Really happy with my week at Spa, after the crap show that was Tokyo in the rain 3 weeks back, where I went from A/S to B/D in 2 races, I needed some good races, and results under my belt.... Now back to A/S again!

Back in the big time, had 3 great races today, Had a 7th place finish from 20th on the grid, followed by a 3rd and 4th from 8th both times, after getting some qualy laps in, and doing a 2:18.8 again. Pleased with that! :)

A couple of moments from today's racing for me. :)

A pity this is already coming to an end, Here's hoping for something equally fun next week for Race C! :D

@sturk0167

THANKS! CAR IS AWESOME! I love it.
So, anyways, in its debut, I was behind clearly an educated cultured r8 driver who is skilled and clean...Unfortunately for him he cleanly passed on of our beloved South American participants, and after doing so said individual gave him a chicane punt.
Unbeknownst to our friend from ‘down under’ who cheated to gain advantage, I just so happened to be in position to make things right.
I dunno what cane over me. I just hate to see good driving get treated like that. I mean my most often used rod is a 5wt but anyhow...us anglers need to stick together, and I have raced him before and he races clean so...Granadier ran a good one, didn’t see what happened up front there, but I have raced that fella before and he’s a mixed bag, I couldn’t trust him...

What an auspicious debut!

Ford GT clean bonus not happening right now. It needs to brake earlier, means SR Down. Last race I got run off 4 times in a row from 4th to 7th. The Ford GT is apparently a great car to use as a guide rail for making the corner. -3 SR from all the SR Down taps received.

Ah, next race starting lucky nr 20. Now if there is not a huge crash at the start my chances just increased by 1000%. The Ford is really tight on fuel as well, no margin for evasive manoevers.

Doh, messed that one up myself. I nicked a blade of grass on the way to the chicane with no one around. Moment of inattention, instant spin.

I was watching football, but it's a lousy game. I'll jump into the next race. My SR is at 85. Not sure I'll see you.

Tonight was a great race, followed by good race until the end, followed by a horrific race.

Is the matchmaking system geared towards making it more difficult to rank up than to get close to ranking up? This is the second time I’ve been right on the cusp of A rank when my door numbers become consistently 5 or less. Meaning any slip up and you’re screwed. Go 1k away from ranking up though and matchmaking will put me in lobbies with S, A+, and A ranks with a number of 10+.

Last time this happened it took me like 10 podiums in a night before it gave me A rank. Since each top 3 finish would give me like 80 DR only. It’s like they want to keep you in the bracket.

It'll depend on the actual DR scores of the other drivers, not their rank. This will depend on time of day. When it's busy, matchmaking will put you in races with lots of drivers close to your score which means not much DR to be gained.

When it's quiet, matchmaking starts with the highest score drivers (of equal SR) and keeps adding lower scores until the room is full or there are no more drivers available. This means your high B will be used to fill rooms that started at A+ or high A and give opportunity for much bigger DR gains if you finish ahead of any of them.

It also gives opportunity for much bigger DR losses if you mess up and any of the C / D drivers at the back of the grid finish ahead of you  :p:

This is how it normally works, yes. What I’m wondering is if being near a rank up changes the way matchmaking places you compared to normal.
Based on observation it seems like it does.

My observations suggest that if I'm near dropping a rank matchmaking puts me in rooms full of amateur drivers who use my car as a braking marker or dirty drivers .... not sure this is a valid indicator though :irked: ;) :p
Seriously, I think it's just a coincidence that there are lots of drivers in your score range at the times you're approaching that rank boundary.

Nah it's just in your head  I've crossed the boundaries so many times, it all depends on number participants which depends on time of day and popularity of the track. A slight drop in SR (<90) can make a huge difference yet at max SR.S it simply depends on when the room is full and the next one is created.

I was tracking my DR last week on N24. During morning / afternoon matchmaking I would gain a lot of DR. During prime time a lot less or lose some.

DR.B is a big range, 20K to 40K. One DR.B driver might only give you 40 points when you're close to DR.A while a low B finishing ahead of you can cost you 120 points.

