I was just very fortunate in that situation! I watched it back and the red GTR started on pole, was P4 on the final lap and had an absolute shocker. Spun at the hairpin at the bottom of the hill, slow into the chicanes and had a massive group of cars behind him, panicked and smacked into the inside wall, into the outside wall, and then ghosted and slowly tried to recover. The Lambo immediately behind him took avoiding action and smacked the wall, that backed everyone up and I was just lucky enough to be the only one not impacted by the loss of concentration by the GTR!

And this is perfectly fine and reasonable. Everyone has different motivation, technique and approach. I can reliably do an entire race with no TCS without losing the car BUT I am more vulnerable to idiots.

I was just noting that this is a combo where there is a very obvious down side to running TCS.

Ran a couple of Race Bs in the Ferrari last night, enjoying seeing a bit of variety in Gr.4 for once instead of blanket FFs.

Didn't set a time at first, and started last, had a good battle with another Brit in a Vantage with a good police livery, and a Italian in a full matte black Lambo, and made up a few places with people going off, the Vantage crashed at the start of the final lap, and I was alongside the Lambo into the esses, when he just shoved me off, which span me back to last, turned out in post race chat he'd taken the Vantage out as well, hope I get to race against that Brit again, very close respectful racing.

Qualified 5th for my second race and had another fun one, we were still in the same order nose to tail when we got to the chicane the first time, and in 5th I was only 1.3s from the lead, and only the Audi in 4th clipped the inside on the last bit, fortunately ghosting worked quickly enough and I moved up one. Clipped the wall after the chicane lap 2 and lost a place, but got it back again at the hairpin before the chicane, and didn't have enough time to get back to the leading three so finished 4th.

I'm not a fan of the reduced penalties, however with everyone pooled together, the quali times are so close which is making for some great racing, even if there is the occasional dirty driver.

Gonna open up a can of worms here (or not... gotta see): Was this overtake dirty? In my eyes, it wasn't clean but I'm unsure how I could've dealt with differently without completely backing out.

From that one angle, it appears that someone blocked a faster car. They moved over while you were along side of them. Nothing dirty by you. Carry on.

Exactly. I did the coolest move ever on the S curves. Overtook two cars while flying by the seat of my pants. I had built up a nice amount of speed and really wasn't interested in slowing down. Sometimes you just gotta throw up a prayer. I love those movie moments in this game.

Got a nice phantom penalty in the chicane of death, no idea why. Other than that, this is a good race to not qualify high as the racing is quite fun, since my DR is quite low again due to a number of game crash so I am racing Ds and Cs.

1st lap, don't worry about that clown elbows you out of the way, just keep calm and carry on as you will magically make 3 or 4 places at the chicane or the corner before, it is so much fun. Best part is when car behind get sideways enough so that they don't ghost and leading to 3 a breast in the final corner, which either let me gallop away in front or catch up from behind.

I complain about clowns, the biggest one is me. I sent a guy wide accidentally in the final corner, I thought it was BS penalty but it turns out I was in the wrong...ish. If I was in racing line but sliding wide, but another car who went very wide and is coming in, he is slightly in front, who gives way? I felt that because he had less speed and out of line he should. Though to be fair, I didn't even see him there even though I should and I was drifitng wider than I should as I carried too much speed, but it was a pretty unsafe re-enter of racing line.

Then in the next race, I blew a potential win/2nd by misjudging completely in the final corner of lap 2 and slid into 1st. Felt so guilty I waited for them to recover before I go on, and backed off later in the race when they were challenging me. Finished 7th. Stupid part is, no penalty for me. Like, there was no good reason for me to be braking so late without doing an overtake, I should have no complaints if I got 10 second a plummet in SR.

If he's got his nose in front you should be giving him space through the corner. If he's on your rear corner and you're on the inside then you should be able to push as hard as you want and he should technically back out as you have track position.
 
Now that SR doesn't exist, I am getting a feel for my true pace and it is, sadly, confirmation I am as slow as I thought. I have been as high as 37K DR but with SR bouncing abut you can beat up n slower guys as you recover. This past few weeks, it's really all down to pace and I am absolutely stuck between 26K and 28K.

I just cannot run with my high B peers at seaside, qualifying around 10th and racing there as well, picking up spots through sheer patience, cunning and craftiness but losing spots on pace.

Had one cracker of a race going last night, lots of High B and A drivers, qualified 13th. Slowly picked my way up to 6th, seemed to take every correct option to yield or let guys run too deep or avoid stupid fights, like 3.75 laps of perfect decision making. Last lap, took too much of the left curb at COD and slammed into the wall on the right, finishing 14th dammit.
 
Actually on that topic, anyone have any idea why i shed SO MUCH time through the esses? Same thing happens tome at Maggiorie and to a lesser extent, Yamagiwa. At Seaside i get eaten alive on the left hand entry, I simply CANNOT chuck it in at the same speed my peers can. Even then, as I swerve right then left again I bleed time, maybe 2 to 3 tenths by the end of the sequence even if full throttle.

