Discussion of undocumented features in patch 1.10

Well I think it's a job well done there... Suzuka looks better, whatever they've done... next stop, The Green Hell :P

Maybe I'm imagining things, but does Rome feel different too? Were there white/red stripes on guardrails on certain corners before?
Monza too looks different in several places.

Funny thing is, the undocumented changes like the performance, shadows, etc. are probably what cost PD the biggest amount of effort in this update. To get things like that right (and not screw up the rest) on an existing platform is not an easy task to get right. 👍
From the changelog, it looks like a small update, but it's actually quite huge (as the 308MB download shows). I am starting to appreciate this update more and more.

Could have been me, but when checking the OCD, the standard cars looked beautiful, a lot better than before (but I can also be imagining things here)

Did they addressed the issue with the so-called "black screen of death" when several players are on the track during free run and the race is about to start. Thus causing this black screen problem that usually lasts for almost a minute and causes other major problems.

Could anyone confirm if they fixed this?

Hmm, these undocumented changes sound really good! Gonna toy around with the AI for abit! These online car prizes look good also, any info on that anyone?

You answered your question within your question. Don't start the race when cars are out running on track and the black screen is greatly minimized. Call everyone back to the pits or lounge first, then hit the start button while they wait patiently. :)

Well I would like to know if we're able to be on the track and not having to pit before the race starts. I'm sick and tired of kicking out players who do not listen and getting hate messages. I would love to play not having to worry about the black screen and players not pitting in during free run. I know a lot of players out there just want to practice or test their tune during free run without having to piss off the host or other players.

I don't follow? As long as you're in the pits or on the track when the race timer ends you will be in the race. If everyone is in the pits when this happens it's easier for the game to sort everyone out and minimizes black screens. If everyone is out running around on the track it takes the game longer to figure out where everyone is/where they are supposed to be and that's one of the main things that leads to black loading screens.

Players can go to the pits or the lounge during free runs, but if they're in the lounge when the race timer ends they will be a spectator and won't be in the race.

I have also noticed a change in the Taksuba track. Can't put my finger on it but could it be possible that they changed the position of the sun?

I haven't had the time to check yet.

AI seem much improved.. They will stay off line more to hold position on track, and will generally avoid you more if you spin out. The damage seems slightly more subtle as well. Some lighting changes on monza and suzuka

To me it seems that Toscana themed Course Maker tracks look better than before, with more scenery variety and density.

Yeah i've noticed that too i think. Expecially looking at the yellow elise behind me in the event

The little paint graphic seems to change.
The one that pops up on the splash screen when you've been awarded a paint.

I swear it might be the placebo effect, but it seems like the specular highlights with bright sunlight are better or at least more pronounced now.

It happened to me too, but I was like 1 and a half month away from GT5 because of PSN and playing some crappy PC games that run at 40fps so I got back to GT5, and the first thing I did was a run on the ring and I was completelly: oooOOOMG! :o, I forgot how good it looks.

Some stuff feels smoother... dunno, it just feels in some places, smoother.

Yeah; at the same time the AI is better though; so it's not totally noticeable.

but i would say if you got say 2nd before, without changing anything he will then get 1st

if you had gotten 4th before; then he will get 3rd.

he is a lot better; but again the AI is too :D

The B-spec driver list seems to accurately show the stats of each driver. Before it used to show different stats when you clicked on them versus looking at their stats on the driver select screen.

That's cumulative though... the patch enables someone using 'vanilla' GT5 1.00 to instantly obtain 1.10, the 308Mb includes everything that's been patched thus far.

I agree though, there's been a lot of 'unseen' work on the game and it's looking good!

Well I've raced on Trial Mountain, nothing different there.
Tuskuba, there is definately something different there... but it's nothing big, but seems to make a difference...
Monza and Suzuka... Definate differences... but I don't know what... signs? little ones I could have sworn weren't there... lighting? Speculars? Shadows? I dunno... Madrid has changed too...
