Very impressive getting to A level in just a few days.
Thanks, getting out of the starting few classes wasn’t too bad, made sure to set a fast quali time and then just kept my nose clean lap 1. I think my more impressive stat is around 99% podium rate lol. At 195 top 5 finishes to 209, almost all being 1st/2nd/3rd.
If I wasn’t on pole I would wait till lap 2 before attacking the guys in front of me, unless there’s a obvious opening. Reason to do this, build a gap to the guys behind you. Attacking too much on lap 1 slows both of you down and opens you up to chaos with the guy behind you trying to get past as well. Clear the field, then attack.
Up until day 20 I was running a dying setup as well. I was running a old Fanatec GT3 RS with the V1 Clubsport pedals. Sounds “nice” but both were on their last legs lol. The FF in the wheel was almost non existent or would fail after an hour, ended up correcting a snap oversteer moment so fast I split the shaft of the wheel in half . The pedals brake load cell was messed up and the foam inside the V1 was gone so had to jerry rig it. Brakes were very much on/off so trail braking and consistency went out the window lol.
Now I’m running the CSL ELITE PS4 and it’s a huge improvement. The CSL brake pedal and FF of this wheel are light years better. Problem is......now I want the new DD1 direct drive knowing how that’s another giant step lol. Gotta upgrade to the sim lab 80/20 rig first.
But def qualifying in the front 2 rows makes a huge difference in getting race wins. Starting further back puts you right in the chaos and by the time you get out the front guys have opened a 4sec lead which can be very hard to overcome if they are close in speed.
Consistency is the other thing. I notice a lot of guys who will set a faster time than me, but when we get on track they can’t repeat it and it’s just a matter of putting pressure on them till they crack. These guys I feel, use very aggressive driving lines which requires being perfect to pull off. Great for time trials not racing. Double so for races with tire wear, that aggressive line/steering input kills tires in a hurry. I just sit behind you taking a casual line and using the draft, then a few laps later pass with ease.
Winning isn’t about having the fastest lap. It’s strategy/consistency
