weigert - As stated several times already, the emphasis is a lot more rallying this time.

Excellent, thanks for the info.👍 Have you played Richard Burns Rally?, I know it's still early days yet but i'd like to know if the physics are anything like that game's.

I haven't, so I couldn't comment sorry. Imagine it sort of DiRT 1 X 3. The same basic handling but variables have a much greater effect, eg the Quattros brake balance was set up wrong, so the back slid very easily under braking. I've never noticed that in a DiRT game before. Also, road surfaces offer huge variations in grip, smoothness etc. The handling is nowhere near as predictable as it was in DiRT 2, meant in a good way.

This is a stupid question but, I always love how dirty my car gets, and in the demo you played did the car get muddy, dirty, or dusty? I liked how it was in DiRT 2 and I hope they can improve on it even more. And are the courses going to have a real-time deformation system, like the track being torn up every lap, getting ruts and other stuff like that?

The Quattro got dusty so yeah thats still there, it looked pretty good too. As for track deformation, I was on a rally stage, so it would be impossible to notice if the stage deformed, sorry. I can however 100% confirm snow banks will deform on the Norwegian stages.

I'm just saying that I would prefer to compete in more Rally events in DiRT 3. I already know there will be more Rallying since i've been following news of this game for the past few months now. There's nothing wrong with telling other people what you want to see in this game.

Ah, no worries. I wasn't expecting it to be as 'realistic' as RBR anyway. It still sounds a ton better than DiRT 2 though, that last sentence of yours is particularly confidence filling.👍

Will the huge rally raid trucks be back? I'm quite interested in dirt 3 as of late.

Yeah Tommi - anything can throw the car off line, they don't float like in DiRT 2 :).

Yeah they will be but not as many as were in DiRT 2.

I've also found some pre-alpha Gymkhana gameplay:

Even at this stage, the game's looking pretty good.

I just really hope they offer a level editor to set up your own courses, It would be lame to only have prebuilt ones.

Certainly does:tup:. I thought the stage shown seemed a bit short though, but we do get more rallying in this installment so i'm not too fussed.

Forgot to mention, they posted on their Facebook this morning that the official release date is May 24th. 👍

Even better news...
I finish school forever on the 25th as that is when my last exam is...
Thanks Codemasters :D :D :D

Really looking forward to this game, hopefully a bit more rallying than Dirt 2, but i cant see how it can go far wrong.

Holy Crap! If that's the Pre-Alpha Code, I can't wait to see the final version. I hope the gyms are available for multiplayer. Be fun to do like horse or something.

Only drawback for me is that it seems as though the tracks are as wide as GT ones.
Hoping for more tighter, technical runs.
Early days though, overall looking forward to this.

Good year to be a console racing enthusiast.

Just remember, all those videos are PRe-Alpha Code. Which means, they haven't even gotten around to testing it as a full game yet. A lot of things could change and probably will by the time we get the demo and full game.

To be fair, both the rally tracks/locations they've shown so far are typically quite wide. Finland has wide stages and so did Kenya, so until they've shown locations such as Norway and England we can't really comment.

This game is looking good though, very good actually. I really enjoyed Dirt2, even with it's extreme outlook on the sport.

Also, Lancia Fulvia FTW!

The driving looked... really meh in these videos. The car looked to have too much grip. I hope that isn't the case though.

Not all rally courses are as tight as you think, i've been at the last stage of the rally of wales a few times, as i grew up near there, There are part of the road that are fairly wide, Dirt 2, for the few rally stages it had; did a good job.

Though i have to say something. InsidesimRacing did a Dirt 3 interview where they asked basicly "Do you have real world stages in the game" and his answer was along the lines of "Yes we took lots of photos so it looks real but we made changes to make it more fun because real rally stages are a bit boring".

Now, having walked along many rally stages, i can tell you that they are far from boring, and definitely do not need "editing", i honestly think it was an excuse to avoid the fact that they are fictional stages roughly based on the real thing. I would personally find it much more exciting imagining the possibility of driving the real thing. Its like someone taking a few pictures of Spa Francorchamps and then making their own track from it because they think the original isnt good enough.

IMO for the stages to be real the handling would have to be more real. I just think if the stages are simulated the rear car's handling must also be simulated.
