Has the rate you increase SR been lowered with the new update? After a shambolic race I was down at 70-something, I just had a clean race at Le Mans and I'm up to 80. I feel like it should be going up quicker than that.

I hope so, I was a bit tired of all the dirtier drivers just bouncing back to 99 SR so fast. You should have to work to get and then keep your SR at 99 imo.
Although it does suck when you get given stupid SR downs for no reason so I feel peoples pain.

No, a clean race at the Lemans track was worth 10 SR at the beginning of the week as well. It's the same.

I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt when I'm racing without qualifying because they're (likely) slower drivers and probably just braking where they think they need to.

10 SR is a lot less than a clean race C used to be worth. (16 I think?)

As to the talk of dirty air and braking. Think of it this way. The same effect that gives you a boost from the draft (car in front punching a hole in the air) also takes the air off of everything that gives you downforce, hence @RacingGrandpa saying to pull out into clean air. It's not really worse for faster cars, but for cars with more downforce since they loose braking traction AND the "airbrake" effect. BTW, many people think you're trying to go for the inside pass when you do that, and move back in front of you. That can create an accidental punt situation, so beware!

I usually put half my front in clean air to the left of the car ahead coming towards Mulsanne. Often they pull further left and then I go inside. Two for one: clean air and inside

SR gains all depend on what your SR was when the race started, you gain more if you start with less.

That's not how I've understood it... it's a straight pickup in X pts per sector, it's just that is a cap at 99, so for example: if you enter a race with 90 SR, and are clean all race in a race that allows up to 10 SR, you hit the limit and that's it. But you still "earned" 10 in that race, though your net gain was only 9.

I've never seen it vary when (thankfully only a few times) that I had to run an "SR Recovery Series" of races from as low as 66, the per race pickup was always consistent when I looked at the per race reports on gtsport.r1s3.net... The SR points I earned were always the same, at the beginning of the run up til I pegged it to 99 again.

Is that right?

(EDIT: I'm open to it being true... I did see a fellow earn 47 (47!) SR in one FIA race this week, maybe after a reset... that seems impossible, but maybe if you are a A or B SR driver, there's a multiplier on the SR earned in a race, compared to S? If so, that's certainly part of the problem! Too easy to fake your way back into 'clean' races.)

I think there was a prior post here as well, in the penalties thread, confirming it was 0.3 per sector or something, for the same 10 with CRB:

One CRB in SR.B, worth +10 SR, a rarity since next race I got rammed off again, 3 sec penalty

Just that one incident, -1 SR for the race, 63 SR left.

That was a lovely SR.A + SR.S lobby.

There are plenty more where that came from and of course plenty SR Downs as well for getting hit plus "ignoring track limits" or "hit the barrier" penalty as result.

It's only the fun of GR.C at Sarthe that I'm back. If no N24 or GR.3 (or faster) Bathurst daily C next week, GTS goes back in the corner. Although I could be persuaded with GR.1 at Big Willow. It's been well over 2 years since we had that combo. Most tracks and cars aren't worth putting up with the BS.

I agree, I wish it was not as easy to gain back SR in the Daily Races, that way people like "Mr. La Sarthe" (@afc5150 knows who we speak of, #88) couldn't show up in A/B//S FIA event lobbies and ruin people's races.

@KosmoKazi if you look at the bum's Kudos, you'll see he had a near reset during last night's FIA race, quite likely your race as I was watching his stats "live", and he's already back to SR S, although his DR took a big hit from which he hasn't recovered.... yet. We're probably safe for this Saturday.

But he's a perfect example of how broken the rating system is. It's way too easy to game it and manipulate your rating, At least up to DR A...

There should be a S+ rating where you need to maintain SR S 90 and above for a number of days (5 or 10?) to obtain it, and those that do have their own races.... I dunno.

I rarely ever retaliate in a race. It's nearly impossible to tell someone is dirty for sure without watching the replay.
In a few cases it's apparent and in those I sometimes do what is needed to get out of harm's way.

Learning to brake properly will gain you more time than just about anything else in GT. 👍

I'm still trying to get this part figured out. Knowing when to brake is one thing, but knowing how much is so important too. And I still can't figure out trail braking! I have no problem partially pressing the R2 trigger to feather the throttle, but for some reason my left hand still only wants to press all or nothing with the L2 .

