Haven't seen much said about Race A this week, but after a couple of weeks away from the game, found that one to be the most fun for me... the car really rewards you when you don't overdrive it, and while it's an odd match at Monza (someone forgot to tell the Clio that it's the "Temple of Speed"!) the racing is fun, and if you're careful, pretty easy to pick up both free and earned positions even if you aren't qualified in the top 3 or 4.

Hope to grind it out some more before the weekend is over... and to improve my QT. Ran a 2:16.4 in a race, which is faster than my current QT, so I'm sure I could get to 16.0 or close with more than the hour's worth I played last night.

Pick up the slack at Brands Hatch so we can race again, been forever! RB Jr at Seaside? Good seeing ya on track yesterday!

Ha! Yeah I was embarrassed you saw that QT on my alt account... I don't have many Gr3 cars to choose from on that account, so was stuck with the Vette, I only put in three laps before jumping in a race to kill time, and my BH pace isn't up there with some of my better tracks, so it was humbling... but also: getting matched with top split guys, there's no way I'm getting to a top 5 starting position there this week! Been taking a bit of a break from playing the last couple of weeks, too, but maybe I'll bump into you if I jump in again before the weekend is over.

Lol!! You're much faster than that! Breaks away from this game are great, imo. Come back fresh and even faster than before. I'll be at Brands tonight and this weekend maybe I'll catch ya out on track!

Same with the Mustang. 3rd to 10th. I didn't get beat up either. Tyres fell off a cliff by Lap 5.
It was like a BTCC race, with a train of cars whizzing by. Even a GT-R passed me and the driver waved good-bye.
Say we raced in that grid before. Must say props to using that Mustang.

As for me I dropped like 3 positions in my 86. Almost fended off the TT users had the sausage curbs didn't screw me over.

Thanks for that bit of info! Quick question I'm betting you could answer... do the brakes need to be warmed up?

That I don't know, although my main thought process when racing is the tyres (When there is wear). To me it appears the tyre temps matter, I don't think the game calculates brake temps but I can't be 100% sure.

Thank you!!

If that's the case then next week might be my week off aswell

I've learned to take some time off if I start to get burnt out and each time my pace usually is quicker than before

I haven't noticed any type of brake fade, so I don't think it's part of the simulation. Imagine what fun it would be if they added that. Ever overheat 4 wheel drum brakes or get them wet?

If they went that far to “Sim”, we’d probably lose a lot of the player base. ACC has all that stuff and they don’t have half of the player base of GT as far as I’m aware. Seems like most people don’t want full on sim, GT seems to be the happy medium between sim and arcade. Example, if pit stops in GT ever became like they are in ACC, I’d probably stop playing myself.

I am one of those. I am an absolute motorsport nut and understand all of the tech side but I don't want to deal with it. Soaks way too much time, way too much, it's endless once you go down that rabbit hole.

I’m the opposite, I have never watched a full race before in my life, I just like to drive cars fast. I have ACC but it just collects dust because I can’t be bothered to put the time into it that it requires just to do a single race even. With GT, you can jump in and be racing within minutes, ACC is way to complicated.

Good morning friends,
After experiencing some success in the R8 I’ve decided to customize it...

That's a very good question... I suspect Tidgney is right... I worked at an automaker, on brakes, including testing of brake performance in track situations and measuring brake fade along with changes in braking performance at temperature. It would be a very complicated model to try and implement, and the variation from one car to the next would require a lot of data or credible assumptions, to differentiate between models. Nor have I ever noticed any change in braking performance, that doesn't seem attributed to tire temperature, when racing in the game. But I'd be interested to see under the hood at PD to know for sure. (As I would, the tire model, which I'm sure is pretty basic compared to what Michelin could actually provide.)

The model for a race car, with carbon/ceramic brakes versus road car brakes would also require pretty different models, which further complicates the idea. Again, it's possible PD have built in a rudimentary brake performance model, but I've never noticed anything that would suggest they have, outside of the tires.

(PS, I'm pretty hard on the brakes, to a fault, so I'd have expected to notice if it was doubly penalizing to me, if the brakes were not performing as well in abuse conditions... something I need to work on to get faster, as a side note.)

There are so many similar modeling questions that I would wonder about, if PD were open to explaining the game:

1) track temp / humidity, rubber / surface impacts, and humidity impacts on tire model / traction
2) air temp vs HP, differentiated for turbo/intercooled cars, impact on engine performance curves
3) variation in track material (concrete vs asphalt) and environmental impacts

I ran two races at Laguna Seca in the Audi TT using tire saving techniques.

Firstly, it is easy to no-stop in the Audi TT and light/managed braking is the key.

Specifically, I wanted to compare the effect of TCS=0 vs TCS=3. In the end there is little difference on tire wear. While the wear was a bit greater on TCS=3 I also had a heavy trip through the gravel in that race. Lap times were comparable. TCS=0 is on the left and TCS=3 is on the right. So, as far as TCS is concerned... it is "pick your pleasure" for this combo.

