Back on the track after an extended stay in Los Santos and I have a question.

The 4C is my baby for Race C qually, but in the actual race it gobbles up the rear tyres. Does anyone else find this, or is it just my driving style?

Is it possible to start on Mediums on the front/ Hards on the rear, then change to Mediums all round when pitting after about 8/9 laps or will this not comply with the tyre conditions for this race and incur a penalty?

That doesn't work anymore.

Three consecutive clean races. Tried the GT-R. Such a silly car. NO effort on the straights. MOved up 6 spots.

Next, M6. Easy drive. Moved up 6 spots.

Jumped in the R8. My most hated car after the RCZ Gr.B. THe Brands HAtch Circuit Experience and the intial handling when the game came out. Just hated that rotating R8 back then. Well, I went .7 seconds faster than the time set in the Mustang. Super stable under braking, in corners, accelerating mid-corner and out of corners. Set two fastest laps. Was on for the FL on the last lap, but I caught the train of four cars fighting for P1. Dopped back from the Viper as it got squirelly in front of me. A car down in 15th got FL. Moved up two spots.

I gotta give up on race b. I'm killing my DR and it's not really due to mistakes, it's simply pace. I've dropped from a DR of 36k to 34k in 2 days.

I can run sub 1:40 no problem in the AMG, working my qualification from 1:39.7 down to 1:39.2 last night, but it's simply not enough to gain DR points. I've tried the Lambo, I can't do it. The driving style just doesn't suit me and if I manage a sub 1:40, my next lap is a 1:41. It's very brake, point, straighten wheel, gas and pray. I prefer cars that I can load up the tires gradually and modulate the brake to get them to rotate. The Lambo rotates once, and if you have to adjust it will just oversteer or refuse to turn. I'm wondering if the drivers that are quick with the Lambo are using the DS3 instead of a wheel because smooth inputs get you nowhere and you need the wheel dead straight to get on the gas.

Final race of the night was mostly A/S with a few A+/S and S/S drivers. I hate getting bumped off the line, but whatever I missed my apex and I clearly wasn't fast enough.

The Lambo is fast but it requires perfect inputs. To me all the mr in game are sort of like this.
One mistake and the car destabilizes and lap is plus a second.
I know of 2 ds4 users who are Uber fast in that car tho. Too demanding for me but I believe it’s one of the fastest mr.
For handling cars it’s very hard to surpass Porsches in this game, great balance.
Mr often FEEL super fast, but give me power and stability and easy to drive.
Try the gr3 vette; it’s awesome if you are a slow is smooth smooth is fast person.

@TeddyWestside I must have missed the fact that you have a NA account. It was good racing with you last night! My PSN is MonyB, we had a good fight for P3 at Fuji - which you pretty much conceded to me after we bumped a couple times. Which is kinda funny because I did the exact same thing to the Lambo in P2 after bumping him hard trying to go under him in Panasonic in L2. Good times!

I do see Porsches at the top of the grid as well, I tried it briefly but couldn't get a handle on it. I had some decent practice laps but in a pack, one tap from behind and you're all over the place. Maybe I'll try the Vette next time. Tonight I need to warm up for FIA Manu at Suzuka.

I don't know how to phrase this, but as my own skill improves enough to improve my DR, do you suppose getting wins/poles will get any "easier," so to speak? I think if it doesn't get easier, it might become more likely instead, considering that I'm DR B and I get matched with DR A drivers. I suppose by "easier," I mean the likelihood of starting on pole, or in a high enough position that I could finish P1.

I also wonder if trying more championship races again would help. I don't know how many championship races I've done compared to daily races, but it somehow feels a bit easier getting a high starting position sometimes, with how qualifying works in those races. In fact, my KudosPrime profile says I have a higher percentage of leading laps in FIA races - nearly three times more than daily races.

If matchmaking works as intended it's very hard to get a win. As it should be,you are being matched with evenly fast drivers.
I seem to recall that a win percent of 1 is pretty normal.