There should be some sort of contact buffer period, if you have a contact, it stays with you for 3 races and you can’t gain any SR until you clear the buffer period, that way these guys wouldn’t come flying right back to S after one race. If you have more contacts before clearing the buffer, you start over again.

I don't know why I bother thinking I should try a range of cars when I do dailies. I'll try all the Group C cars! Great idea. I went with the 908 first to get my eye in, really underestimating how much it would suffer on the straight. The Jag was up next, I even had to buy it since I didn't have one. Awful understeer. Gave a guy behind me a penalty after making a complete mess of the entire first sector. He reacted badly on the straight, trying to put me into the wall and brake checking me.

962 up next and this felt a lot better. Eventually I rage quit after making a mess of the Ford chicanes for the third lap running. By this point I relented and went for the Nissan, gradually attempting to work my qualifying time up in between races. Three things of note happened:

I was in a race with noted top split drivers Quinten and Nico, and I beat them. The back of the pack in these races is a complete shambles. The Dutch guy who finished 14th there was braking about four car lengths too early for the Mulsanne hairpin, and that was one of the more manageable quirks on offer.

Next race I started 4th and finished 2nd. Then I started on pole and did this:

Four people with a DR of A in the race. I'd not had a 3 star performance for a while so okay. My SR was up to 90 by this point and I thought the threshold for top split SR races was 91, so I went again. I went in a real lobby and started about 11th. After various deaths around me I finished 5th, which I was delighted with.

After all of that I gained about 200 DR for the day. What a productive experience. I'm never driving the non-meta in dailies ever again, unless the Gr.3 GT-R is at least competitive.

Nor do I. Usually because I can't catch 'em, but also because that will do nothing but cause further mayhem that others would then have to deal with or be caught up in.

But I did just want to in my last race. Punted in Mulsanne. Got going again fairly quickly, and watched the same driver punt another into the sand at Arnage. The punter was faster though, so got away. Karma took care of him a couple laps later. He was off at the Raccordement chicane as I came around. 5+seconds behind when he finally got going. And I guess he was trying to hard to catch up cause for the last two laps he kept losing time through his own mistakes.

Edit. He did NOT punt the other driver into Arnage. Just watched the replay, and the other driver went off on his own. Did punt me though. Not hard, but it could have been avoided. He was fast, but needs work on his controller. Wiggling and waggling all over the place.

Regarding bump drafting penalty: Maybe if someone faster is approaching from behind on the straight, just hit your Options button.

Penalty system is working, I just dropped from S to B in one race I admit, my fault.. Italian pissed me off so much that I decided to completely ruin his race... I cant stand this, you know, that type of guy, he slightly taps your back in braking zone to push you off track in white gloves, without penalty I mean... Just made me mad, I lifted after corner to let him pass, then ram him onto barriers, and again and again, finnaly sending him outerspace, 7s penaltys for me, little cost for satisfaction... Before this I was 6th, ended 13 or 14th... I DONT CARE, I am penalty system(this will be my welcome message in chat from now)

Gotta love it. A tap from behind on the straight, penalty to the wrong car. A tap from behind in a braking zone, sends a car offtrack, no penalty at all to the right car. All hail the penalty system.

Yeah, I don’t think people braking early in C are malicious. There’s several places I brake a little more than I should’ve cause of going off in the past. Add traffic and some break even earlier.

This is why I struggle as I approach A rating. Still working on my trail braking every turn, which means I can’t brake as late as most A drivers, which means I braking earlier than they expect.
This leads to a lot of unexpected stuff. So I generally give benefit of a doubt here.

Now... I HAVE been HEAVILY brake checked on the straight in C race. No question this is malicious lol. Both times were by people who already had well deserved penalties.

But live, everything is on edge. Nerves be tingling. It may be why I can't do as well as I'd like. If I'm still doing this in a couple years, maybe I'll have learned to be calm.

Fot me its ppl who go into race c and dont even know the brake markers.

Like if you brake 50m early and i hit you doing 250kph+ even tho i braked early to compensate and you still make the corner just fine then you probably braked way too ****ing early. My god it makes me mad. Because they get a boost through the corner and i just lose time trying to get back up to speed.

