last night where i managed to work my way through the crowd without getting too involved.

And here's a bonus from last week, this is a slow burn but thought we raced REALLY fair and it felt like proper motorsport.

But once you see the players you’re up against in the race you can’t quit in any way without losing DR points though right?

You see the players already when it says loading track / waiting for other players. During that time you can still quit (by suspending GTS, closing GTS or signing out of PSN) without any point loss. SR and DR stay intact. Any disconnect before entering the lobby doesn't cost you anything and you also don't gain DR from people that don't make it into the lobby. Yet if you disconnect 1 second after entering the lobby, then you lose SR and DR.

Suspending GTS is the easiest, all you have to do is select trim video on a recorded clip. I've done it by accident thinking I could edit a video during matchmaking, also don't edit a video before you're back in the lobby. Selecting trim on a video clip after finishing yet before getting back in the lobby will count you as DNF!

Why getting SR down from draft bumping when you are going full throttle / clearly not brake checking or anything stupid thing? Or "don't ask, it's just another interesting GTS penalty?"

The theory is that you get penalized when gaining an advantage. Since the bumpee gets a little speed boost while the bumper loses a bit, the bumpee gets SR Down. This also leads to the one staying in control usually ending up with a penalty when there is contact.

I ask again, why is the BoP turned on? It's a one-make race. And the BoP seriously NERFS that car.
