I think just about everybody can relate to this. You're on pace to set your personal best lap time, and then on the last possible turn....... :banghead:



It wasn't gonna be a great time, in terms of the rankings, but whether you're fast or slow, it will happen to you too (some of us more than others). :lol::lol::lol:

I just ran a race C and fought over 4 laps with a Peugeot VGT, me in a Corvette. He would fly by me on the straight, I would hook into the slipstream and then pass him at T2 when he grased the wall every time. Then build a gap through the sweepers for 3 seconds or so, then he would catch me at the end and be right behind me in the final turn.
Eventually he got so frustrated with me and my slower car that he tried to push me aside coming out of the hairpin. I let him, grased the wall that he pushed me to and he got 3 seconds penalty. Then he fell apart and caught 2x5 more, because when I accelerated out of the hairpin he came towards it with 13 seconds.

Psychological/pressure thing. It's in your head that you're on your fastest lap then you somehow end up making a basic error somewhere. It's definitely happened to me.

I can't seem to break 2:14 there (results in me starting 14 - 16th on the grid :O). I refuse to use the Megane.

Well I'll be damned. I've done some races with you. I believe I saw you a few times at the most recent Lemans race. I was probably using my RPMcMurphy01 account. Of course I don't remember everybody in my races, but your name is a memorable one.

Ha ha. That's what I was going for with that nick. Memorable. :) Yeah, I did Le Mans quite a lot. I like that track and I'm somewhat competitive there. I actually remember you. I almost wrote "That you, Sturk?" before one of the races, but I wasn't completely sure so I didn't. But I knew I had seen that nick somewhere. It's your alter ego, man. Now I know for sure. 👍 I'm going to do a couple of Tokyo races tonight (it's 7 PM now) and maybe even Bathurst (I love that track but 3 laps is a joke), so maybe I'll see you there? But I'm going to be drinking beer (it's friday) so I'm definitely not going to be on my A game for long. :lol:
 
I spent the last two days racing in the rain to a total of 1100 km.

I was up for a big challenge.
- I pretty much never race at Tokyo, because Tokyo
- First race online in the rain.
- I even got my wheel out of the closet.

So I choose to go full Sven and did not put a QT. I didn't want to be in the way of fast people with my limited skill with the wheel, rain and Tokyo.

I choose a car I feel good with, the AMG GT3.

It was a blast! So much fun. Starting from the back is rewarding. You just need to avoid first lap chaos and then try to be consistent.

Half of my race I manage top5 and the other half top 10. Only 5 races without penality. My SR is still S somehow!

Race alot with @Sven Jurgens always changing cars while I used the same one for two days. What's your feeling with the AMG? I used it because I feel comfortable in it. Didn't really care about the Ford or McLaren. They are unstable and only fast in straight line. So many people using it but can't really cope with them.

I just spent about 15 minutes lapping St. Croix B to get reacquainted with the track before next week's races. What a nice track! It's plenty wide, and the scenery is nice, too. 👍 It's a pretty fast track, but has a couple of corners that are deceptive, as to how sharp they are.
I was using the AMG, with next week's settings, and I was @ 2:12. The problem is that the race is scheduled for 3 laps. :crazy:
So, it's gonna be another 7 minute race B. :confused: smh

I did this yesterday. The 4th FIA race I ever did was at that track, and I got a win in the GT-R. My best lap from that was 2:12.4. I know there have been physics changes since then, but factor in the amount of fuel in the car and tyre wear, it's nice to know my dipping into the 2:10s after 5 laps yesterday represents some progress.

I tried a bunch of different cars, this morning. I'm not particularly fast on that track, but the only one that got me under 2:14 was the WRX. It's not the fastest, but it handles the turns up on the mountain remarkably well. 👍

Great racing with you! The AMG is very stable, goes nicely through the sweeping corners. It loses on the straights though. An AMG did just win from pole with 2:13 laps, however I've seen the same guy easily do 2:12 laps with the Ford. From the back it's not the most useful since you get slowed down in the second half catching up too early, then lack acceleration to catch those Fords sprinting away out of the hairpin.

I finished compiling my list of all GR.3 cars in the rain :)

Some of it comes down to better draft opportunities but the order is largely correct. Ford near the top, Atenza at the bottom. I'm currently trying to get a victory with the Ford but so far no luck. There's either an alien on pole, or doing last to first like me, or I meet one of those lovely angry drivers along the way.

The one that escapes proved a little too fast for me, never caught up.

So true, I did 10 laps last night in the R8 and although I can still shave some good time out of my lap, oh man, the track has such a nice flow when you get it right, that R8 feels on rails!

Try the Jag. I did 2:12.2 with it the last time this combo was on. I think it was June. It's a little heavier so you need to brake a bit earlier. But it has a lot of power and is stable through the downhill section.

It's pretty rare, I've had the yellow flag penalty about 5 times in 8,000 races.

Last time it happened (before this one) was at Autopolis where 3 of us got it when the yellow flag of a previous incident was still up while a car in front of us went wide and spun out. I've had it as well at Bathurst where a yellow flag from 2 corners ahead gave me 3 sec for completing my pass I had already started. And a few times at N24. That first sharp right left turn always has the yellow flag up and the position indicator usually switches around through those 2 corners. Yet getting it from a car serving a penalty is a first for me as well.

