Race C is fun, if you can avoid the punters. Attrition seems high. My last race had only 8 finishers with 11 DNF! If you don’t use Gr 2 cars very often, Suzuka can be a cruel test. It also seems to be a great example of “One hot qualifying lap is not a reflection of race pace” so don’t be put off by those hyper low qualifying times. Then again, I may be wrong........usually am, alas.
It is fun. Got punted at the final chicane in my first race, but still managed to get up to 8th place from 18th on the grid, all without overtaking a car on track. Second race, I went from 16th to 4th, again without overtaking another car on track!

Suits my slow, but steady, race style.

Did only one Race C yet, but it went from bad to worse. First, I spent hours making a Alpha Tauri livery for the NSX. Ran the race, started 11th, went up to 6th at some point, spun out thrice, and ended the race at a lowly 14th. I was car # 3, so lost a lot of DR.

I have the GT-R and Lexus in the garage, so will give them both a run. I think the Lexus will be faster than the NSX.

I don't feel bad about doing so bad in the Race. i feel bad because I can't use the Alpha Tauri liveried NSX now. It really looks nice :banghead:

Hi guys!
Quite new to online racing, specially in GT Sport.
One thing that really upsets me, is the fact that i qualify among the first five, make great laps, and someone comes from behind and gives me a good bump, i spin out and lose 10 places.
it is really unfair, because the guy who bumps me ONLY gets a 5 sec penalty, while i lose 10 places and my DR is getting low... The penalty system should be more... i don`t know... better done..
i`ve been racing GT Sport online only for one week but this thing is really upseting. Looks like i have to practice not only in being a good racer, but also in getting better in watching out for UNFAIR players...

Since the penalty system changes with updates and its a part of the game you cant change my advice is to accept it and learn how the system works and drive accordingly. We are all in agreement that the penalty system is problematic.

Keep your distance to other cars and drive with your head not your heart and dont get bogged down by penaltys!

Have fun and see you at the races!!

Welcome to GTSport :) Your complaint is a common one and there's little in the way of good news that will make you feel better about it!

The only thing I'd say is that the more experience you get, the more you will start to recognise who the dirtier drivers are, sometimes by name but often just by the way they are driving. When you see them, and they are all over your rear bumper your best bet is to let them past. 9 times out of 10 they will either end up off track, or will be awarded a penalty, both of which means you get the position back. It's often easy to
get stuck into a battle that will only end badly, regardless of who was in the right and who was in the wrong. Don't be too proud to let a battle go to win the war!

Do this and your DR and SR will start to rise.

Good luck and have fun!

EDIT - The penalty system is regularly being tweaked by PD. What we have at the moment is a particularly bad iteration. There's an update due this week so just pray to the GTSport gods that some improvements are made.

Starting at the back, is a blessing and a curse. I got to see all the cars ahead getting punted off. Problem is, those starting on the RMs, are bantha fodder a couple laps in and on worn tyres from skidding.

I qualified and started on RH. Pit at end of Lap 7. Put a fresh set of RH and cars were coming back to me. I was up to 10th and slowed up for an RC F exiting pit lane. It built a gap, but started to go off on its own, at the last turn before the back straight.
I stayed wide right and thought I cleared it, but it tags me off. I get 1 second for that on Lap 11.

I pit for RM. Start catching that same RC F and a GT-R. Another GT-R is ghosting. And another GT-R is lighting up its rears in a ghosted state.
I'm harrassing the RC F. It's got 2 seconds for something. Yet another GT-R is gaining on us and I know I have to stay cool until this RC F enters the PZ.

I'm finally released on the back straight and on fresh RMs. Flat out through the 130R and I see the GT-R had to back off. I brake too deep and juuuuust get the edge of the kerb. GT-R should have backed off a bit more as it just taps me, to give me the boost I needed. Finished with 1 second remaining on the clock. :)

Welcome to GTP :) Compared to a couple of months ago you are lucky they are getting *any* penalty . Another thing you might want to consider is that if you are DR/D or C, a lot of these people who are knocking you off aren't dirty players, just inexperienced. They may hot lap well during qualifying, but haven't developed their race craft yet. Maybe they are following a bit too close, or quite often they get close, catch the slip stream, but don't have the experience to account for the increase in speed requiring earlier braking. The lower DR's can be a bit messy some times, and more often than not, it's unintentional. Once you get above DR/C you start to see some truly dirty drivers :scared:.

