If my lap times are close with the two transmissions, I'll go with A/T.
Today's race at Willow Springs is a good example. For me, M/T is only .02 faster. In the race, I'll certainly use A/T.
But with some race combos, M/T is a lot quicker. Might as well try both. 👍

Thanks, good advice. I have a consistent time on the Spa daily QT. Will use AT and compare.

Looking forward to racing Spa this afternoon. These cars feel so fast here! I only had time to run two qualy laps before work, but I think a 2:05.9xx is a good place to build from and seems to match up okay in the Americas.

I have a question for y'all. How does the false start check work on a wheel using manual transmission? Do I hold the shift up while revving like in the F1 games? I'm sure I'll figure it out after a couple races, but if you can save me from looking like a complete idiot before I do it is appreciated.
usually i will have trac control set to 1or 2 keep your foot planted on accelerator hold brake and wait for lights out or green cant remember which happens be ready for 1 st to second shift almost immed I always have trac on 2 so I am off and running at that point

Hi all, I have been lurking on this site for while.

I too noticed that most others were using AT (automatic) based on replay mode. I thought it was a bug until I saw one or two other in MT mode. It did not meet my expectation based on what I have read and observed on YouTube advice and lap guides. I run in mostly B lobbies that have a mix of the other DRs.

Is it true that the wheels mistakenly mask the AT/MT setting? If so it would make more sense as I expected the top A+/S drivers to be using MT. It would also make sense if most A+/S drivers had wheels and hence masked the MT setting.

So what do you guys use? AT/MT? Do most top A/A+/S players really use AT?

I use MT on the Dualshock 4 controller. It is what I am accustomed to and I admit every race I blow a shift or downshift but overall it gives me some more control.

As far as I know it's been this way for awhile now, the only reason I switched to M/T was to be more competitive in FIA, felt like I reached a plateau not being able to save fuel. Honestly I was just as fast in A/T as I am using M/T DR A.

For the guys missing gears using M/T try using the right analog to change gears much more smooth, IMO compared to using the buttons.

I use AT, can't quite get my fingers to work MT. I get a numb hand at some tracks from just feathering the throttle, age & prob smoking related. I have noticed when I get to a certain level I can't quite keep up even when I've got the perfect line and exit speed, figured it was down to better gear control. More noticable in N class at the Ring etc. I use TCS 2 so that is a factor too.
As for learning racecraft, start at the back without any intention of winning, watch those ahead and see how u can get around and in front safely. Most importantly of all, look 2 3 corners/cars ahead.
Moral of the story... If you want to use MT on a controller don't smoke your head off for 40 plus years, hashcakes are the way to go :cheers:

They need a new team, ASAP.

I don't know. Over the past half year, dailies are more varied than ever with experimentation thrown in like the recent SSRX race. I think they've listened after a majority complained over originality and recycled races.

I'd have agreed if we rolled the calendar back during mid to late 2019 when it was Race A Tsukuba, Race B Suzuka and Race C Fuji over and over.

I miss that one make around Maggiore Centre with the 500!

I don't. Please don't give them ideas. ;)

That's probably why but I've only been playing since February so I always notice the BRZ, Porsche, FuguZ love fest it feels like they get used often.

Yes, most of the top players use MT. You cannot trust the replays, it's a bug. I've heard that using a wheel is what causes it to be mixed up, but I can't confirm if that's the cause. Learning to use MT, you will be slower at first because of the missed shifts, hitting the rev limiter, experiencing oversteer when you downshift. However, in the long term you will be faster and will gain more control over your car. You can slow the car quicker using downshifts, or learn to induce the oversteer on purpose when needed. Also, probably the biggest advantage is fuel-saving and optimal shift points. Some cars are actually faster when you shift them early, so if you always use AT, there will be some cases where it would be impossible to get the most out of that car if you're always revving it out. Gr.3 Corvette for example, and also the Gr.3 Beetle, both like to be shifted early for optimal pace. It's a tough transition but it will make you better.

I have a question for y'all. How does the false start check work on a wheel using manual transmission? Do I hold the shift up while revving like in the F1 games? the best way is to use the handbrake instead of the brake pedal. Since the handbrake is just a button for most people, it can be released instantly. If you use the brake pedal it will take you a split second longer to release it fully. Hold the handbrake and rev the engine to max rpm's without hitting the rev limiter. If you give it full throttle, you will be hitting the rev limiter constantly so there's a chance that when the lights go out, it could be right at the exact moment you hit the limiter, which will slow you down. So the idea is to rev up the engine as much as possible without hitting the limiter, then release the handbrake and give it full throttle at the same time right when the lights go out. Also make sure to have TCS on 1 or higher for any standing start...unless you're in a very low-powered car that won't lose traction.

Interesting grid start technique @Winnie847. I noticed a while back too you only need a tiny sliver of brake input, too. Sitting there limiter bouncing is definitely rolling the dice.

all I did was start watching the replays in the top split lobbies to see how these guys were beating me off the line. I used to just mash the brake and the throttle, with mixed results. Sometimes you'll get a good jump, but every once in awhile you hit that limiter at the right (wrong) time and get left in the dust.

It's not specifically in the rules, but it is technically required. Both tyre types are mandatory (like it says in the article), so you're going to need to stop to swap from one to the other...

The one time I don't read the article they decide to make both compounds mandatory. It wouldn't matter. I'm in the mindset that if RM tires are allowed, RH are required.

