I had to delete Dirt Rally from my PS4 in order to download & install DR2. At the time the handling seemed
too unrealistically arcady for me ... but as I pointed out before rally racing itself is insanely "unrealistic", so
perhaps I was being unfair!

Hello everyone! I have a question about Dirt 2.0. I have been playing it for a long time but recently bought a new wheel, the TSXW that I use for PC and PS4 with the drivehub. I have the Dirt 2.0 installed on PC and PS4 but have noticed that I have more ffb on PS4 than on PC. That is, on PS4 I feel the track both on gravel and asphalt but on PC the feeling is minimal not to say insignificant. Anyone know something about it or could you help me?

PD: By the way, I had a T500 and exactly the same thing happened.

I had to delete it too. I've never driven a rally car so I don't really know, simply I wasn't playing it any more.

"Unrealistic"... What makes you think it is?

I can't be sure as I've never used one, but I remember reading something about losing a fair bit of fidelity and functionality when using wheels through the drivehub.

It's just that the problem is not with the drivehub. I feel more FFB using the drivehub on the PS4. My problem is with the PC, the TSXW is for PC without drivehub. On PS4 it goes very well, on PC it does not feel absolutely anything.

For what it’s worth, and since this game is no longer being updated, here are what I’d like to see in the next DR installment.

  • Hardcore damage set to default in Community Events, this would eliminate the extreme off-roading resulting in ridiculous times
  • Bring back *some* night and rain stages in Community Events, this game was all or nothing since Day 1
  • More distance between scheduled service areas in Community Events (25+ km would make tire choice more important)
  • User created offline events should allow garage cars (not just loaners)
  • Community Events locations should pull from all 13 rallies, not segregated between DLC and non-DLC
  • More Special Events showcasing a broader selection of the cars; not the same DLC cars repeatedly
  • A revamped My Team mode, the ‘move up through the ranks to impossibility’ since DR1 is stale, the only thing going for this mode is it randomly selects rallies from all 13 locations - but the every other stage service park schedule needs to go. Mix it up
:gtpflag:

Exactly! That's what I'm talking about! Rally cars seem to defy the laws of physics on a regular basis ... or at least the physics I've learned from playing sims like AC or PCars2. A little understeer or oversteer? Pffft! How about landing sideways from a massive jump & driving away like you meant to do that! :)

Does anybody on pc know of a quicker way to use spotify without alt tabbing? Dirt crashed on me during a club and gave me a dnf for a stage I had completed because of it.

After getting platinum on DiRT5 , I am back to DR2.0. Set myself a real challenge and not sure if I am able to succeed but we'll see a few weeks from now.

So the challenge: Beat the AI on the highest difficulty setting in Greece

Jeu DiRT Rally 2.0
Mode Championnat personnalisé
Pays Grèce
Région Agrolide
Étape Anodou Farmakas
Longeur 9,60 km
Catégorie Groupe B 4WD
IA Très difficile
Dégâts Hardcore

I keep track of every run I do in an Excel sheet to simply follow my progress. The AI in the custom championship runs a bonkers 6:04 and my first run was a 6:51:odd:

Anyone would like to join the party?

Small update: I managed to beat the very hard AI today. I ran a 6:03,xxx with a big error included. Will try to iron it out. Never ever thought I would be able to get to this time but practice pays off 👍

Nothing better than hitting a bump at high speed, barrel rolling through the air and landing on your tires and not losing any speed. Obviously not realistic but its damn fun! I think the rest of the game is punishing enough, we need some fun.

Well actually ... I've seen quite a few RL examples of rally cars "barrel rolling the through the air" ending up on their tires & driving away ...

although it's true DR2 does seem to allow that more readily than IRL.

Magic behind the wheel early this evening. Not sure how but :D

29th? C'mon doblo - you can do better!

As I've pointed out before, practising seems to be contrary to the ethos of rally racing where you're supposed to have only a rudimentary familiarity with the course. Obviously, this doesn't really apply to a rally game. I have to say, that my favourite run on a stage is the first one where I am listening entirely to the navigators prompts. Drive slowly enough to be sure to complete the stage without crashing. That usually leaves me about one minute off the pace in a short stage & two minutes on a long stage. From there I start whittling away at the times, dropping 10 seconds or more a run until I end up ... well, still massively slower than the fastest online times. :ouch:

The good news is, it's way more fun than obsessively trying to shave hundredths of a second off conventional circuit times. 👍

... I might add that I had a go at Anodou Farmakas in the wet last night, driving the RWD Ford Escort. It took me so long to finish my first run that I had to stop for a pee at the half-way point. The road surface in Greece seems particularly unforgiving in the wet ... but then again it doesn't look as though it rains that often there!

