Joey, perhaps it would be wise not to tempt an accident.

Again.

I don't think you realize American roads are worlds different the European roads.
Even if someone were to believe that they are "worlds" different, please explain why the rate of serious automobile accidents per capita in the US is higher than the UK?

You could be on the best road ever made, and all it takes is a small distraction that could result in a serious accident. Is it likely to happen? Maybe not. But all it takes is that one time, and the result could significantly change your life and the lives of those around you - forever.

Is that risk really worth taking a pic while driving?

Why is the rate higher? Because our drivers training program sucks in America, I got my permit after 2 weeks of classes and my driving test to get my license consisted of parking and a short trip around the block. If it wasn't for my parents teachings I would be screwed.

But seriously, that whole one time thing is crap. Everyone is distracted when they are on the road, everyone fiddles with their radio, looks over to see something, whatever. A large percentage of people talk on their phone, which tests show is just as bad as being drunk behind the wheel...Mythbusters even demonstrated it. I'm going to say there isn't one drive out there who is 100% focused on the road all the time, if you think you are you are just lying to yourself.

You just gave several reasons why you should NOT take pics while driving. 👍

Anyone who knows the risk, and takes it any way deserves to face the consequences of their actions.

Hopefully nothing bad happens, but if it does, and someone is hurt, I hope you are prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and that victims win any civil action placed against you.

This discussion is a reminder why automobile insurance for 18-25 year old males is so incredibly high... most think that nothing bad will ever happen to them...

Post removed to end a stupid argument, lets get back on topic

This is the car I couldn't identify earlier.
somecar.jpg

as far as i can find thats a 69 or 70 dodge dart, it doesnt seem to resemble anything else as far as i can find.

this is where i found out what year it was from, then i searched from there. :)

edit: maybe its not a dart, the bootlid seems too short :irked:

2003 Volkswagen GTI 20th Anniversary 1.8T, surprisingly enough I almost bought a car just like that a few years ago.

n38505333_31157762_630.jpg

And a SL500, nothing real special but according to www.cars.com, they are over 90 grand.

And you'll be happy to note I was at a traffic light on both occasion :p.

Ferrari 348 Berlinetta*...

*At least, that's what I thought it said on the back...

dsc00143wp9.jpg

348tb or 348gtb, depending on the year - 'Berlinetta' was only used on the 355, as far as the 308 and onwards vehicles go. Painted side skirts suggest that one is a 348gtb, although lots of tb owners pained their skirts, and gtbs are really rare. No way to know for sure without a badge shot, and even then it's not a sure thing. Regardless - good spot.

I'm sunburnt and tired - I walked around for seven hours and took 170 photographs today - it was the best car-spotting day in a long, long time - perhaps ever - and I will have all the photos in this thread and the scavenger hunt thread tomorrow. For now I'm going to bed... keep posting!

GTS-R is super rare and sadily for aussies you could only get it in the uk :p

and I always just assumed your user name refered to the original HSV GTS-R Casio just posted.

What is special about that GTS-R you posted over our Omega based HSV's?

Agreed. Doug, please, I dont know what you did to get banned, but I hope you post a ton of photos when you get back.

Uh, what? I've been away for a week. Does anyone know what happened?

EDIT: fantastic pictures while I was away - this thread is valuable without my presence and only slightly improved by it - keep up the good work!!

Oookay....nevermind. :odd: I guess I should drop by more often, then.

I don't think you realize American roads are worlds different the European roads.

Yes, you're right. There's not nearly as many Europeans on the roads over here. Big difference.

This thread is not worthless...hehehehe

Pics I got on a day out in London:

Modded M6

Are those AC Schnitzer mods, or just copycats? Beautiful photos, though, both in content and quality. 👍

Roo

Wow. That's so rare, I had to look it up just to make sure it was real. :) Apparently there's a same-generation S63, too. Of course, neither made it to the US....

That Murcielago shot is fantastic, and says so much about both it and the valets fighting over who gets to park it.... I was not aware of a new B7, though.

After over a week of absence (but fortunately not abcess), I have a new computer and it's fast. It won't go plaid, but then that would be ludicrous. It does, however, make it so much easier to load photos I've taken, just like these:

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 2007

I drive this car most everywhere in TDU (yah, new PC, new game, 8800GTS is the funnestest). Having just started TDU two days ago, it was odd to see the exact same car and color. Or maybe it's just a cool car, virtual or not.

Ferrari 360 Spider

Same parking lot as the Z06, 10 seconds earlier. You can just about make it out, but the license plate reads "360 SPYD".

Mercedes-Benz S500 coupe

Long since forgotten, but not before it became the CL.

Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG

I've been keeping an eye out for all the older AMG cars, and this is one of just three I needed to find. Mint condition, too, much better than the few C43's I'd seen months ago.

BMW L7

To complement the L6 I found late last year, of course. :sly: I've known about this spot for years, but never had a good chance to get a good photo. It's either not there, or there's people right out front, or something. I'm sort of familiar with the owner, and the XJS is his, too, along with a 635CSi (not pictured, of course). Apparently he did very well 20 years ago, and not much since.

I suck. I actually saw an Ariel Atom in my town...going the other way...and I was STUCK IN BLOODY TRAFFIC! I made a U turn as fast as I could and drove for 30 minutes trying to find him. I couldn't find him AND I couldn't get my phone out fast enough to take pictures. It was unmistakable (it looked just like this: http://www.motorcities.com/media/im...Honda-Powered-Street-Legal-Mini-F1-D-640.jpeg, it was an Atom. It had the intake right behind the driver and the pointy nose up front. It was red.

I know I know, I suck without pictures, but I'm too blown away to actually keep this to myself. It was an Atom, in America, in hicksville Texas for christ sakes!

Are they even sold here in the states legally?

We know return you to your semi-sane topic. Thank you.

Take the bracket off the end of the url in the address bar.

HIGHLIGHTS:

As promised, three cars I've never photographed on the road before. First and most importantly, here's something intense:

techart-gt2-042107-3.jpg

techart-gt2-042107-2.jpg

That's a Porsche 911 GT2 996, with TechArt wheels. MSRP on that vehicle was $192,000 when it was out, and the TechArt stuff would easily toss that into the $200k range - it's the most expensive Porsche ever aside from the Carrera GT (and, I guess, the 911 GT1). This is the first GT2 I've ever seen on the road; it's car that had been on my 'why haven't I seen this on the road?' list for a long, long time. South Carolina tags, and I figured the owner would be a celebrity so here's a shot of him. A beautiful, beautiful car.

gallardo_spyder-042107-3.jpg

gallardo_spyder-042107-2.jpg

FINALLY!!! This vehicle debuted in February of 2006. I saw one at the Denver Auto Show in March and then went on the lookout for one. I've looked hard for the last thirteen months to no avail (despite seeing FIVE Murcielago Roadsters, which is what really irks me since this is essentially half the price of that). When I woke up Saturday morning, I just got the feeling I'd see one. A friend rode the bus with me to the mall to shop and I told her I was 'sure' I would see a one today, and alas I did. The best shot is the left-rear; that's when it looks most aggressive. Manual transmission and local plates on this one, which was parked at the mall for four or five hours today. More shots: 1, 2.

phantom-042107-3.jpg

Here's something you don't see every day. One, it's a bright blue Phantom, which is weird enough. Two, it's got Missouri license plates. I thought it might be Andre 3000's, since he has homes in both Atlanta and St. Louis, but a white guy was driving. The reason this is a good spot has nothing to do with those details though - it's the new long-wheelbase Rolls-Royce, the Phantom LWB, which lists at $385,000 - making it the most expensive four-door vehicle ever sold in the US (although if the Maybach 62S is out yet, that's no longer true, as they're pushing $400k). Fantastic spot, and a great car to see (twice!). More photos: 1, 2.

Hope you enjoyed those shots - definitely the best Atlanta day yet!!

That Gallardo Spyder is probably pretty close color-wise to the one I saw in Norman. Very nice spots! 👍

That SLK55 is not a real AMG, but a ricemobile. And if it was, the side vents are modified. The REAL AMG should have 4 tailpipes, different rear bumper, side skirt, and front bumper.

And Andre 3000's Phantom? Hellooo, chauffeur?

Awesome spots Doug!

+rep for that.

Thanks!

As far as the SLK55, I agree - I don't think it's real either. But it had temporary plates, so I was wondering if perhaps Mercedes was taking the SLK55 a different direction and I was seeing the first of things to come. As for the Phantom - the rear windows were heavily tinted, so who knows.

Isn't the Gallardo just awesome in every way. My first one I saw was in dark grey with orange seats with the top down just amazing in every way. I have a picture but because it was at a motor show I am not sure if I am allowed to post it here. Awesome photos such good quality.
And +Rep

Thanks!

Thanks!

Dear god, I hope not.

And how is it that you don't have a quality post badge yet?

yeah that slk55 is a fake.

had a go in a 600bhp Top Secret R32 Skyline GTR :D very very fast yet didnt seen as brutal as the gallardo i was in a couple of weeks ago :indiff:

Great set of Pics doug. The Range Rover limo was the most surprising TBH, I've only ever known American SUVs to be stretched.

Dear god, I hope not.

Doug isn't exactly loved for some of his opinions...