What happened to you in the 2.30pm race today? I was waiting for you to come blasting past me, but you never showed up.
 
Chase cam here, no reason other than that Im a car nut and like to see my car.
I do like hood and cockpit but just wish we could adjust position and FOV so that it suits our preferences. As well as a virtual mirror in any view and maybe even customizable HUD??
Definately gonna get Psvr2 for ps5 as long as the resolution is at least 2k @120hz and Ill be all over cockpit view in gt7.
Also love the maclaren F1 and open wheel cars in that view as it is atleast somewhat close to usable.

@Pigems Im also down with Friday Knights Crew (FKC) so we can all do Fia races as well. (dunno about tonight tho as its the gfs bday tomorrow)

Glad you posted this, I thought I was going mad (well, madder than what I was born with)...

Didn't happen every race, but definately did happen. Took a few times before I really noticed it, first few time(s) I thought it was weird wheelspin, but after quite a few I realised it was more than just wheelspin.

Had that happen once or twice myself. Definitely not a TCS bug as Super GT had the same in one of his races with TCS off. I just feather the gas a bit as I go around there so often kick past it somehow but have had it pull that stall if I just floor it and try to let the TCS do the work.

I might have been going super tryhard, especially after I saw Deafsun post a low 2:10 (and now high 2:09 at the time of this posting).

E: While I'm nowhere as fast as that guy, I dream that I can be one day. It's just my dumb-butt that thought it'd be a brilliant idea to try to get close to his time on an impossible combo like this and go insane in the process. :lol:

You're lucky you have a proper rig setup. It's too easy to throw the DS4 across the room when messing up the same corner time and time again (and that's me in the dry) :lol:

Aye, I can't imagine how much harder it is to get the lap right on the DS4. Y'all are the true warriors.
I'm surprised I didn't beat up my wheel after messing up so many times on this combo. It was more frustrating than some of the Time Trials on Nordschleife/24h and Tokyo Expressway South Inner Loop.

Day 1 of my meme account's (mis)adventures in the hellscape of the lower SR lobbies.

Yesterday, a couple of incidents and an ensuing retirement knocked me all the way down to C/E rating. Seeing as C/E and D/E share a lobby, I was now officially in the shadow realm, the deepest depths of hell.

Right off the bat, the Belgian sitting on pole in my first race took to calling me pathetic and a "sheater" (sic) because I used the Mégane. The race itself was forgettable (I don't even remember where I finished). After the race he continued to call me names in broken English and told me that I "dond know inglish" when I said I didn't understand. Okay then. :odd:

Second race, he's starting 5th and I'm last as always. He immediately parks it on the S/F straight to drop right behind me :boggled: I assume he wanted to punt me, but he was beaten to the punch :lol: A German in a black Mégane and I overtook an Austrian down the Conrod straight (who apparently didn't get the memo and used the Mégane Trophy instead of the FF one :lol:), which didn't sit too well with him, so just as I was making a move on the German in the braking zone, he went into the back of me full throttle and punted me to Narnia. The Belgian wasn't far behind and T-boned me as I came back to the track, which earned me a track reset and a penalty for my efforts. :lol:

The third race went much better. I successfully made it through the backfield and midfield and was closely following P2 and P3 in a Jag and Mégane. They went wide in the final chicane. I went clean around the outside of the Mégane and had a great run on the Jag, but he was having none of it and brake checked me, so the Mégane driver assumed P3 again. :grumpy:

I'm up to C/C, as despite the plethora of incidents the SR bonus is quite big. That's not to say I didn't see any red Es though :p It's a good thing I'm on my alt account, because if I were taking this seriously, my TV would definitely have a controller-shaped hole in it by now :lol:

This is what i was referring to the other day ref. the GT. It seems to effectively dip the clutch and then not re-engage until throttle input gets larger. So there you are trying to be light on the throttle and the car just coasts and loses speed. You have to be more aggressive with the throttle and deal with the consequences. Using 1st gear helps.

It's the first time I really noticed something was very off, but now I think about it, I've had more stalls in that corner. Never this bad, but definitely very variable outcome (sometimes) with the same line and inputs.

Finally, 2nd clean race bonus this week! The Ford GT delivers. And no stalls, all good.

That’s been a thing for a long time now in GTS, it seems as if you have to hit the gas XX% or more to get the car to engage the gears, otherwise it just slips into neutral and revs up. :)

I haven't used the Ford GT, I started with the M3's, then went to the RCZ, Porsche and something else, can't remember, definately not the Ford though.

I wondered whether it was something to do with the white line, it seemed to happen when I was crossing (cutting) it, so I gave it a wide berth and straightened up before giving it some welly and it didn't happen after that.

I changed my exit from the corner and took a wide line in, straightened up as early as poss, shifted to 2nd and gave it full throttle.

The Porsche got such a long 2nd gear it wouldn't start spinning until the left hand kink...so full throttle was OK..

Think explains why it didn't happen after I changed the exit...