Very few people seem to have attempted this (in Freeplay Time Trial). It's interesting to see what locations/cars are popular. in DR2. I prefer the RWD drive cars myself, but I see that the modern AWD machines seem to be much more popular.

@Biggles I agree with your approach and it is the way I mostly rally. Anodou Farmakas I can run blind in my head. However, my goal was to see if I could beat the most difficult AI. Something impossible for me without serious practice. It resulted in a great time on the leaderboard as a bonus. Can I take it further, probably, do I want to? Maybe ;)

Which class is that Escort?

Been dipping in and out, but I have to say I've thoroughly enjoyed just booting the game up and attacking stages without needing to worry about set-ups and the like. As mentioned a few posts above, having hardcore damage enabled for some online championships would really shake things up; at the time of writing I'd just sneaked into the top 50 for the Group A monthly (with Greece left to go) despite a couple of very hefty whacks into some Finnish trees.

That, and grinding out engine upgrades can be a bit of a faff...

@doblocruiser That challenge of yours the 205 specifically? Granted, I only have that and the Quattro in my garage anyway, 6.0X seems rapid... I'll have a try myself some point this week!

Nothing special but I went into custom championship, took one stage, hardest difficulty and hardcore damage. Only thing was to see if I could beat the AI. Think you can try it in any class ;) Choice is all yours .

It's the Escort MK II, H2 class. I like it: it's lightweight, pretty powerful, sounds good & slides good!

I'm still in the "honeymoon" stage of DR2. There are plenty of stages I haven't run at all yet. It's really enjoyable to run them for the first time - in Time Trial - with no prior knowledge, listen to the navigator's instructions & try & complete the stage with no crashes. My times are, of course, very slow compared to the leaderboard, but then I will take 3 or 4 subsequent runs & drop my time significantly.

I'm particularly enjoying DR2 as my daughter has taken a keen interest. I'm having a hard time convincing her to drive slowly enough to avoid crashing the car multiple times ... however, I have made some progress & she actually just posted a time that put her in the top quarter on the leaderboard recently. :)

@doblocruiser honeymoon period. That's how I feel about DR1, I've repurchased for my PC and I'm rediscovering it all over again. It's improved compared to the console versions, custom liveries, better graphics, no screen tearing, no slowdown at Monte Carlo or Sweden. It's glorious :) Just taking the 205 T16 back up the hill :)

Edit, nice to hear your daughter is playing, I couldn't get either of mine involved if I tried :(

I've got the itch though, I reckon cracking 6 minutes in the Quattro isn't beyond the realms of possibility! That won't be happening today though, that was the result of a good 3 hours of practise and now my thumbs are letting me know about it...

I'm not sure why she's taken an interest in rallying. She likes watching Youtube rally videos also. Never had any interest in cars or racing before. In comparison to rallying, track racing is very repetitive & boring & watching replays in DR2 is great compared to track event replays. I am a bit worried about her taking her new found "skills" onto the roads though! :scared:

I have to admit I have only dabbled with most of the cars so far. The majority of the time I have been driving the Escort. The more powerful cars feel much heavier - faster, but somewhat more sluggish. The Escort just seems like a very nice mix of power & finesse, whereas the more modern AWD cars are too powerful & precise. It's a similar difference to driving GT3 cars in AC compared to road cars, like the RUF Yellowbird or the 250 GTO.

It really is amazing what FFB can achieve in DR2 - all the different surfaces: dusty, hard gravel, soft gravel, dry, wet, icy, snowy, bumps, dips, off-camber etc. ... & then all the different cars, with their differing weights, weight balance, drive systems etc. 👍

I’ve started a club dedicated to the classic RWD classes. These cars you have to actually drive, compared to the cars of today. The first championship is up and running at the moment. Please join!

I joined but not sure if I commit fully. I like the format and time. Even for someone with less spare time it should be manageable. Thanks to @Biggles tried H2 rwd , so the championship suits perfectly :)