It was nice to finally meet you at the track!
I ran mostly to try out the new slipstream so I picked the fastest in a straight line even though it's not my preferred car. And so I went beaching in lap 1.
But I managed to repair and return to two spots ahead of my starting position.
The slipstream is different for sure, a lot harder to stay in.

Regarding the penalty for bump drafting I think it's because bump drafting is not a part of Asian or European race culture, it comes from America. So they didn't think we would do it. Or it's just sloppy coding so penalty always goes to the one gaining speed from the collision.

It can't be that unheard of though. I remember years ago watching the Chevy Lacetti teammates bump-drafting each other in a WTCC race (forgot the name of the track, but it was a very fast track with few corners that wasn't Monza). Definitely sloppy coding (doesn't seem to be any other kind lately).

I can't WAIT for the Nations FIA race at Route X with this new bump-drafting penalty...
I bet everyone is gonna be so happy after the entire field gets a DR reset...

Getting rid of the stupid bump-drafting penalty the first time was the ONLY good thing they'd done with the penalty system within the last year or so.

It’s not brake markers, it’s intentional punting and diving.
Last race entering Porsche some Demi alien had crashed lap 1 turn two so he was catching me towards the entry.
I stayed a little right so he wouldn’t dive in and smash me off. So he just used me for brakes instead and I was offed anyways.
Had a similar situation with one of the few people in this game capable of playing nice.
He forced me right, then entered wide. I held my line, he was able to overtake cleanly.
Ok so to the point I get hit into the sand lap 1. Rejoin, now bashed again twice later in the lap since they had got my slipstream.
But, really it’s bad because I have gotten to more or less the top of the game, top 1 percent...
BUT THE DRIVING IS STILL BAD IN MANY RACES.
Epic fail of PD to develop a rating system.

Edit It gets to a point where even if you don’t care at all about dr it’s still not fun because it’s almost impossible to get a clean race.
Yes I’m still 99. Even after getting bombed and punted off my last six races (b race and c race)
I’m no longer going to retaliate.
I’m just not going to subject myself to it. I’ve had some great fun in this game, it can be awesome, but the sportsmanship overall is getting worse all the time.
It seems like all the good times I had when players were treating it more like real racing are a distant memory.

Haven't made a video for a while, but had a great battle with PR1 Josete last week at Cataluyna that I clipped! Very fair racing from both of us (I hope) and really enjoyed the combo.

Thank you. I was about to ask if bump drafting was a technique that road racers use. I don't watch much road racing as my satellite subscription doesn't carry much. I know in open wheel it's a no-no.

So I'm sitting here reading the great race comments, and chuckling to myself at having to go to another tab to review my Le Mans track map. Everyone's so familiar with the track the names of all the features just roll off their tongues (fingers?).

Me... I'm like, Porsche? (flip the tab). Oh, there you are. Arnage, Dunlop, Tertre Rouge? (flip the tab) Oh... OK.

Again, maybe by next week I'll be able to see the features in my head. But then... A new track to learn. It's a forever catch-up game.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but I always look up the track corner names when I write a race report. The only ones I know pretty well are LeMans and that’s because it’s my favorite track. I still have to look it up for correct spelling though....

I hear ya. I'm very new. Didn't even have a PS4 till May 6. Got a wheel, a seat, and GTSport. Then I drove. Didn't come into an online race till I thought I was ready, a few weeks ago. Instant mayhem. I try to think of it as if I were paying the bills. If I had to buy the car, buy the tires, pay to REPAIR the car. Others, not so much.

Oh well. It still has it's moments. That one lap, even just a few turns, where you race someone with the same attitude, and it's a blast. I hold onto the thoughts of those moments. Otherwise I'd be looking at a poor return on my new investments.

Sometimes in racing you just end up snakebit, and it sucks. Like in that last one, two leaders got tangled up lap 1 so I was through lap 1 into second or third. I’m thinking FINALLY, even after they catch and overtake at least I will have space to drive.
It was extremely frustrating that the guy who put me off was one of those people who HAS TO GET BACK THROUGH IMMEDIATELY lol.
If it was at a track I was good at he would have had another thing coming lol
I’d rather blowoff steam in here than go out and go to their level and arcade ram them.
