What’s the deal with the headlight flashers? I don’t block, I stick to the racing line & give space when someone is alongside me
Default headlight flash on DS4 is L3 (press left analog stick) which is also default steering. Get a little tense while racing and the headlights flash without you even realising it. You can only be sure it's intentional if it's happending when the car that's flashing is on a loooonnnggg straight.

I confirm this. I was unintentionally flashing so hard that it annoyed even myself, I had to change settings

There‘s a decal somewhere in the library „Your flashing means nothing to me“.

I remapped the flash to the triangle because I occassionally use them to hint a obviously slower car that I‘m about to pass. Real racers would make room if they acknoledge their tires are fubar or they are running a meager mixture.

But most racers are Joe Average trying to win at any cost. So my basic idea of flashing is pointless.

I dont know whats going on today, race C is full of dirty idiots now...

It‘s called „weekend“ by professionals ;)

Now I think maybe they are trying to gain as much DR as possible before FIA?

Yep, my thoughts too. Having 4 FIA races a week means at least 4 days of idiot driving in daily races.
I think 4 is stupid. OK to have four like now if you can only participate in two. Then make them duplicate and if you are in the early one you can't be in the second.

Flashing is at an all time high. If you are in a group C car the hybrid behind will often flash all the way through Dunlop and to the straight. I am on the racing line,if you want to pass go around. It's not a multiclass race (hint PD) so I don't yield. I won't defend but I don't yield.

I think its just done to try and distract you from the road in front, it doesn't bother me and usually the flashers lose time not having their focus completely on the track in front.

Did four Race Cs today, all from pole. One in the Peugeot 908, three in the TS050. Spun the Peugeot on the last lap and fell down from P2 to P6, and collected three wins in the Toyota afterwards. As I told @LVS_1986 in the post-race chat after the final one, I don’t ever get tired of winning this race. ;)

That race was also the only one that was simply a straight dash to the flag on my part. I did a 17:06 as a race time, but you can subtract about a second from that thanks to an unfortunate penalty. Lap times were a 3:28, and then three consecutive low 3:24’s, followed by a low 3:25 (the lap with the penalty). I guess that’s the pace I can do atm without exerting myself too much (for example, I always leave a generous margin at the kink before Indianapolis).

In the other races I made some mistakes that made things a bit more interesting. In one race, I got passed on the first bit of the Mulsanne and was then caught out on the brakes by the guy in front of me on the first lap, which resulted in multiple taps and a cumulative 2s worth of penalties, so I had a bit of a job to do here. Including a good little, clean battle with he aforementioned LVS_1986, who was rocking a lovely GT-One livery. By the time I’d caught the guy in first on lap 4, I finally passed him cleanly on the approach to the Porsche curves and made the move stick going ‘round the outside into the first, fast right-hander. I was looking forward to a battle, but unfortunately the other driver pitted immediately afterwards. They finished in 7th after taking tyres and a full tank of fuel, which I… didn’t really get.

All in all, a good day at the races, and almost 4,000 DR gained.

PS: I also did my fastest ever quali lap at Le Mans, a 3:21.371. In the Alpine, naturally…

EDIT:

PPS: The way you can just go flat-out in the Toyota with FM1 and no slipstream, shortshifting or lift-and-coast of any kind is ridiculous. I actually tried the Peugeot just so see how it’d hold up and it’s not even a comparison. I really don’t get the fuel multipliers here, but that was already discussed at length earlier in the week.

I noticed I steer so forcefully at Sarthe I click the L3 stick down as well. I have my headlights set to on/off instead of flashing, so I just notice the headlight indicator has changed after the corner. No clue if that still makes it flash or annoying, perhaps i should simply assign it to another button entirely if possible.

Intentional flashing always makes me laugh as they usually fly off wide while madly flashing their lights. Looks like the lights on the Titanic flickering out while the ship is sinking.

I would venture a guess that the driver who surprised you by braking early and then pitting was an old group C. They're faster on straights and have to brake earlier than the hybrids. And hybrids ramming them from behind in the braking zones should be penalized. You should know your opponents.

FFS - another closely fought Race B (for 5th/6th/7th), then the Beetle in front of me outbraked himself on the hairpin-ish bit before the COD - didn’t like being passed, so fully punted me on the last corner - I went from 5th to 10th...

How do I create an Alt account? So tempted to use one when there’s just dirty racing like this...

You guessed wrong – it was an R18, actually. I don’t think I saw a single Group C car up front in any of my four races, unfortunately.

I had so many good Race B's yesterday and finally got out of class C and into B. But my SR has taken a hit pretty badly, I'm not sure if the penalty system thinks I'm brake checking people or if i'm really missing some of the braking points that badly, but I've getting rammed a lot and my SR takes the hit. I'm doing Race B again today and I've qualified 4th in both (mostly B/S drivers) and I've been punted all the way to last and only to finish 9th each time.

