Pardon the double-post, but I found this video of a rally stage (or possibly two) in Norway with the new MINI Countryman WRC. Reminds me of the Top Gear race between a rally Evo and a bobsleigh. You'll see why.

Couple of observations. 1 - the framerate drops in the replay are a little concerning. Haven't noticed them as much in other videos so maybe it is just a snow thing or localized to this specific replay. 2 - good to see that snow tires, well you know, actually provide some semblance of grip just like they are supposed to (looks at Polyphony Digital).

As to the CM Kenya video, driving sim-ish games may require many qualities of the gamer but having "real balls" is definitely not one of them :rolleyes:.

There's quite a few places on that stage where there are no guardrails on the outside of corners.

Understood, but wrecking in a videogame is completely inconsequential is my point. So as there is no real danger, no real courage is required.
 
Re-watching the Norway and Michigan videos, I think one of my big concerns has been addressed: namely, overly-short stages. Both those videos are three minutes long and largely consist of driving. Both stop before the end of the stage, and both of them have part of the middle section cut out. Now I just hope that they're not stages where you can draw a straight line between the start and finish and the road simply weaves back and forth across that line. I remember the days of COLIN McRAE RALLY, where the start and finish were actually very close together geographically, but the stage was one big loop around.

I'm also comparing the stages to the one shown in this video from RICHARD BURNS RALLY, and I like what I see. Where RBR went for the ultra-real (and I can appreciate that), I find the stages to look a little bland. It's just a forest and not much else. In DIRT 3, you have the Michigan stage winding through villages with little extra spectator-friendly sections built, skipping between sealed roads with dirt tracks and finally tearing through an old quarry; the Norway stage flirts with a bobsleigh run, circles a lake and cuts through a frozen village. I reminds me of the Baja California stage in DIRT 2 that ran through the smelly old spillway and the courses in Morocco that ran past an old fortress. It may be a little larger-than-life, but the point is that the stages are interesting to look at, if not altogether realistic at times. While I'd love the ultra-real feel of RBR, I'd get bored with the scenery quickly. I really like DIRT 3 has that larger-than-life design philosophy, and I think it's entirely appropriate for rallying.

I just hope my system - a HP Pavilion DV6-3206AX - can handle it. I only got the computer ten days ago, but Codies have a habit of pushing systems to the limits.

We've been through the desert, the alpine, the gymkhana, and outback...

Why couldn't the 5th video be in a Volcanic Eruption where we'll be driving downhill being chased by running lava and divebombed with Volcanic Ash??? :D

Anyway, I just pre-ordered my copy. I went looking for the specs to my computer last night, but as it turns out, they haven't actually been put up online. The closest thing I could find was a distant cousin that wasn't quite the same as this one. Turns out my computer is actually a damn good one; I bought it because of the performance-to-price ratio rather than to have a top-of-the-line machine. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to meet the minimum requirements for the game, but it turns out I'm comfortably within the recommended requirements.

Well obviously not, but I'd like to see a game that does that; Get chased on a sophisicated narrow downhill with no guard rails, while dodging incoming projectiles being shot out by the volcano.

As far as I know, Motorstorm Pacific Rift has the whole 'racing down a volcano' thing covered.

I was also hoping for something new to be shown in the final PowerPlayr video, but instead we got another Gymkhana demo which I didn't really find that interesting. I'm wondering whether the Gymkhana Mode will actually be any good, but either way the Rally Mode is what i'm really looking forward to.

Motorstorm Apocalypse, i think would do the trick :)

And some folks think that on December 2012 we might have to do that for real. :lol:

i would know if i had the game. and interludes, it's not difficult at all. it's worse without it. a game like GT obviously won't need it, but games like this where you require making contact with other cars will.

Even GT5 need something like that to be honest, a free camera, something like GTR2 and NFS Shift, you know when you are just driving around and you want to admire your car and then when you accellerate it return to the normal position.. This could be a nice feature in every racing game.

Does anybody know something about the frame rate? 60fps-ish? Anyway what are the best fps racing games for Ps3? I(I already own GT5 and WipeoutHD)

No, I mean the specs of my computer. I know the system requirements for the game; I was just unsure as to whether my computer could meet them. Turns out it does.
 
I hope they keep the trend of introducing a Fantastic SOundtrack list one og the most things I enjoyed in Dirt 2.Interesting too see what will they do after Dirt 3.Dakar maybe

I heard an old Leftfield track (Storm 3000) on the Extended 'Keep It Real' Dev Diary video. I really hope it's used in the actual game.

Answer: I don't know. I don't even look into stuff like that, nor do I really care.. 30fps, 60fps... it's a driving game, you don't need each and every single frame to help you drive.
 
Well... I have to admit, I'm a 60fps fanboy I want everything at 60fps or at least 30 rock solid. Dirt3 looks promising but maybe it's too much for the PS3. I hope CM deliver a frame rate on the Dirt2 standard which was good booth in details and sense of speed.
 
I don't see what's so graphically intensive about Dirt3 compared to Dirt2.. looks roughly the same. If Dirt2 didn't exhaust your console, I think Dirt3 probably won't do much more.
 
From the video I've seen so far the frame rate is not the same as in Dirt2. Developers forgetting these consoles aren't like nowdays Pc. In the Mini Cooper video the drops are even more nasty, I hope for a demo.
 
In dirt 2 did every car have cockpits? I was just hoping that every car in Dirt 3 would have that option is the reason why I ask.

Just kidding, but.. we never know. I think/hope the Premium/Standard will be only a PD deviation.
