I for one am pumped to have a tuning race in the mix. Very rare occasion indeed!
Although I feel like in tunable races the the power and weight settings shouldn't be free reign, they should set a limit and allow tuning to any other settings. Just maxing out the power and reducing weight to minimum is not tuning.

Hang on, Race B is a one make but you HAVE to increase the power to make it valid as a N500 (from N400) car before you can enter??????

So far I have slammed it and upped the turn-in. Tried camber but it made it slower, has a lot already.

Weight and power are locked
 
Oh come on Pigems!!, like gramps says just slam it and adjust the tranny a bit to tighten up the gears for this short track, I like the make sure I'm redlining 6th at the end of the longest straight. Sometimes if might have to adjust a bit higher or lower to make sure the gear you end up in most is optimal.
Maybe reduce camber...unless you like drifting, but considering the car and track combo, it wouldn't be too far out place.

Sometimes I will reduce compression in the front by 1 and increase rebound in the back by 1, to try and keep more weight on the front tires for longer while trail braking. More for cars that don't turn well. I doubt that is a problem in the FD though.

I just don’t like not knowing if you’ve been beat straight up, or by a better tune, and there’s no way to know. Plus the tuning time eats into hot lap time, and in the end everyone just ends up using the same tune anyways, so it might as well just be a spec race. :)
 
Yeah I agree with you on the fact that everyone does just end up using the same or similar optimal tune. Same with the power settings like I mentioned earlier. PD might as well just pick a power level and minimum weight so everybody is the same on that. Although I wish PD would play around with settings themselves a bit more in 1 makes. Like when they do those Mazda touring car 1 makes, why do they choose to use the bop, adds a bunch of weight and tunes the power down, why not do the opposite, make that little go kart scream! Way more fun imo.

I just miss tuning from the old days. That's what originally sucked me into Gran Turismo back in '98. I was obsessed with RC cars as well because they could the tuned and adjusted. I remember bringing the instruction manual to school to read about driving techniques and what upgrade parts I wanna save up for so I can get out of Sunday cup races and on to more challenging races.

A victory at Spa, finally! Had to wait until I started from pole though, but it was a tight race all the way so I feel it was well earned.

Should actually have had the win a couple of races earlier. Had a small cushion to second place, just over 2s so importantly just out off slipstream range. Then managed to spin at Blanchimont. I mean really, who spins at Blanchimont? Ridiculous.

The next race I was so nervous through there I eased off the throttle and spun again with lift off oversteer. It was so pathetic I struggled to get back on the track because I was laughing so much. Better yet, I had the same car following me, he must have thought I was drunk!!!

So on to this week's races. Autopolis just bores me so much. Tsukuba i also dislike, but ironically most of my wins have come there. Can't see me doing well with tuning though, simply don't have the time to experiment. That leaves Yamagiwa in the GT86. Hmmm, OK, yeah. Anyone run this yet? Is it any good?
 
Race A should be good clean fun, it's a good track you should barely have to let go the gas pedal in that car though. I think the s bend at the end of the mid straight will be the difference maker, you'll wanna set a good qually time by getting that section right, so you start ahead of drivers who haven't, because they will be slowing you down massively through there in race.
 
People already whining because there’s tuning in one race... I’d like to point out that the RE Amemiya doesn’t need much if anything at all changed to the settings to be competitive. It already has a solid base.

If the tuning in this game was like old games where you could actually swap out parts, it would be fine, but all it ends up being in GTS is people pushing sliders all the way to one side or the other, it’s not in any way realistic to tuning a real car. Plus, who wants to spend hours tinkering with settings when you could be racing? Or when you can’t see someone else’s tune after a race to see what they did differently?

If everyone ends up using the same tune, you know you've been beaten straight up rather than by a better tune ;-)

I suspect this is following on from having the time trials where tuning was permitted. They've gauged popularity from participation in the tuning vs non-tuning TTs, and they think it's popular enough that they're now gauging popularity in tuning vs non-tuning daily races. So if you don't like tuning, don't do the tuning daily races, so they don't interpret your participation as a vote in favour of them.

I don’t do the tuning TT’s and don’t plan to touch Race B this week either. Don’t the tuning TT’s have much less participants than the stock one?

There is NO WAY to know who used what tune after a race, so everyone is left wondering who did what, therefor there is no way to know what to change or adjust for the next race. If you could see everyone’s tune post race I would have less of an issue with it. Same for the TT’s.
 
Equal drivers can surely be beat by a tune but a bad driver in a great tune won't be beat by a good driver in a good tune. Also, you need to be a good driver to fine tune to your own driving style.

Edit: I spend 2 minutes and then testdrove as a Qt. 6 laps later I was starting as p4. Finished as p4 too.

Anyone tried out the new supra with bop on and compared it to the other cars?
I won't get a chance till tonight.
Kinda liking this week's races. I like autopilots, it's a good test, tsukuba looks wild in the Re-Ameriya, and even kyoto in the new 86. Yes it's Japan w|k for sure, but pretty varied o a little something for everyone.

I just tried it and couldn't beat my AMG time. Jag over a second slower than both AMG and 911. That's all I have time for tonight... not sure if I'll do much of any of the three races this week.
 
Not much racing this week. Even less time hot lapping. Managed a best P3 in race C, andva couple wins in B. Last night my final race at Spa was a win. Started P2 and got away with the leader who was in the GT-R vs my Jag. I was on his tail all race, but couldn't make a move. I got a .5 penalty on lap 2, got a good draft and closed up to .1 before ghosting and slowing, back on his tail right away, and he got a .5 penalty, pushingbto keep me behind. Ran good lines on the final chicane, to finish closer than 1 second for the "gimme" win. Ill take it.
Tuning, huh? I'll give it 10 - 15 laps to tweak, then go race. See what happens...
 
I really like how the 17’ Lexus feels at Autopolis but the gearing is a bit too long. It makes it a little difficult to do t1 and a couple other corners. 46.4 with it on a messy lap, this could definitely do 45s though, maybe even 44s in the right hands.

I do think that tuning in Sport Mode can work as long as there's some semblance of structure. If it were up to me, I'd add a 4th daily race slot dedicated to tuning and set certain limits such as locking out power and weight values. On that note, it would be nice if tunes could be shared the same way as photos, replays, and liveries. If you make it more accessible and intuitive, I think more players would be open to the idea. Thankfully, the tuning forum is a great resource.

That’s a lazy way of thinking honestly. I spent 2 minutes maximum on altering the LSD, lowering the camber slightly, lowering the height, and stiffing the springs slightly.

Yes, but you probably have some real world car knowledge to aid you in making those “2 minute” adjustments. Not everyone has that, in fact, most people don’t. It’s the entire reason why performance parts were left out of this game in the first place, Kaz himself said they were left out because not enough people have the car knowledge these days to know how to tune cars.

I play this game for its plug and play features and spec racing, if I wanted to tune cars I’d play AC or PC2 where the tuning actually works properly.
