This kind of blocking/passing argument is what I have been having trouble with in race C. People pulling crazy late blocks that are dangerous in the SF19, also not recognizing the closing speed. I have had my share of mistakes but get frustrated when everything after that becomes trying to escape black knights while climbing back the field.

I try to recognize when someone is coming or is in position to make a move, ready to give them space if they get there. I try to make sure I also give room when.I make a pass attempt. Even with this there will be contact some times.

The problem is when others feel like they should use any and all means necessary to block a pass, or that they have to cripple my speed to complete on. One example being when I get passed in a turn or am close to someone in the final chicane at Catalunya, then they tap the brakes just after exiting the corner. Kills my speed and turbo boosts them down the straight, leaving with a fantastic SR down. Or when I am outside on a turn and get completely run off on exit.

This isn't racing clean or hard but fair. These people become take no prisoners gladiators instead of racers. This is the problem we need to get separated into another league or something. That's also why everyone checking out the videos and seeing different things and talking out what we saw makes more people aware of how we like to race and what is expected.

Any idiot can block/shove and pull generally douchey moves to win. That’s easy. The skill is doing it clean, because in real life those douchey moves will end a race.

Just look at F1/any race series. The greatest moments to watch are two experienced drivers going side by side with wheels mm apart. It’s absolutely incredible to watch that precision and awareness. For me the best at it in F1 is Kimi, yeah he’s lost outright speed due to age, but his spatial awareness is incredible, he’s constantly wheel to wheel but one of the cleanest/fairest out there.

As a driver, nothing beats that feeling when you are side by side with a equal driver. Even if you lose, the feeling is incredible.

This exactly. In my absolute most favorite races I have actually lost the battle at the end most of the times, but have had fantastic battles with zero or barely there taps as we take side by side turns and cut backs. This to me is more fun and shows skill than punting people away. Of course then again my lack of skill is also why I lose most of them, but still working on that.:cheers:

It is as good as it can be. He cleary choose to protect the inside and stay there, you both nailed your braking point and you left just enough space at the exit so he is still on the track. Barely any contact in this tight space.

Overtake of the week I say! :cheers:

Don't know how much cleaner you could have been. That was spot on. P2 didn't move and gave plenty of room for you to compose yourself. Happened just like the real GT4 Spa video I posted. Multiple cars side by side into, through and out of the final chicane.👍

the only reason inside car don't have a penalty its because the other car stay on track and there was enough space , if you didn't puch im the inside of the next corner was on his side ;)

Boom, exactly.

I somewhat disagree with @QC YALUM that the pass was out of place, I don't think it was that far back at all. But, we will never know, because the other guy should not have moved over. He lost out because he tried to cover both passing lanes instead of committing to one.

He should have taken the inside and forced an outside pass.


Here is another instance of what I am pounding the drum about. Penalize for contact so that people avoid contact. There was more than enough contact there for both cars to get a penalty. Not a huge penalty, but a penalty none the less.

you don't like to get doored to pas it happened to u last week in Brazil in one of my race still have the replay and your after race grettings was not positive at all lollll . I gess push to pas is the way to go ;)

I am so harsh on the front tires in the race. My cornering feels smooth and I don’t get a whole lot of wheelspin in the rear, but I feel like my braking is whats destroying my tires. I’m pretty much always burying the brake pedal, how much force do you guys use when saving tires?

Thinking of just creating a lobby with max wear and learning the hard way, not exactly how I want to spend my Saturday night though.

From my experience if you are heavy on the brakes it uses your tires more so than if you are heavy on the throttle. If you can increase your braking distance a few meters and not go full brake you should see some better wear. Also, do you use a headset? Makes it much easier to hear when your tires are screaming, quieter tires, better tire wear.​
 
Man, I am not getting it right tonight. Trying to salvage my SR. So hitting pause at the start doesnt ghost you:banghead: so that gave me a 3 sec penalty to ruin the CRB. Next rave I pull to.the side, works well but a faster guy crashed straight away. He hit me off going by, I followed for a while and he didn't pass a single car cleanly the whole race
After the pits he was somehow behind me again and hit me again on the way by. Almost back to S in spit of him. But everyone keeps crashing so much my DR is still going up? Strange days.:yuck::scared:

In my opinion if you're only able to make a move because you know there's no damage and then subsequently hit them to complete the pass then it's definitely not a move worth bragging about.