Better than my last race of the night. I do the same - letting the overly-aggressive idiots take each other out and run themselves off-track by flying into corners with no one to stop their momentum, get myself up to something like P7, only to have three of them fly into the final corner like malfunctioning rockets. By the time I pull myself out of the sand I'm P15.

The steering input needed on wheel needs to be Uber smooth and the entry is very important.
The Ferrari and Viper tear it up, there.
On wheel it’s amazing how little you actually need to turn the wheel, which means more speed yet.
Doubt pad steer is much good on that.
 
You :::can::: flat it in like the gr3 vette EVEN at tcs3, but you gotta be PERFECT on the line/steering.
I like the Ferrari best gr4 and run tcs off.
I ran Monday a few from the back when a couple streamers were up front. The Ferrari can make a fun race vs like the Vantage a lot of guys were running.
Great turn designs there makes for fantastic racing

But, this week Goodwood is a great combo. I’ll be there, late today.

Oh, I am missing Big Willow. :(
I just went and looked through some of my old Willow clips. I found something funny. Not sure if I ever shared it here.

Here's me racing from the back, and what happened when I caught the leader right at the end of the race.


As you would expect, I issued a clear and nasty threat after the race. :mad:

How is your actual run through the esses? We assume that on a DS4, you have one of the sticks all the way towards that direction. Do you get the sense that your tires can't maintain grip? If so, is advise backing off the throttle just a blip or 2 while going through the esses. This is one of those times where it would be beneficial to us to have a replay to analyze.
 
At the esses there my “speed trap”
Is the sign at the crest of the hill.
Speed there is how I gauge my run.
Should be flat all the way.

Yeah i do not have a good replay sorry.

On entry I tap the brake to rotate the car, ideally I use the curb on the left, clipping the apex and on the gas full steam all the way through to the hairpin. If i get it all perfect, it all feels quite smooth and fast but I relentlessly lose time on entry and even if I am up someone's clacker through the esses I struggle to hang onto them even in a fast car. If they are behind me they are pushing me through the corners I am so slow.

It also happens at LM, there is the big banked right hander then a full throttle sequence before the double rights. I relentlessly lose 2 to 3 tenths through there but it is an easy full throttle section.

Increase the steering sensitivity possibly?
I’ll switch it around depending on different class/cars

Ignore if you know about the unique curbs at Seaside.

This is useful for anyone trying to get the max from seaside. I just figured it out recently.

Lets address the curbs at Dragon Trail Seaside and I will get to the Esses in a moment. It is critical for a fast lap. They may not be unique but they are not common. I call them graviton curbs. If used correctly they will slingshot you around the corner like a planet slings a spacecraft. They are have a convex contour compared to a traditional concave shape. They fit the contour of your tire!

Try an experiment. Ride the curbs of the first chicane exit, the three ess curves, and the final curve. They will suck you in and slingshot you around the corner. Or, for the little curbs, e.g. prior to turn 1, just ride over them in a straight line with no steering input and it will shift your direction by a few degrees with no loss of speed.

Now for the esses. It is essential to ride the curbs at the apex/cones but not so far up that you hit the ridge of the curb. It will allow you to both carry speed and turn at the same time. The recipe starting from the S1 timing window at the orange barrier:
  1. lift, slight left, slight brake and hit the first ess apex around180 kph. If you go too fast you will miss the optimum for the second apex.
  2. full throttle no lifting,
  3. hit the second apex in high 180s,
  4. hit the third apex in mid 190s,
  5. at the top of the hill you should be between 205 and 210.
I am doing this from memory so YMMV.

With that context it is a good time to review the Top 10 hot laps. Most will execute the laps like that.

It requires fine control and I can manage that on a DS4 controller with motion steering and triggers for brake and throttle. A wheel would be better. It will be excruciatingly difficult on a DPAD/button-only device.
 
Been trying to figure out how to use Sharefactory and thought I'd share the highlights of this absolute weapon.

It's the German lad in the white GTR that loses the plot.
First, uses the red viper as a brake at the final turn. Gets 3 secs.

Obviously this enrages him so he takes out 2 more on the start finish straight.

This means we all catch up coming to the first chicane and of course he pushes everyone and causes something like a 6 car smash. Not even sure he gets a penalty and he is first to drive off.

That really annoyed me so the final bit of the clip was lovely karma as he bins it at the COD (especially as I got past him despite another idiot punting me into the wall at the hairpin before the COD)

Let's make sure we are addressing the correct problem. When you say you're losing time, are you judging that based upon people catching up to you or seeing the time intervals to cars in front of you grow? If you're worried about cars behind you catching up, they also have slipstream. And the double rights (double lefts this week) at Maggiore are a little tough to judge.

From the sound of your descriptions, it sounds like you're doing things right. If you are understeering through the esses, give that slight lift I mentioned a try. Here is a look at one of my wins from DTS in Gr. 4. If you need the data, I should have it uploaded to the game server.