Edit: if properly managed the tire will have >60% tread by the end of the race. Your times will drop off by 1.0 to 2.0 seconds in the later stages.

Edit 2: To be clear, I had multiple 1:29.* laps, maintaining a competitive race pace.

Can't understand why a pre-race disconnection should cost you 5 SR points. :irked:
PD.

I'm glad I'm sticking to Race B. Had this fine race tonight. Again a case of keeping it on the track and capitalising on other's mistakes.

Only issue was I lost SR from the couple of small bumps in the first two laps. Rest of the race was clean so it is extremely annoying.

Had a few fun races last night. Noticed a lot of variation of cars in the A-B/S splits. Only half the cars are of the FF variety!

Qually time on race C is key. I finally worked hard to get my Megane trophy time down to almost 1:28 even. I personally might have another 3/4 of second somewhere in there, but that remains to be seen. If I was smart.... I’d spend about an hour hammering out a good qually time in the TT, then just use the Megane. But that’s kind of cheating.

one race in particular had me getting two , 4 second penalties on consecutive laps after cars in front of me did TCS 0 - induced spin outs leaving me with nowhere to go but into them. Each time I was around P4 and had to work back up from around P8.

At about lap 8, I finally caught back up to the front 3 (all of them TTs, and all pushing really hard). Not wanting to risk another BS penalty, I for once decided to play it smart and follow them around for a couple laps at a distance, being that it was just a matter of time before their pace couldn’t match the tire wear.

about 2 laps later, 3rd place TT comes in way too hot at the top of corkscrew and yard-sale’s..... taking him and P2 out. I quickly catch up to P1 by the last corner, and latch onto his bumper for 2 laps....sticking a wheel in on almost every corner trying to pressure him into a mistake. At the end up lap 12, inevitability occurs and he ghost-rides the whip into the sandbox at 90 degree right hander at the bottom of corkscrew. The final lap is purely a victory lap to wave at the spectators as I’m a full 21 seconds ahead of my nearest competitor.

I powerslide into the checkers and bask in the glory of my 50th “W”. Get an SR down for the race to low “S”..... presumably for my 2 mishaps in the beginning of the exhibition. Gonna hop in the Beetle and focus on Brands Hatch today

Can you share that livery? I couldn't get my Cobra Kai SVG small enough to upload.

So you're the guy in race B yesterday saying Kobra Kie never dies in pre race chat

That was probably one of my alts. I forget which, I set the message when the show first moved to Netflix.

Ok, let me try this. Yes, having TCS on will reduce wheel spin in most cases, BUT, and this is a big BUTT, Wheel spin is not the(or at least shouldn’t be) biggest cause of tire wear in a lot of cases. Heavy Braking is,
You have changed my life with this comment, did a race focusing on trying to minimize the amount of red bar under braking and the tire wear is soooo much better. 💡

Interesting few races this afternoon. Finished work at lunch so made a big dent in the Beetle livery I'd been planning for a while, then got stuck into some dailies.

Started with Race A because I couldn't be bothered waiting for Race C. Threw in a couple of qually laps, which I thought were fairly terrible, and was 8th on the grid. Oddly enjoyed this one, a very clean race and ended up 5th.

Then moved on to Race C. Jumped into the Trophy and was sitting in third on the grid! Top of the hill on lap two, sitting in 2nd, and some nutcase in a Scirocco decides to divebomb the 5 or so cars all in the braking zone, and of course I got taken out, with a 1.5s penalty for my sins. Struggled back to 5th, then ended up getting some stupid penalties fighting a TT and dropped back to 8th. Managed to hold on to my tyres while all the FF cars tyres died and got back up to 3rd! My best finish here!

Trouble with that race though, my SR took a battering and I dropped back down to A...

Next lobby I'm in 7th on the grid, and I had a complete meltdown. End of lap 1, I'm 15th!!! Taken out, yet again, by a clown dive bombing. Fought my way back through the field to finish 11th after some fairly hectic hazard avoidance throughout the race.

Gained nearly 2k DR but dropped 7 SR overall after all three races (dropped 23 SR in the second race alone!!)

Still enjoying Race C, hoping Mount Panorama is as enjoyable next week...

My best races have been with the Hyundai. Shadowed a TT from Lap 2- 13, after dispatching a Slophy. I made a move on Lap 12 T1, from the outside, as I had the better pace from Lap 9. The TT wasn't blocking and was quick enough for us to keep a steady gap(1.5s) to the Slophy behind all race. Numb finger began around Lap 5, but I was managing until Lap 11.
Back to Lap 12. The move didn't cost us any time. So, the Slophy was still no threat. From the PZ through the end of the Lap, I could make a move. TT didn't block all race. I stay patient for the last lap. Got a run and took the inside into T1. Had to pull up early and the Genesis didn't have enough grip. TT got the switchback. We were still good.
My finger was numb for the two left-handers, before the run up the hill to the Corkscrew. No feeling and couldn't modulate the throttle. Went wide and recovered for entry to the Corkscrew. Car went wide again and the Slophy goes through. Had to settle for 5th(moved up one spot). Awesome clean racing.