That’s probably it then, try doing the same with ABS on default, I feel like they’ve made braking more important over the last couple of updates. :)
i

My opinion is if you look the game tells you under default abs some grip will be allocated for turning at all times. So abs weak Or off gives more braking force available. I run abs weak on a lot of cars, and I have played a guy in a daily running off in gr3.....I run a lot of replays...
Like for me the 86...I liked weak. I’ve noticed last several updates more separation between the two abs weak and default. The huge advantage to default is turning in under heavy braking the fronts won’t lock as easily imo. However, it seems to me on many cars weak gives much more stopping power and if you do it right gives advantage...I go back and forth a lot on this and it’s important to me as a one foot driver...
Lately I have been running more default since to me they made abs weak less easy recently, but that’s my opinion.
Abs default is a solid choice, but I do think it’s possible to stop much better and more control with weak, the problem turns into slipstream and tracks with certain turns where laptime is Very trail brake dependent and going quick locking fronts could be an off.
Abs default would be the safe choice in race imo. But take like the Mcclaren gr4 also I found that car as well as a couple gr3 that really shined with weak...
It’s hard to keep up on all the cars as the game evolves and gets better...
I still say overall default is the solid choice, but a person may run across certain cars where weak is a massive improvement. It’s worth trying.
Oh, or for certain vintage cars or certain others...abs stinks altogether turn it off imo,
I’ll never be the hot shoe king or anything but there are definitely differences between settings and it’s worth playing with in a serious event.
Weak can give better control over some cars balance while turning in imo, but can you do it perfectly every time? That’s the q.
D fault is a consistent method and tried and true.
I dunno, all I know is an update or two ago it changed and I had to go to default more...I think abs weak gave even more control, but maybe I can’t handle it as well.
I think all this stuff needs to be tested IN RACE per car and who has time. More control and feel over a lap in qual doesn’t always translate to in race.
It’s definitely evolving though...

Thanks, now I have to accept all of this failure as my own fault instead of getting to blame it on the system. :indiff:

You can always do what @Invisigoth and I do: Blame it on our friend @sturk0167 :D we love you sturk, please no punterino.

Indeed. @sturk0167 is surely the source of all calamity and misfortune in the GTS world. The grim reaper of the GT planet family. The releaser of all that escaped Pandora's box. The Harbinger of Doom. The Four Horsemen all rolled into one. The 10 Plagues of Egypt. The........(yeh... i'm gunna pay for this tomorrow :scared:).

Wow!!! Thanks to everyone who mentioned the citroen, I swore I couldn't drive it but after a couple of laps practicing my short shifting I knocked more than a second off my qualifying time I set going balls out on the 911. Would have been more had I not lost over half a second on a flubbed line through the right left near the end of the track. It takes a bit more diligence short shifting to make a no stop than th Porsche but way faster. As in i was pulling race laps faster than my 911 qualifying time.

All that aside you still have to drive it. Got from 14th at start to coming home 5th. Decide to pull back and take it easy last few turns as I am 1 sec behind 4 and 2 up on 6. Want to consolidate my good finish so I feather the throttle through blanchimon when I have been taking it flat all night. Result is I slip the outside curb, spin, hit nothing. Have to wait 4 sec for reset when.turning around and finish 11th. :banghead::banghead::banghead::dunce:

Still a positive though I guess. Could have actually earned some DR instead of donating but oh well. That citroen is a beast.

@Pigems why do i feel slower with abs full when everybody says its faster? i have tried both over the last few weeks and it seems like my stopping power is nerfed slightly with abs full. even though it does take bit more focus with abs weak to slow down from the same brake point consistently, it just feels like i can out brake people better. is the consistency of abs full the difference maker?
I can't really answer your question (I know you weren't necessarily asking me ), but I can describe the experience I had between the two ABS settings...

In my very early days with the game, I once switched from full to weak just for testing purposes and completely forgot to change it back for weeks... When I finally realized what had happened, I was totally reliant on the extra grip weak ABS gives and most importantly it fitted my driving style...

Which was do all the braking in a straight line then turn...

But as I got better at the game, I started trail braking more (the act of braking and entering a corner at the same time) and I found trail braking to be more difficult with ABS on weak...
In cars which I had set the brake bias to the rear, the cars would simply snap into oversteer the moment I released the brakes...

Switched back to full ABS and I can now carry a lot of speed into corners and still control the car...

The best advice I've heard regarding ABS is: go with whatever you feel comfortable, there isn't really a faster setting...

Well I did not enter race C yesterday as a friend from Belgium had made an early race and said it was chaos and having just got my DR back up to B rank I didn't want to loose it all straight away!

Race B has been the most fun race for me this week and I think I finally learned the nooks and crannies of RBR.

Yep it's your failure for entering races with unfavorable matchmaking.

I already rammed @sturk0167 into the wall and brake checked him the other day  His fault for driving with the same blue triangle.

Yesterday the same thing happened to me. Got too close to an American and Argentinian fight. The American already had 8 seconds in penalty and was recovering in the same corner I rammed Sturk into the wall. I thought to pass him and promptly got rammed into the wall, exact same thing I did to Sturk. Then he had 11 seconds, served it and quit. That was the one time I got in the fast room, A+/S to A/S. Dirtiest one of the evening lol.