Watch it again. @05XR8 was braking first, on the outside, car in front moved out as he braked, 05XR8 moved in then car in front moved back to centre track with not enough room either side. 05XR8 had no choice but to stay where he was, moving left would have overload front tyres and caused a collision anyway, with the possiblity both cars would have left the track entirely. Guy in front made a last ditch desperate move with poor judgement, if he'd just held the right side and braked there, he'd have held his place and it would have been a clean finish.
Primary rule of braking, you do not move around in the braking zone. Pick a braking line and stick to it or you're going to leave the cars close behind no choice but your car.

If the car in front had wanted the left line for braking (or even the unsporting centre line) he should have been changing to that line before the banner, not after the first braking marker.

There where no next corner though, it was race to the line.
But yes, he could have run off on purpose and given me a penalty. But that would not be racing.

Anyone got tips on Race C? I have a good qualy time, but come the race, the car understeers everywhere, my tire wear is high and I get outpaced by guys who were 1 sec slower than me in qualy. I got like 6 poles in that race but only one win...

After the way he divebombed you at Bruxelles, that was nothing. He took the inside, you took the outside and left him room, no cause for complaint.

I thought he was a bit too aggressive there,but I did leave a little too much room there. Still, even when someone does that I always try not to retaliate. I will rather let karma sort it out.

Its called out braking bud. You dont have to be side by side at the braking point always. Does anyone that play this game ever watch a real race? If that was the case there would be alot less passing in gt racing and ZERO overtaking in F1. When you brake and somebody moves in front of you, you cant brake more than 100%. Buddy gave him 2 choices with the late move to the outside. Spacedust had to either hit him or take the inside so he took the inside but buddy closed the door on the inside causing himself to get hit anyways.

I ****ing hate when somebody blocks right as you brake and then try and blame you for it.

I regret opening this thread and reading some of these posts. Like no wonder i get punted so much when people believe they are so right when its clearly a block that got him hit.

watch real life race ? Lollllll i have my race driver license from Jim Russell racing academy and i have race motorcycles cars snowmobiles all my life. BUD lolllllll . And by the way IRL the rammer would have to DNF he probably have is front bumper blow his front left tire and radiator would leek everywhere ?

Yes, the final Chikane at Spa. I go on the outside in the first turn of the Chikane, then he ends up on outside in second turn. I left enough space for him to stay on the track and we barely touched (small touch as he turns in).
We came in side by side, no one dive-bombed.

BB+5 and start with Hard tires on the rear and Mediums on the front, pit on lap 6 or 7 for full mediums. 👍

I think we're just coming at it from different places really.

I think racing like that against a driver like that was always going to end in contact - which it did, a big race ending hit too. It just looked inevitable and looked like both cars were going to throw away a top 2 finish through desperation and reckless driving.

But with no damage it worked.

Basically I'm agreeing in the GT Sport weekly race no damage environment then cool it works.

I just don't think it was great driving from either party - but as I said I'm looking at it thinking if there was damage on it wasn't great driving.

I mean great if it works, to me it's just not driving to be encouraged or applauded (from either driver). But I understand my opinion isn't as relevant to a no damage game as it would be to a sim or real life racing.

I just figure we're here because we want to replicate real driving to an extent, not just play a game.

But that's just me projecting my view on other people - each to their own, not like real racing where people can get hurt.

Edit: the crux of of it for me is that he's put himself in a position against a driver clearly all over the place where he has to trust this driver 100% not to end both their races (despite all indications that the driver cannot be trusted). He's then made big contact. So if damage was on it was game over. Obviously the point is damage wasn't on, so no consequence. In my opinion that doesn't make for a good overtake.

But it's a fun discussion, I'm not trying to **** on anyone

The car behaves very differently in the race vs qually. The car has much less grip on the RH tyre. Just be patient with it. My RH laps are typically 1:31-2. My best strategy is doing a one stop, I'm not seeing many races won by no stoppers. Depending on where you're at on the grid, that would determine whether I'd start on medium (near front) or hard (near back). I generally run the hard for 4 or 5 laps, depending on traffic - no point working through traffic only to drop behind at the pit and get held up again.

Use the overtake button wisely. Don't be scared to run TCS to help save the tyres, too.
 