That's why I thought it was weird that the game was putting me Hard tires in the front and Mediums on the back.

:odd: I thought PD patched that out.

I usually make sure the transmission is in 1st gear & do like Sammy Hagar says: 1 foot on the brake & 1 on the gas. Hey!!

Remember that one guy I posted about last week? He’s now GT Idiot of the Week (hell of all time in my book.)

@KiepeYai was second.

Big Willow has always had the best post-race chats. So many angry people today.

Steering block again at Suzuka

Anyone else?

I had it this morning at Suzuka, I had just done laps in the F-type and wanted to try the Citroen and never even got to cross the start line before my screen froze and the wheel wanted to go full lock to the left..had to restart GTsport and unplug the wheel to correct it! I've had it a few times over the last few months.. I thought I was the only one  I use G29 btw is it specific to that wheel or do other wheels get it also?

Never had it on csl...

Well, I ran a qual session, for a, all aids on default everything, I only got 31.3
I suck. If I invested more time it could be lowered quite a lot with default everything, aids on, on the line. 31.3 and I never really came close to hitting things right...Short but difficult, a timeless design, definitely...
For me:
It is HARD to enter turn 1 properly, turn 2 I can get the car set MOST times but not always and carry 91-2 holding flat (tcs 3)
Turns 3-4 very very difficult to hit correctly on the line balancing the car carrying speed...The last turn I’m good usually. I lose time entering turn 1 proper and not carrying enough speed up the hill on the tight left, then the odd time I do I upset the Apple cart on the downhill left leading onto that back straightish section...
It’s a challenging track to get right in any car, definitely.
I love this track because it’s like that for real too. It says HERE I AM DO YOU HAVE THE GUTS.
No tricks, no cheats, it’s honest, it’s in your face, basically questioning your manhood...(you have more room to track edge over there heheIts a fantastic glorious design, just challenging to hold the line properly.)
My lap is not proper lol, but I’m still learning.

I use DS4
It only happens in online races when left turning

Penalty system at it again. Down to A/A last night, after Race C.
Don't know why players are lifting at Eau Rouge. I ran th back of a player, the one behind me rams me back into the player ahead. Orange arrow and penalty for me.

Started 4th. Get sent down to 14th. Recover for 7th.

Race B was better. The FFs struggle with acceleration, which gives me a better run to get in the slipstream. I'll try the C7 right now.

Edit: Another red "A". Cayman losses it in the esses at the start. I currently underneath. The M4(down the order), wants to cut underneath me! We bounce off each other and he gets stuck in the kitty litter. I press on with 2 seconds.
Qualifying with the Vantage.

Edit2: Anooooother 2 seconds. Down to A/B. I'm tailgrabbing the Supra. A Viper spins at the final chicane. It's unghosting. We pass it. It taps my right rear. I get 2 seconds!
Serve my penalty. RCZ passes me. I pass it before the underpass on the last lap and bolt away.
Supra goes off at the final chicane, but recovers.
DWG gives me the Ulcercan. I'll qualy aagain and try the Viper.

So although my 91 wins trophy has been achieved (see yesterday's post) I see Spa has returned with Gr 2's for this week.

I am guessing best choice of car for this one is the Motul GT-R 16 as am thinking I might do a couple of races to break the monotony of the Blue Moon Bay grind as reached Level 48 yesterday but still a long way to go to 50!

Also got to try for the 15 race clean streak but not sure if any races this week will have any chance of doing that?

Been having fun in the desert of Big Willow tonight. And it is a desert in terms of players as well. Almost same couple of players up front each race, over a second a lap back to p4. Everyone must be up at Spa or something:D

Had an epic race where 3 of us gapped it lap 1. Turn 1 lap 2 they go 2 wide and touch, leaving a gap and I get a twofer for the lead and manage to hold it until the last lap when i get run down. Passed just before the final turn so i grow a massive pair and take that turn wide for a huge cutback. It ends up a drag to the line.
0.008 seconds ahead for the win.

Then called it a night next race after a reset master with a 35pct win rate tried to pit wall me as I had a big run down the front straight. I decided to side wall him off at the big sweeper right uphill. Apparently he doesnt like it when you return favors.

Gr.2 Spa is fun, I've never been much good with Gr.2, so went in with the NSX '16, as I've only got that and the '08 Lexus, I was the only NSX on the grid, all the others were GT-Rs, and only one '08 model!!

Just did some practice laps without setting a time, and started 16th, somehow avoided most of the T1 chaos to go up to 12th, although picked up a 1s penalty for a tap somewhere in Eau Rouge and Radillon, and then with some crashing ahead I was in 8th after Les Combes. Got up to 5th at one point, but span all on my own at Campus on lap 7 and dropped to 9th, although back up to 8th by the end as someone else did the same.

The NSX was pretty good, don't think I really lost out to the GT-Rs in any particular area, and it's fun to be different. I went with 5M/4H as I didn't know how the mediums would last, will probably start on the hards next time. though.

To you guys that weawe on the straights on Spa when someone is behind you in slipstream... Don't. You got two moves, after that you are dirty. Two moves, and then you pick a line and stick to it. And pick a side in the brake zone...
If you don't do this then watch the videos again to learn how to "not make yourself look bad". This should be a higher priority than a dubvious win...

There's a link in my signature, you should read that.
