A bit of a tragic end to a franchise with so much squandered potential. Its quite sad, but I was getting pretty tired of the discourse and the long slow death.

The update due in June is looking brilliant. All of players should log in on update day. It will be worth it. Check the Bungie website for two news items and one twid.

Destiny 1 and 2 were brought back to life by the Taken King and Foresaken. This was possible because even though people had stopped playing - lots of people had bought the game.

With Marathon it's different because it never had the player base to start with. Bungie has backed the wrong game.

Taken king and forsaken were both like 10 years ago. Destiny 2 has been a slowly dying giant for a loooonng time, I'm not surprised they wanted to move on.

Honestly this, idk why there was so much outrage and crap flung at Bungie for deciding to end the game’s life, especially after they released the “Final Shape”, like what’s at all surprising about closing out a game after releasing an expansion called that which was supposed to wrap up most of the story until then lol.

You can definitely have the opinion Marathon sucks or whatever, but some players bashing it and sending threats to devs over a decade-old live service game being sunset is so childish. At this point I think anyone who wanted to experience Destiny 2 has, and it’s time to move on as well.

Not condoning the death threats, but I need to interject and mention that Destiny 2 was, for a lot of people, their third space.

Yeah for sure I get any live service or MMO-style game is going to be a social space for a lot of players, but the game is still going to be playable for a while.

The issue is people who think the majority of Bungie’s staff should be devoted solely to developing more content for Destiny 2, which is a very old game at this point, instead of allowing the studio to put it to rest and try new things.

Destiny is weird because it technically is an MMO, but also isn’t really, and they make the series as a sort of hybrid between traditional game releases and MMO-style expansions. So at what point is it reasonable to call it for 2 and make 3?

Or do you just make 2 forever even after the Final Shape and not make 3 like it’s Warcraft?

Me myself, I’m still kind of pissed D2 went free to play and they removed the original storyline from the game for this weird “rotation” content model. I wish I could just install the game and boot up the orignal campaign (which I really liked honestly) and play it without needing an internet connection.

Also I hate how they retconned your character with the new intro in the Cosmodrome when they brought that back after removing the original story. I quite liked my dude being the guy from the first game, and it makes sense everyone always wants him to do everything, because he’s a legendary badass lol.

2.7 million players today I heard on a stream I was watching. See Sony? Although I can't find a source for that.