Right, but there's only so many fast drivers, no?

I feel your pain but like @RacingGrandpa is saying, that's the system working as intended. No matter what my DR, SR or qualifying time is I tend to start around P8 on the grid. It is frustrating but it is how things are supposed to work. Every now and then, seemingly out of the blue, I'll start in the top 3. I just try to make the most of those opportunities when they arise. Of course, on the flip side I sometimes get placed into a A/A+ lobby as a backmarker and feel terrible about my life choices.

Aaah, good to put a name to the... umm, name!:D
If there's a bit of a bump on passing, that's one thing, but if I feel I've disadvantaged another driver with an ill-judged or lack of control move, it's only fair to give up the place. Should be fun if we race again.👍

Hmmm monyb
:::::erases name from punt on sight list::::
Jkin :)
Hope I'm not on the list, not that you're ever likely to encounter me!:D

As your skill improves you'll probably become more consistent and put in faster qualifying - so when you start near the front of the grid I'd say you'll be more likely to win.

Right, but there's only so many fast drivers, no?

@Pigems has a couple different accounts that are 50-60k DR and he frequently mentions that one of those accounts only has 15 wins.

I have 34 or 35 on my main account. They are almost all from when I was struggling to stay in DR B. Now that I’ve been consistently 27-32k DR, they are a rare thing. My last two came in FIA. I practice a bunch for the first, and the second win came because of some heavy mismatching due to my SR from Monza lol.

I don’t think I’ve had a single win as a DR A.

Sounds like I should just play something else, then. I don’t really know what I’m racing for, in that case. There’s just so many confusing decisions that seem to have been made with GT Sport, like the level system that not only does next to nothing, but it also seems like it’d take about a century to get from my current level (46) to level 50. And for what, a decal?

Hopefully PD can get competent trophy designs for the next game. I don’t even know where to start with how much I have issues with the trophies for GT Sport. On the other hand, maybe I’ll finally get around to playing Ace Combat 7.

Otherwise, if I’m not going to feel like I’m progressing in skill, then I’m just gonna quit, and wait for GT7. Seems like trying to get better at GT Sport is almost a sisphean task. It’d be much more tolerable if the trophies for wins/poles were instead, say, for reaching a certain DR, or beating a qualifying time set by the famous drivers mentioned in those trophies. Trophies shouldn’t depend on a moving goalpost, much less one that can be manipulated with exploits. They should be a baseline for showing the player’s literacy with the game and its mechanics.

The trophies and in-game achievements for GT Sport are a joke, as if they were designed by naïve game designers who had no idea how to design a challenging but fair task.

Daily race C. Got my q time down to a 16.8.... hopeful of a good grid slot, nope.... had me starting P15

The racing has been a tonne of fun though. Nowhere near quick enough to win in such lobbies, but really great racing for the lower places.

Hopefully the aliens will go to sleep at some point and I can start a bit higher up.

I mean I guess...I'm way better now than I was when I was winning all the time. The grids are 12/16/20 drivers for Races A/B/C...not everyone can be a winner.

I race because it's challenging and I find reward in getting better. There are lots of way to measure that in this game apart from wins and trophies.

As true as that is, that doesn’t excuse the design of the trophies and in-game achievements. It’s like PD has no idea how to design trophies. Maybe it was a bit more bearable at launch, before the many changes to the DR system and how daily races worked. But for now, I don’t know how PD expected anybody to get those trophies. I found the “Beat Zico” and “Zone Zeus” trophies in WipEout HD Fury to be easier than this!

Level 49 is only half way to level 50 afaik.
If you are in GTS for wins then it's probably the wrong game for you.
Almost everyone I know that loves the game are in it for the racing. Not for the wins, not for the trophies, but for the racing, the good racing, the adrenaline and the friendship.
And this I think the game, and this website excells in.
We complain about it's shortcomings bit we doesn't stop playing because the good far surpasses the bad.
