I recently bought this wheel in the summer, and experienced the exact same problems you did. I'm a whole lot better than I used to be, but yes I still somewhat suffer from correction issues. Now I saw that you said your force feedback is set to 9? I used to have it at that, but now I have it set to 7. I'm still able to feel the road enough and when I'm going to lose the rear end of the car, but at the same time, I personally found it easier to correct the car because the wheel is not as "heavy" at FFB 7. Now this is something that helped me a little bit as far as correcting the car goes, but I still can't drift :ouch:

If the back end starts sliding just drop the gas countersteer ,

I'd recommend learning the art of drifting that will help you a lot with car physics and techniqes etc..

thanks but i think counter-steering is my main problem, i can do it really weel on the control but counter-steering on the wheel does nothing at all. once the car has started to side thats it, am going to spin and nothing i do stops me spining. and again thanks for helping.

I remember when I started drifting with a wheel. I also had counter-steer issues but you just have to be gentle on the wheel, you will gradually start to counter-steer earlier then when you used a sixaxis, this is because a wheel has a bigger distance to travel in order to reach the same wheel angle as a sixaxis controller, therefore this takes more time. Obviously in that time the cars "catch" point has already passed and you loose control.
I would strongly recommend learning to drift anyway, helps you control slides and mistakes in a much more effective way.
 
I know what you're experiencing. You just need to feel it. You don't make the car slide by steering, you make it oversteer by applying gas when the rear is slipping, and when it slips You steer the car to where you want it to go, but the rear end of the car is the thing you need to control by balancing ur feet on the gas. Gear changes are important too, if the car you are using isn't that powerful then you will always need to blip the gear down before corners, or,, before you attempt to drift :).

The best thing to do is to practice on s2 tyres. If you're useing less than S1 then you're wrong. You need to learn how to make the car behave thay you want it to. S1 on the M3 will help alot if you ask me :).
 
i've been practicing drifting in the SL 55 and it's a good drift car and i've 'improved' (still can't do it at all) a little bit. Is there any videos of how to drift in GT5P??

Dont add another, there loads of threads about drifting with a wheel. Read my 2nd previous post aswell, that basically explains your issue and how to correct it. You just need to figure out where your cars "catch" point is and make sure you start turning your wheel abit before you would usually start correcting with a sixaxis because of the added distance of travel.

It's not helping. It's not that your advice isn't correct- it is right- it's just that am useless at drifting. If i can't drive any RWD car in GT5p fast, theres not point in even owning a wheel, am thinking about moving back to the control.

@Leonidae= Yeah it's fast but just spins. It took me a while to get used to it even with the sixaxis!!
 
Try using the throttle as little as possible to get round the corner, don't enter the corner at full race speed either (almost always going to eat gravel). Use the handbrake/e-brake to initiate drifts on gentle corners aswell. Try drifting in a Cappa Tuned or a F430 on S1s. Don't worry if you think the F430 is abit powerful for a beginner, its got great balance and feel so its an easy but powerful car.

Just had a go with the control and pulled some pretty neat drifts. Then, i decisded to look at what i was doing with it, and that was tapping the thottle and tapping the right button. I know that letting go of the button is like turning the wheel to the middle. With that in mind i've had another go with the DFGT and i've improved and done a little drift!, just a little one but it's a start. Thanks, and i'll try with the F430- I know how great that car is.
 
Good going, I find if you always keep one of the two factors a constant you can't go wrong. Keep your angle and adjust throttle or keep throttle and adjust angle. I prefer the latter.

Yeah i've watched replays of that StepMania guy and he has the car on opposite-lock though out the whole corner.

Haha seems abit of both, I found drifting helps with racing anyway. It gets you out of trouble sometimes and its epicly stylish to drift into the first corner of suzuka.

That why I want to drift, to get out on troble in RWD's. Also OMG the F430 quite easy to use for drifting, it's easier to control than most cars and it's MR!
 
I doubt drifting is going to help you control your car in a race, yes you will be able to control it if you start sliding but drifting around the corner is going to cause a crash in a race. Do some time trials in the F430 as its one of the easyiest RWD cars to drive and then move on to a harder car.

sorry but my problem is far from solved, when racing if i enter a drift am still screwed.

I can drive RWD's quite easy but not fast enough to keep up with anyone online. In tight corner I have to drive really, REALLY slow so i don't loose the back end. In tight corners i loose about 2 seconds :(. I think learning basic drifting will help me in RWD cars at racing, either that or thowing my DFGT in the wheely bin and getting the DS3 or Sixaxis out.

I thought i had, but havn't really. I just don't understand why the control is so much easier than the wheel. To be honest if there was only about 5 rwd's in gt5p and 20 in the full game this really wouldn't bother me but since so many cars and high performace cars in gt are rwd it really limits me to a few cars i can race* in and it's not good.

* only a few non-rwd cars in gt can keep up with rwd's.
 
Sorry for been useless on all but that's it I give up :-[ :-{ :-(. i'll just drive fwd and awd's. Am not going to bother with rwd's they not worth the hassle of driving them.

haha if you want a dead easy car tune and Impreza Saloon to max power, min weight and put it on N1's, drifts like a treat without the harsh snapback

Thanks i'll try it later. Just tryed the 550pp RWD race(Don't know why) with TCS on 3 and I still lose control of it, don't know why I even bothered.
 
oh 1 more question, should I scrap using the wheel and move to the DS3, or use the wheel but only with AWD and FWD's.
 
Continue using the wheel always, I may not make you faster but it definatley makes you more consistent which is what matters in a race. For drifting though I prefer a controller. So use a mix depending on your intended use.
