So, for the last hour, I've been trying the handbrake trick at Spa. The level of difficulty is high. :crazy:
I can certainly see how it helps. I can gain a couple tenths at turn 1 when I get it right.
Last turn too, but it seems more difficult at the last turn.

Why not just change the brake balance for turn 1 and then change it back?

Personally, even though I get that you'll turn more, I find that the downside to more rear braking (as in the hand brake) is that the rears get hot, lose grip, and reduce acceleration out of the corner.
 
Too much understeer at Pouhon. Fought hard though. Trading places a few times. Scirocco is a beast in the corners, just needs more grunt. Meagne would have sorted this one out.

Well, if you're doing it right, you can have brake bias towards the front for better straight line deceleration, but then use the handbrake for rotation once you start to turn in. I suppose it's a best of both worlds scenario, if you can get good at it (I'm not good at it). I've made it work in practice a couple of times, and it works great when you're proficient. The video I posted showed that it took the guy about a dozen laps to get it right.

It may be something that's only viable for qualifying, if you've got lots of time and patience. :lol:

Race A and B so far for me this week.

Race A - qually 58.113. That was opt. Be nice to have a sub 58s, but not sure I've got time for it as I do want to try the Super Formula this weekend too.
Three races on my second account (58.4xx). Two CRBs! Think i finished 7th, 6th and a 5th. The first two I made up places, the last one I started 5th too. Drivers for the most part clean. Couple of muppets tho. I've been enjoying the BMW this evening. It's good to have a slightly more powerful FR car to deal with in race A.

Race B - I've just been using the McLaren as I saw Kie's time in it at the start of the week. I like the car as I find it stable and i can point it and it goes there. I found the brakes a bit iffy, but I don't know if that's me or the general problem lots of people been having with brakes for the past week or so. Not raced yet, but qually is 2:28.998.

Nice time at Spa pal. Won't be much help tonight to start you up the grid though - there are some fast people currently online. A 2:28.8 good enough only for 11th :confused:

What time did he have? Does he do it in races?
 
I made a switch over to the Huracan for Spa. Improved my wheel time down to 2:29.3 with it... Although far from great, I was running 2:31s at the start of the week so I'm pleased to have made some improvement. It's heavy handling around Bruxelles and Double Gauche but otherwise faster than the Lexus. I'm surprised I don't see more of them out there.

Also raced with it. Started P2/16 and finished that way. Very uneventful and lonely race, the leader had gained a 3s gap on me while 3rd place was within 2s of me. Fortunately didn't make a race-ending mistake which would've been unrecoverable in a 3 lap race.

In that race, not great sadly. Started well and had a couple of good battles on the way up to 8th towards the end of lap 2, but then got wiped out in the bus stop chicane by a guy making a wild lunge from a couple of spots back. Spun me round and I got the 5 second penalty! Managed to catch the pack by the end as they were battling, but you can't really recover in such a short race.

I've had a couple of other good ones, my best being a 4th place finish, but I'm losing DR every race and SR is getting perilously low from the mid pack shenanigans! Still searching for my first victory at Spa

Edit: the 4th place finish was in a slightly easier room, starting from 8th I think. No way I could have finished 4th with the grid from the picture!!!
 
Last night in the Spa race, twice I had to lift coming to the last kink on Blanchimont. Both times it unsettled the car to the point of spinning. So now I know to keep better distance coming into it. The car was the Mclaren, it is rock steady under power, but lifting in a turn makes the rear come round.
Fun night, even with two spins in 3 laps I moved up 4 positions..

I love i know Spa, but here, in GTS, it is nightmare for me...
With g29, yesterday was going under 31 for the first time, but only to 2:30.9xx

I'm dying while driving over first set of curbs (after Eau Rouge straight) and second before Bus stop straight.
Usually I adore that first set od corners, now I'm struggling even on very first corner.
 
In the Super Formula to get my daily car on second account.

Feels loads more stable at the rear than the SF car did when they were on the dailies at Autopolis a few months ago. Obviously there has been quite a few updates since then. At Autopolis, I had to use TCS. In Spain, I don't need it.

Handful of laps for a 1:30.382.

Finally got out of DR D. Mainly because of race C, it was not easy at the beginning but last two days all the DR I lost because of rammers & dirty drivers I got back plus more.

Bad thing I have not practice for two nights FIA races...

I'll go out on a limb here and say that he didn't do anything wrong. You had no corner rights, just sticking your nose in when he is on his line and then tip him is not good race craft in my book.
Granted, you are a lot faster than me, and your class of drivers might be more aggressive but in real life you would have lost the win.

Not sure I agree. The car in front moves across the front of spacedust basically spinning himself out. All they needed to do was hold their line and they'd have the inside line to the last corner and taken the win. It's also poor race raft to move in the braking zone like that. Just my opinion of course :)

It's not about faster drivers. I portrayed good race craft the whole race. I was taking the outside, as he chose to defend the inside. He faints left and takes my braking point on the outside line that I have chosen. In that split second, I've nowhere to go on the outside. Okay, I'll go inside if he's going to squeeze me to the outside. I go inside but he decides on closing the door and I'm already braking.

The previous race, I chose my line and was giving room to drivers behind me, going for the late braking. Last two laps, I got banged up the inside in the chicane and lost both places( I was 4th and then 5th).

Edit: Exactly like watto posted. In my race with the Scirocco vs the SLS, see how the SLS held its line as I stayed outside trying to late brake. The SLS held its line no matter what. Didin't move off line or block across the the braking zone. Trying to pass on the outside is near impossible. So, I had to follow.

Had the RC F just stayed inside, I would have had to just follow behind, after it turned in.

Intention is not always obvious before an incident occurs.
That time however, it is easy to see he was going to clog your line no matter what, and his move looked desperate. Judging by how late and deep he went on the brakes, he knew you were going to catch him. Even if you had bailed to not make contact, I doubt he would have made the left turn effectively.

All things considered, I'd say that was a good move because... winning.

wow you are exactly the kind of driver that keep me away from sport mode . To pass someone you have to be door to door whit im at the breaking point not at .2 behind ? If you can avoid contact you are supposed to do so . Racing is a non contact sport and your front bumper ram is side door . I like winning but i don't take players out to do so lollllll
