I’ve been looking into getting DAYZ and it looks really good. A couple of questions

1 – Do you kneed both ARMA II and operation arrowhead
2 – Do you need to pay for the DAYZ mod?
3 – Do you need a steam account to download things?

1. You can use Arma II Free somehow but I've heard it's tricky. Otherwise, yeah, you need both.

2. No, it's a free mod.

3. No, all you need is Arma II & Op Arrowhead (aka Arma II Combined Ops), the latest community beta patch and the latest Day Z version.
 
Buy Arma II Combined Op, its $29.99 - rather than buying both Arma II and Arrowhead separately ($19.99 each).
 
I should be getting Arma 2 sometime next week when I upgrade a few components on my PC. If my plans go right can I join you guys? Never played ARMA or DayZ but watch videos on DayZ almost everyday.
 
I jumped on the server yesterday, got kicked within minutes with 266 ping. Also it appeared that the chat server wasn't up either.

I can now see how important it is to run this game with mates but it may be difficult to find a group to play with :p.
 
^Walker can up the max ping to 300, we did that yesterday to be sure with EU players.

Yeah, we didn't play DayZ now either, had some fun on the training ground in Arma2 instead for a bit.

Normally the pinks get iron out in the first few hours after a big patch.

Back tomorrow to see if better.

I made a video on FRAPS as I first spawn as a bird, was quite fun.



No it was not the bird riding, Walker was on the bike invisible

There apparently are some problems with 1.7.2/94444 including potential sudden death on connection, gear loss, and/or inability to connect (stuck on "Create character" or "Loading" screen).

I shut the server down for a while to ease the load on everything else, but I have since restarted it as of about 4:45PST. I will try logging on tonight to see if it will connect. If anyone can get on please let me know.
 
By the way I have removed the ping limit entirely. I hope to restore it when we have a good idea of what the max we need is to help limit bandwidth issues (high ping connections i.e. over 300 cause packet loss and lots of resend of data, not to mention they warp around on the game).

WARNING TO ALL: Do not use a gillie suit or camo clothes until a hotfix. You will lose all items. Its bad, and just wanted to warn everyone.
 
It's a good way to practice driving incase we ever get our vehicles! That was well fun, should do it more often! Also good for sniper practice. :)
 
I'm reinstalling arma to see if I can finally get the mod to work again. I get the character creating message in the middle of the screen. Then it switches to loading and never continues after that.
 
^Ok do that. If you still have problems come back here, we can look at it together.

Also I will be using fraps to video some of our hillarious stuff and make a movie of it. Depending on how fast I get the vids togehter, the movie will be up in 1 or 2 weeks ;)

EDIT: Stuck too at loading screen, will update manually to beta 94700. Hope that helps...
Edit :nope, not able to join you guys.

walker did you already installed the hotfix Jaime posted on the previous page? I hope not, because that could fix my loading screen issue :(

Could be server sided, need confirmation on the hotfix from walker.

I have the M16 ACOG, accurate out to 500 meters.

Have you guys gone to the ARMA shooting range for Multiplayer? Its good practice to get real good with your gun, before you find out how the sights work when you need to shoot something fast in DayZ. Plus I'm sure most of you dont want to waste ammo in dayz testing out new weapons.
 
^Played lots of the original Arma series, but it's a good adive for newcomers to get acustomed with the keybindings, ballistics, weapon handling and stuff...

Yes Jaime new patch is 94700, no idea when that came out.

So I guess Walker does not come online in my time schuedle today. Well maybe tomorrow.