A hanfull of laps before work in the honda. Got my time down to a 34.373 with a .137 optimal. Still having a hard time cuse of fwd, i never run them on my own time, so the difference in how to drive them fast compared to a rwd really throws me off sometimes. Gonna do some races this afternoon i think....

I've run out of time before work, but sometime this week, I'll have to post a video from last night. Let's just say that when I told @sturk0167 that I would get that Clydesdale pony around Big Willow, I meant it. This is how.

The video is gonna be one of my best yet.
OK, I have to test it too!

It's the Toyota FT-1. I like it better than the Supra there. 👍
Starting to see lots of R.S.01s, too.

I've never had much luck with the Peugeot RCZ but tried it last night at Willow and turned a 1:12:8xx using a controller which is the fastest lap I've ever turned there. Car felt really balanced and I started clicking off decent lap times right after I dialed in just a little rear brake.

Out of the 5-6 cars I tried last night it was definitely the most comfortable to drive. Going to try the Mustang tonight, saw a few people turning quick laps with it.

I saw you ran the Vette last night -- is that what you set your QT with, too? I might need to try out some American muscle later.

The mad man's in the desert. Look behind you! The mad man's in the desert. Looking to find you! ..... So another day in the desert heat, this time with the R.S.01. I managed to take another second of my qualy time, which still leaves me a second to catch up to @sturk0167 's Asian account. This shocks me by placing me P6/14 on an all DR/B grid... scary :scared:!. The grid itself was a nice mix. No more than two of any one car.

The race starts and I have a good head of steam. I find myself in P3 going into T3. Skating the edge? I *am* the edge! Then I find myself off the track and re-spawned in last place . It was no one's fault. Someone made a mistake and bumped someone, who bumped someone, who bumped into me. I was awarded a 1s penalty and an orange SR for my trouble. After a bit of a struggle to scrub the tyres clean I just focus on circulating. If last night and what others have been reporting is anything to go by, if I stay on the track, I won't finish last . True to form, people were falling off as the laps progressed. The R.S.01 was pretty stable.. a bit tail happy in T3/4 if you don't watch it, but generally a pretty easy ride. I'm getting a sense that Big Willow is a place where it's possible to use some of the more unstable cars successfully. I finished P9.

SR dropped 4, Diminished Responsibility dropped a bit over 200... less than I gained from last night :dopey:. Day 9 in hostile territory :odd:.

Race A, finished 4th after starting at the rear and getting sideswiped/rammed by so many rude drivers. Then I did a 1:39.271 qualification lap and started in pole position. At the end of the race I was 10 seconds in front of 2nd place. Race B, started 5th, finished 1st. Start in front to avoid the 🤬.

OK, I have to test it too!

That particular event only happened once, so don't treat the Mustang like it's a Raptor.

My best QT was in the Peugeot VGT, but the Corvette wasn't far behind. On my 2nd account is where I have the Vette as my fastest car in the garage. I got it to 1:12.88

Looking forward to it. 👍

If you are a member of my fan club, you could see it right now shared in the game (tags: nostopn, Willow, Mustang). After the AMG brake checked me on lap 1 (& gave himself a penalty ), it was just me trying to stick to the leader's bumper for the right opportunity. That pass was even riskier than I normally take. But when I saw the opening, I had to take it.

I've done that in qualifying more than once. I don't think I've done it in a race yet, but I'm sure I will. 👍

I've done it in a race before. It's both hilarious & embarrassing. You should have a b-roll video by now considering your penchant for "spirited" driving.

Now, it's time for videos. The FR American cars are skating around looking for front end bite. The Viper can be coaxed into racing hard, but I was being overly cautious. I don't want a penalty to ruin my race.

I admit that since I started playing GT Sport, I have noticed some quirks develop in my personality. One of those is the need to win a race in a car if I really like the livery I created. My Corvette C5-R tribute scheme is one of those liveries. It was the first serious & detailed livery that I attempted in the game. It has been shut out of victory lane for 18 months. That was until last night. :mischievous:

And why not bring out one of my cars from an early win in my career? Since we don't have the newest GTE/GTLM model of Ford GT, I just slapped its livery to the GT that we had in the game. It's not a guaranteed win in this car, but it looks great no matter where it finishes.

And this is how hard I was trying to set a competitive time before switching to the META. I don't recall the last time I set exact matching times in a test session....

....until I tried to qualify on my R4M account.

And now for the video @sturk0167 has been waiting for. My version of the Pass in the Grass. Maybe I'll call it the Skirt in the Dirt.
