Stopped using cones when one FIA race the cone moved the 1st lap (it's possible to nudge the cone an inch/foot without noticing). Luckily I vaguely remembered where it was using the stripes. Don't trust the cones. They are getting revenge on us for running over them all the time.

@RacingGrandpa @Groundfish @NevilleNobody Well yeah, that's what I said, you get the 'muscle memory' after doing a few races so why wouldn't you have them on? It's better to take advantage of them when you can, I have exclusively relied on cones on some corners, but on corners where other braking points like distance markers, ends of kerbs etc are better, I use those.
It's all for fun though, I personally feel like cones help a lot but if you guys don't use them, that's cool too.
Oh I love the cones but several times I got to a corner and they were missing and binned it, plus other times they got stuck under my car. I use off track items or kerbs as a marker now.

After my one race SR debacle yesterday I am turning over a new leaf. I’m changing up the playlist for C race starting here.

I’m certain changing from AC/DC to more soothing tunes will help my SR.
Follow me for more tips!

This is now the most intense song that will play in the helmet in group 2...

I use cones all the time, some tracks have certain corners where there isn’t much for a brake mark, so they help in those cases. If someone knocks them off on you, just hit pause on the straight away and turn them off, and then back on quickly and they all reset, easy peasy. 👍

Ok, my tip for that section is that I brake just at the start of the green astroturf on the left but I lift off the brake earlier than I think I need to and balance the throttle to help rotate the car. This lets me hit full throttle in a straight line to the outside kerb and avoids the back getting squirrelly. It also helps if you short shift to 3rd, but that’s not an option in auto. Too many guys brake too late for that corner and lose a chunk of time through the next sector as a result (or worse, force others off because they can’t stop on the apex).

Another small tip in the Group 2 cars is that they have terrible turbo lag, so it pays to keep the throttle on just a little bit in slow corners to avoid losing the boost.

@D_Dragline,

Nice observations and advice.

As I recall (and forgot until your CoD vs last corner note), in general, the most important corner at any track is the one that precedes the longest straight. Of course, it means you need to work on the exit speed vs braking distance.

I noticed the top lappers dipping to 2nd gear on the final turn whereas I felt 3rd was fine at 125 kph. I didn't know about the turbo lag. I bet the 2nd gear thing, like your throttle feathering, is also related to keeping revs up.

That means the last corner is the most important one followed by Larini-2 (I see two Larini billboarded right turns in the horseshoe).

I will make an argument that the last corner at Seaside is damn near perfection. You can run multiple lines, brilliant for passing and also punishes you if you mess it up. It is absolutely perfect.

It reminds me, to some degree to T1 at Bathurst. Now Hell Corner is a bit different as you cannot run multiple lines but you better get the corner right or you get murdered up the mountain.

Are we really doing the whole aids thing again?...

I use the driving line always but as an alterative reference point. For example, on the final corner at Seaside I using it to first travel wider and then come back in for a later apex in the hopes of finding a faster exit.

I use cones to learn the track and then dispense with them and find more permanent markers. The exception is the Nordschleife. When I turned them off I lost 3 seconds on what felt like a fast lap. Just not ready yet.

I use TCS depending on the car and track. I used to run TCS=0 but have come back around on this one.

I never use auto except in an attempt to understand my less-than-expected lap times. Sturk suggested this once. I immediately found that I could unexpected go a little faster in auto! That little experiment allowed me to find an additional 1.0 seconds on Group2/Spa in manual mode.

Thr absolute quickest lap time is the traditional line, but again, you have to nail it including maintaining high mid corner speed.

If passing though, and by that I mean into t1, take a high, high line and you can lay into the gas a bit earlier giving you a better top end into t1.

I’ll be out there agin tonight...

Why? You can only crash with your own cones, they're modelled locally on each player's PS4.
I didn't know this and I've never had an issue hitting one, just a laugh at the cars flying.

Does anyone here actually enjoy the Europcar turn (T13) and RACC chicane (T14 & 15) at Catalunya? They’re trash in my opinion, not enjoyable to drive at all. A mutilated track, I liken it to the destruction of Hockenheimring.

Somebody probably loves them, but then some people like marmite. I just did a race, a little break from C, and it all sucks, Q11 so just out of the chicane meaning T1 I don't have to worry about those behind. Is it T3 the hairpin? Anyway it's dodgems move up several places, next corner some idiot keeps braking, but after all that I'm in 2nd with a 3 sec pen and 6 secs behind leader. PZ drop to 4th. Lap 4 get passed and leader spins (he could have walked the lead he had) 3rd drives off at T13 and I get a 3rd place. But there was no racing just avoiding crashing and trying not to get a pen.
For tracks like this they really need to soften the pens especially for little bumps at breaking, but increase them for side collisions which generally are the worst thing and the least penalised.

If those are the last couple of corners, then I agree. There’s a special place in hell for those last couple corners of Catalunya!

Like, the other final corner is already in the game, we should at least have the option to use it. Same for NGP, we should be able to use the N24 version for the final chicane on NGP, it’s already in the game, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to use it.

Problem with cones is they can be moved and now you're in all sorts of trouble.

I've been fortunate to have that muscle memory when I find my little cone minions have been kidnapped. I've won several races even when others have attempted to sabotage my victory.

I've been in a race or two where someone pushed the cones and distance markers a few feet forward. That was Big Willow T9 a few months ago.

See above. Of course, I'm also willing to make my own braking point in that corner & drive it halfway into the desert to make a pass.

I am so done with people who have absolutely no race skills! Twice in race A today I have had drivers cut front of me after not quite completing a pass. They clip my front bumper, put themselves sideways 6 inches in front of me - resulting in me getting a 4 sec penalty. I have kept my SR at S for 40 consecutive days. I pride myself on racing clean. These morons are beneath contempt!

Then why can other drivers knock over your cones?
Maybe I'm not understanding you.
They don’t see them, only you do. If their car passes through the spot you have a cone, they only interact in your view, not theirs.

Your car might be launching into the air in other player’s views even though you just push a cone on the road and drive on unaffected.

I'll vouch for you. 👍
I didn't really see what happened there. I came around the corner and saw cars sliding around, so I just full-throttled through the middle of it.

If you race in Sport mode, you just have to accept that you will sometimes get punished for no good reason.
But sometimes, you will benefit when it happens to the people in front of you. :)

I’ve raced you and you are clean. I feel your pain. I quit C race tonight after the third one because play was getting silly.
I got knocked back lap 2 from 4th to eleventh.
I was able to recover back to sixth but it was just annoying and I didn’t get to race the better guys I was too busy dodging the midpack A S dirt.
Decided to turn off the game. I’ve seen enough swerve blocking and dumb moves for tonight!
Last night was great, tonight wasn’t very good.

One last time, the cod is unnecessary. It juat ruins races on an otherwise brilliant rack.

4 races, hit it hard in 3 of them a total of 5 times, butchering 3 of my 4 races.

I'm out, cannot deal with it anymore.