Hot lapping in the Super Formula. Yesterday and this morning I was struggling to get a sub 1:27. Inconsistency and not carrying enough speed through the chicane were my main problems.
This afternoon, after a slight adjustment to my wheel (less turning radius) and rewatching @Mistah_MCA video guide, Now I've improved my time to 1:27.596.

they are both doing wrong in this replay the guy in front change line in the breaking zone but 0XR8 still hit him while i could avoid contact . And its what we are supposed to do . You can look at my kudo's SR if u tink i don't know about sportmachip ZRT PSYCHO and GT PSYCHO click on this week Spa leaderboard both account are near top 10 in America

Before I started doing this week's daily race C, I re-watched the highlights of the 2019 Spanish GP...
There was an overtake Kvyat made on Kimi on the outside of turn 4 and Kimi just gave him enough space...
I was impressed by Kvyat of course, but I also admired how Kimi knew he had to control the car in such manner as to not run wide as one would normally do...

I remember thinking if I did that in GT Sport (going on the outside), I'd mostly likely end up in the sand... Even in the AS lobbies I'm currently in...

I've lost confidence in opponent drivers so much that I literally just hang back and wait for the straights to overtake using the overtake button...

Pretty frustrating seeing yourself lose time behind a slower driver, but better to lose a few tenths rather than 6s trying to rejoin the track..
 
Just going to give my tuppance worth to the ongoing debate.

The defenders action are erratic and those off someone cracking under pressure culminating in diagonally braking across the width of the race track. This is a no no as it gave the attacking car literally no chance of avoiding contact.

On the other hand the attacking car very much looks like it was making a move whither the defender liked it or not but the diagonal braking means we were unable to say with certainty whither contact would have been made anyway or whither they could have backed out in time.

On the balance of evidence the defending car is the guilty party in my view as whilst the attacking car looks clumsy the catalyst of the contact is the defender

One thing to remember regarding overtaking is that it is almost impossible to make a clean overtake without some kind of compliance from the car being passed. I often hear stuff like it your job to pass me cleanly I drove my line etc. True to an extent but its also your job to accept you have been overtook and drive accordingly. If the passing car has denied you an apex then you have to drive a different line.

Ever since I've started paying attention to the sound my tyres are making, I've felt improvements in my ability to preserve tyres...
I'm still slow while trying to save tyres, but at least now I have the ability to do so if I have to...

That reminds of a race I had yesterday:

I once got a 20s penalty for not using Hard tyres when I actually had used (just in the back and not on all axles)..
So I've been pretty paranoid about it, and I keep switching from medium to hard back and forth during the warm up phase just so the game "knows" I have hard tyres...

But I didn't know you lose the ability to change the tyre load out when there are 10s left in the warm up phase and ended up having medium tyres all around...

I initially panicked.. But I quickly got hold of myself and came up with a plan...
I had qualified in 1st, so the initial plan was to take off, save the tyres then pit on lap 8/9 instead of my usual 5/6...

Lights off and I had a great start... But I couldn't extract the best lap times out of the medium tyres and save tyres at the same time, so the guy in 2nd place was only 5s behind on lap 5...

Panic..
Mistakes and more mistakes... Dude is still 5s..

Surprisingly enough, he doesn't pit on lap 6 or 7, then it hits me... He might be on a no-stop and I still haven't got a decent pit window...

More panic...
But this time I keep it together...
I decided I'd pit on lap 9 and focused as hard as I could on getting the fastest possible in-lap...
I actually manage to... I'm 6.5s ahead getting into the pits, change to the hards, which btw, I had never driven with at Catalunya with the SF cars...

In the pits I noticed that I didn't have enough fuel to make it to the end because due to all the pressure of being fast and saving tyres, I had completely forgotten to short shift in the opening stages which is usually when I do it...
"****"... I was sure 6.5s wasn't enough to change tyres and refuel and still come out ahead, so I skip refueling...

So now I have to short shift and learn the new hard tyres whilst keeping a pretty fast dude behind me...
I leave the pits and he was 1s behind me..
All the pressure was on me... But 2nd place makes a mistake at turns 1 and 2..

Out lap was a total disaster.. But I quickly realize that I'm quicker than him in the middle sector, but he's quicker than me on the last sector...
So he'd always get within 1s at the main straight which would make my heart race because I didn't think I could defend myself with hard tyres...

So we went back and forth with him catching up and me pulling a gap for the remaining laps and I ended up winning the race...

Definitely the most intense race I've done without having to battle anyone...

I enjoyed reading it. You actually made a tire- and fuel saving race sound exciting. That's impressive.
