Well, since my day went way off the rails yesterday and i didn't get to race at all, when i was expecting to get a few solid hours in, with a short work day. Today and tomorrow i will be doing as much racing as i can because i dont think I'll be doing much next week. Might use the opportunity in race B to improve my abilities in gr2 cars, but it will be solo laps or cruising at the back

Funny enough i did try to run some warm up laps for race A yesterday when i got home, and in the process of discovering i was just to tired from a stupid work day, i cut my qt by almost a full .1

Preview:
Race A) specially provided Gr. 4 = FF cars. That's a "no" for me.

Race B) love the cars, hate the track. Sounds like the SF/RBR combo we have this week. I'll probably drive it a couple races, lose SR/DR, get pissed off & not touch it for the rest of the week.

Race C) come to Papa. Might be another combo for me to up my DR/SR. Did anybody see tire & fuel multipliers for this race?

Fuel x3, Tyres x7 for race C. I'm a big fan of group 3 but I'm not a big fan of Maggiore, so we'll see if I do any dailies next week.

fuel x3 RHtire x7 10 laps

... snip ...:dunce:

Upshot being, 3 qual laps on mediums all quicker than 15.4 and I'm now qualified with a 14.7. Still not spectacular, but at least I now appear in the front half of the grid.:O

I posted a note earlier in the week for QT for the SF at Red Bull Ring - the aero on these cars is ridiculous compared to Gr 3.

*Much* higher minimum speeds are needed in the last three corners compared to Gr 3:
  • Second lefthander of the left hander double : near 200 kph minimum.
  • Penultimate corner : 215 kph in 5th.
  • Final corner: 175 in 4th.
A drop to a lower gear in the final two corners means the speed is not sufficient for a good time. It feels like you are on ice for the final two corners.

Additionally, in turn 1 you need to go wide on the left curbing entry. The gain is 3/10ths compared to the normal racing line. That technique was not obvious to me as left of the curbing seemed to be out of bounds but apparently is not.

Having said that I have managed a 1:14.3 and no better.

There is a LOT of time in Turn 1, start way left and absolutely CHUCK it to the right and on the gas as you throw it right. I have an optimal of 14.3 and sector 1 at 19.1 for reference.

Other one is the second last corner, again, absolutely throw it in and on the gas before you think you can be. Solid half second there vs being sensible.

you know what I have found interesting on RBR is turn 1 lap 1 I have been taking that really wide to avoid the carnage sometimes. I mean wide like all 4 wheels in the red white paint and not re entering until after the curbs. If you do that any other time during the race it's a penalty

Same. I got away with that on the start. I blew the first corner, went wide, entered after the yellow sausage finished, and no penalty.

The game takes into account how much time you gain (if any) when going wide, so on lap 1 you won't get penalties because the traffic is slowing you down enough.
I guess this explains it, because when i go over the limit and lift enough i usually dont get a penalty but its a different case when you do pedal to the metal , during the last lap i just exceed the limit on purpose for FL though, you can get +1 and still keep it

Sardendna in reverse is a good track. Easy to learn with quite a few available lines when it falls apart ahead.
The Jag is doing a reasonable job of keeping up & have managed a couple of wins. Had one guy make a mistake, I went under him & he tried to put me into the wall, so I finished him at the next turn, wasn't happy, called me a "pig" kept my reply simple with "I push back"

Had a great afternoon of racing yesterday. Had more than a few friends in just about every race, and a TPC mate @Jwptexas in just almost every one. It was great racing with you yesterday man  and while i messed up more than a few of my own races, by having to be at my limit to try and keep up to you, it was great racing all the way through the field, clean and fair. The couple races i managed to hold on to you were great, especially that last one with @Pigems also.

Back on today for the majority, i hope....

Only had about a half hour or so to hop on and do some qualifying laps yesterday and went to race A. What a fun challenge. Such a real balancing act including braking, shifting and coasting points there. So much speed to gain just by keeping things super stable. Dont have the confidence to actually race with people as every 3rd or 4th lap I am off to hang out with the barriers. Enjoyed the hot lap challenge though.

Since I've been on race B all week, I decided to run a few more. Trying something different though. Running the Mustang on the dark account. I made some interesting discoveries. First, I finally was able to wheel the car to within 0.2 of my best QT on the Viper. Second, I had a purple sector on the final lap of the first race using it. The fastest lap at the time was a 1:42.xxx. Practice everybody, practice. Guess this old pony isn't ready for the glue factory after all.

Were you in the last race with me? It's crazy hour in....um...our favorite country.
We’re different regions, so no. But given your response I suppose I could’ve. Thought I’d utilise setting a decent time at race B but I’m understanding it’s a complete waste of time. The sheeple really can’t drive and penalties are honestly a joke.

I love this game and have a soft spot for the daily races but I think tonight was the first time I said "F THIS GAME". Honestly so goddamn tired of all the bull. Why bother?

I do feel your pain. Ran 5 races & abused in 2, messed myself up in 2, but scraped together 2 decent finishes. Net loss of SR: 4. Net gain of DR: 3500. I'll take it with this penalty system.

Yeah, could’ve easily gone the other way.

I have this thing where I’d like to end every day I’ve been in sport mode at SR 99, kind of like a joke OCD type thing. I know I’m clean and I’d like to keep that beautiful straight SR line in kudosprime which is why it’s so frustrating when you’re pushed down 20 or thereabouts in one ridiculous race where you’re not at fault. And then I’m forcing myself to keep racing until I’m back at 99. I do wonder if some of those days maybe I should just give up instead of fighting.

not OCD at all-same here-we just want to be clean drivers-suggest you get an alt account-i resisted for years as it sort of felt like cheating and encouraged bad driving but it is so liberating to race without the stress of PD`s inconsistent penalties ruining your race!!

Very true. The garbage driving of other people led to an alternate profile (or 2) where I would be less bothered by the DR/SR system. At one time, I had all 3 at about the same level (~20K/99). But when my main account started to bear the brunt of the penalty system, I switched over to the alts. Thankfully, my DR on the worst account was able to rise, even though I had to dish out some payback. :mischievous: Film at 11.

Seriously. I finally created an alt specifically for dailies. I only take the main into dailies when I'm extremely confident in the combo and my ability to finish in front.

I’ve realised this seems to be something very common among the community. While I understand the purpose and the relief an alternative account may provide it’s not for me. I’d hate to have statistics split between a main and a throwaway account.