On my continued pet peeve tonight. Hybrids are totally evil. Even the race I won when dropped to SR A the guy on pole tried to punt me in the chicane after I passed him.
Next rave in the lower SR S bracket I was leading by a second when the Toyota in p2 simply didn't brake for the first chicane months straight and punts me straight into the wall. I get a 1 second collision penalty and lose 4 spots. They spun out near the end of the race and after I passed them they tried it again o the final chicane but missed. Said sorry after the race. I said if they were sorry they would have waited for me. They laughed, I called them a dirty prick. Had several issues around them all week so they drive like this as standard.
Yeah, reported, as if that will do anything.
I didn't know cars could chat.

Where do you shift?
I have to do a bit of lift-and-coast in order to make it to the end.

I got called a noob yesterday (day before?)in race C, by an 050 driver, when I was also in an 050. He repeatedly bumped me from behind in corners. Both chicanes on the long straight he would hit me on the middle turn. I don't know what he was doing, but I (try) to go in hot, then hold the middle turn tight to get a good drive out. He hit me in braking zones multiple times, too. That was the race that dropped me from 99 to SR B. Funny how he acted like I was slowing him down, but I caught him 3 times after he knocked me off. The first time first lap put me near last place, (brake bump at Indy). He did finish ahead of me after puting me in the sand at mulsanne on the last lap, but I looked at the best lap times at the end, and his best lap was about 1.4 seconds slower than mine. Just because you can accelerate into the back of someone in a corner doesn't mean you're faster, or even mean they're slowing you down. Might have to go back to race A for a bit today. I had some good racing there early in the week. As long as we made it through T1 and got strung out a bit, it was fun. Side by side, in the rain, between concrete walls...what could be better! Had a couple of P2 finishes there, many seconds behind an A (+?) Driver who I tend to see a lot. I pushed him a bit, early on, but once he broke the draft, it was over. I think his Q was a 42.9.

That’s not you braking too early, that’s everyone else braking too late!

Yeah, if you're in the draft, you loose downforce and brake distances are a lot longer. I usually pull to the inside to get clean air so I can stop, but sometimes it all goes to hell when the guy in front thinks I'm going for a pass, and moves over to block, taking my air, my downforce, and any chance I have of not rear ending him. I usually back out way early, and coast if I'm catching someone going into a brake zone and don't intend to pass. You can lift throttle 100 yards before your brake point and lightly drag brakes as you close, corner speed is easier to get right so you can get a good drive, and you pass em on the way out. Watching replays of @Sven Jurgens racing from the back, and then doing it myself, really brought that home and improved my racecraft. That's one of the main reasons I still race from the back regularly. It's a less frantic pace, and more cerebral. Patience and planning move you forward. A solid pace is also good!

I wish people would have this patience more often. It's so much easier to hold the draft and not mess people's races up until you have an opening. My favorite spot to pass this week has been heading into Indianapolis. I'll tail someone, coasting into the hard braking zones and conserving my resources, and then finally use the draft to take the inside path on the way out of Mulsanne corner. It's an easy place to pass cleanly, and as an asshole hybrid driver, it's the best place to make sure I don't get overtaken immediately after. I've had good luck passing there and then pulling a decent gap over Group C cars on the way back to Mulsanne straight.

Edit: In other news, I just can't see myself doing much daily racing next week. We've had a decent run of choices, so I guess I can't complain too much.

I decided to have a try at B this morning , I'm quite happy with the track but not at the pace of the higher cars , I had two races both for m last on grid , i did raise position in both by 6/7 places and my SR is back to 99 but took a little hit on the DR.
I think that to be perfectly honest my ability in a race is lower than my DR is placing me but I do my best.

again i've been punted off at Arnage by a jealous toyota who didnt like me blowing past him , god i hate these cars

Boy seaside was mess last night, some really poor racers. I had one guy try to pass me in THE chicane, like really man?? it ended badly or both of us of course. Then he lost i tin the esses and ran across the track and hit me. Last again. Then I passed him and he tried to make a move up the inside of the final turn from like 3 car lengths back and he over shot the corner.

By this point I had enough and for the first time in nearly two years, I pushed him off track next time i came across him.

All he had to do was follow me through the chicane, get a run into the final turn and he had me. i was in the beetle which is slow on the main straight, he would have pulled away. Instead he caused three incidents.

What’s the deal with the headlight flashers?

It's great fun pulling away from them - their flashes become weaker and weaker until you can't see them. As I've said before, in the UK flashing your headlights gives priority to the other car!
Where do you shift?
I have to do a bit of lift-and-coast in order to make it to the end.

I have 0.4 laps worth of fuel left at the end, but that's with AT (seems to be the opposite to most cars, where MT is needed for fuel saving).
