Not all rally courses are as tight as you think, i've been at the last stage of the rally of wales a few times, as i grew up near there, There are part of the road that are fairly wide, Dirt 2, for the few rally stages it had; did a good job.

Though i have to say something. InsidesimRacing did a Dirt 3 interview where they asked basicly "Do you have real world stages in the game" and his answer was along the lines of "Yes we took lots of photos so it looks real but we made changes to make it more fun because real rally stages are a bit boring".

Now, having walked along many rally stages, i can tell you that they are far from boring, and definitely do not need "editing", i honestly think it was an excuse to avoid the fact that they are fictional stages roughly based on the real thing. I would personally find it much more exciting imagining the possibility of driving the real thing. Its like someone taking a few pictures of Spa Francorchamps and then making their own track from it because they think the original isnt good enough.

It does sound like a bit of a dumb thing for them to say, and I agree with you. It is however, a nice excuse for them not to have to get seriously high levels of accuracy in the stages, which probably helps them power stuff out quicker. It also gives them free reign to make sure the stages are designed in a way that's easy on the graphics engine, instead of trying to massage a graphically tricky real stage into their system.

But...don't the rally stages change every year? I thought that was the point of having a navigator.

From my experience, i've been to quite a few rally events over the years, national ones and WRC, the stages remain the same, the particular stage that was closest to me is the final stage of the WRC championship (it was also on Top Gear last sunday, atleast part of it). Every year we go to roughly the same places to watch (Up in the forest, though not in margam park) and the cars drive along those same roads each year. There may be minor variations but the stages remain the same, there are only so many roads running through those forestries, its not like they can just change it like a race track circuit. Those roads are barely used or touched throughout the rest of the year, of course i can only speak for the local area, it may be different in stages and rally events in other countries.

I've only really been to the Jim Clark Rally in the Borders a few times and the roads used are mainly the same with some minor variations. Just my 2 pence worth. 👍

I'm super excited for this game!!! Im sure we will see tighter stages in the game or even more previews to come. They are just using that 1 stage to show stuff off I guess. This ISR interview is great, makes me look foward and have high hopes for this game bc Dirt 2 was a big fail. Rally time!!!

Dirt 3 looks promising! ... senior game designer is fan of Colin McRae Rallye 2, that's good.

p.s. look how they handle steering wheel support, PD should take few notes here.

Really? I use the DFGT and GT5/Prologue are the only two console games which I'm satisfied with the wheel support. I've played two other racing games on my console - Grid was a trainwreck in this respect whereas Dirt 2 - while having made a reasonable effort - was still far from reaching the GT standard.

I think he means it looks like full support for G25/7. GT's do not have full support for them. Though I think how "full" they will have we wont know until it releases.

Exactly, and not only that. Whole communication with press/fans is on another level. We know few months before release which wheels are going to be supported and that they tested every wheel to perform well (e.g. note in video about G27). Of course we don't know anything about feedback quality. And I like his honesty when he was being asked about level of simulation.

One day they will make epic rally games, as the company once did. Their inching towards it. Why they fell backwards is beyond me.

Because they needed to please a larger group of audience. I guess not that many people love doing "time trials" alone for the whole game! That's why, I suppose, the official WRC game didn't sell that well despite the rallying sections were much better than Dirt 2.

And even for Dirt 3 - being 60% made up of pure rallying - their adverts place emphasis mostly on Ken Block and gymkhana instead!

The trucks are returning! Should be fun to take the Ram around the rally stages. I LOVED the "race any car on any track" thing from Dirt 2. I hope they bring that back for Dirt 3

Looking really impressive so far;

The graphics currently look great, the way car seems to be moving around the track in those replay sections of the 207 S2000 looks very similar to some footage of rally cars I've seen. Also, slow punctures and blow-outs could be quite a interesting combination.

It looks like they also toned down that "brown is real" filter. Now it is more acceptable, although still is there. Maybe they are afraid of live colors :odd:

They just posted a new interview video on Facebook that confirms dynamic weather. Is that already confirmed or new?

novcze

I agree. I dont understand why they make ALL of their games like that. Thought we'd expressed enough hatred for it by now. The eye strain it produces is unreal.

I want that set-up!!

This "most realistic physics" thing irks me.. every new title will always "have more realistic physics"...but how many games does it take to finally achieve absolute realism?

Available to preorder on gamestop's site, nothing on amazon. I'm waiting for a preorder bonus. I don't think this game is a gamble but I'm in Iraq now so if there isnt a bonus then I'm not in a rush to get it. Looks great although I think gymkhana looks like it just takes away from the true rally aspect of the game. Just trying to appeal to the monster/ extreme crowd. Im more about the group b stuff.

Group b fans should search "too fast to race" on YouTube. Full length documentary broken into 7 parts. Great stuff.

As long as there is still a good chunk of traditional P2P rallies I don't mind gymkhana being in the game. Hopefully it will draw more people to buy the game and they can be introduced to the madness that is Group B.

Like you I will probably wait until some reviews are out, unless there are some really good pre-order bonuses that is.

Will also look up that documentary.👍
