Discussion of undocumented features in patch 1.10

Yet again features in GT5 have negative impacts on other much more fundamental features.

Premium cars = 75% of cars look relatively poor by this gen standards.
Dynamic lighting = crappy shadows.
B-Spec mode = AI that has to be able to improve and yet always be able to "beat" itself, which means it's crap and slow.

I'm not so sure about saying premium cars look relatively poor. The fact that you can get to the inch level in preview really shows the modelling wasn't that bad. Although there is evidence they 'cheaped' out in some places (a la R8 V10 with a V8 engine). I think it would be more fair to say 75% of cars in Gt5 are sub-standard in GT5.

Although I agree with the general gist of the AI. It's rubbish. [I have not tried 1.10 ... stupid rogers download cap, that update is too much bandwidth to waste.....]

Don't know about this but thought I would mention it, when I did the new seasonal event it seems the collision detection with other cars is different, it's like the opponent cars are smaller (not visually but in physics), so i can get a lot closer and almost drive into the side of them a few cm before the impact happens. But it maybe I was driving the Fiat 500, but I am used to driving small cars, and this felt different.

Aye, certainly on bumper cam you can get a great deal closer to the car in front than you could before.

Maybe they've 'fixed' bumper cam to actually be right on the bumper.

I noticed that now, when you change the field of view it immediately changes and not after you unpause :).

Has anyone else noticed that the monkey on the tree overhanging the track at Trial Mountain, which has traditionally always been a Tufted Capuchin, has been changed into a Proboscis monkey? This leads me to believe that Trial Mountain, although fictitious, is situated in Borneo.

I noticed you can sort cars in your garage by "Last Used".

Another new feature: Sort your garage by performance points -then go to the settings screen of one of them. See how the performance points are completely different?

If they have improved the AI I couldn't really tell. I guess obviously not enough to change the seasonal events to a real race format (standing start on a grid) rather than keep the wierd rolling start from the back with 1s between each competitor. What format did they borrow that from again?

Rather than race suits & helmets, I have a novel idea for a racing game....

An event allows you to do practice, qualifying, and race format. (yes, yes with an option to skip & go straight to the race.)
With a normal grid start from the place you qualified.

Then do wheel to wheel battle with well crafted AI, and be punished with vehicle damage if you make a mistake & crash.

Then after the race you get money depending on your placing and perhaps a car prize for 1st place.

As if anyone would be crazy enough to include this sort of functionality in a racing game! :sly:

Agreed 100%!! The new expert seasonal race should be like this..

I don't know if it already did before the patch. But I saw the airbrake of an AI's Veyron opening up while braking at high speed. Didn't see it before but I must say I rarely use the Veyron and if I do it's in bumper view.

That has worked since release day :)

Glad the slip streaming has been toned down. It makes it fairer for whoever is leading the race.

This is confirmed in online mode in-race I presume?

Interesting indeed. I haven't been online since the patch and I'm eager to test it. If this is true, it's certainly a step in the right direction. 👍

One small problem, you go to tune a car and now the PP and HP show seperately, but some of the time its covering the text behind it.

I didn't say the premium cars look poor.

I said that the premium cars taking so long (6 months each apparently) has almost certainly resulted in the game being populated for the most part by so many (relatively) sub-par (for this generation of consoles) standard cars.

The premium cars look beautiful, needlessly so, in fact. Not that the flickery shadows help them at all. Good for photo modes, though.

I think the Standards got some love again. I just purchased the 69' GT40, and Holy crap the decals on it look better than some of the premium's when racing. And when i viewed my Calsonic Skyline R32, it Installed it again, the Camaro LM car looks almost Premium Quality too.

I agree! Some cars really look a bit better, specially some racing ones because the decals are very important.

I've noticed the change on lightning and reflections too, now the headlights "glass" on some standards look really realistic. Well, they looked already better since 1.06 or 1.07.

done some online, on Fuji and SR5 and i'd say it's toned down

Really? That's pretty good news if it's true! I love good drafting battles but I admit it seemed a little overdone. It will make a great improvement to online racing! 👍

So I noticed this for the first time, maybe it was already in the game earlier?

I played the new seasonal Laguna Seca event with the Subaru... When you get off the road and on the dirt, you have very less grip for 1-2 corners...

Never registered this before? Is this new?

Thought the same thing, you really notice dirt pick up now.

Well, this traction loss was present before, just dunno if they raised it. It was short before, just some meters.

👍 great I really like the grip loss! Maybe they raised it only for these extreme events... Got to try it in an A-Spec race...

It definitely is more pronounced now than it was before

I did some test with my friend of GTClub.forumfree with the SuperGt500(Autodromo di Monza) and I think that the Slipstream hasn't been tuned down!

Anyone else notice that most standard cars look better now

However, some do look better! Especially the headlights and window areas... a sign of things to come?

And I noticed that dirt pickup thing too... and also I managed to lose control of an F1 car due to the dirt... and when I looked at the replay it looked EXACTLY like how a real F1 car loses traction? Definate improvements...

Are the dandelions new? I'd never noticed them before, either way.

I think that with the new helmets and suits, they must made the windows a bit less dark... and from 1.06 (or 1.07) on, the change on the reflections made the glass/lights areas on some standards look noticeably better imho.

Example: try the peugeot 106 on eiger. The lightning when passing thru the tunnel makes the car look great. I have a pic of that somewhere.

But in the end, I just think that are the small tweaks on the lightning/reflections. Those affect all.

There has always been grip loss from dirty tyres, they may have raised it a little, or it may just be because a lot of us normally race with higher grip tyres which regain their grip better after getting dirty possibly (if you have noticed it on the seasonal event which I did).
But yeah it definitely lost me some time after on Laguna by making me not hit the following apex when back on track.

You can buy parts for cars borrowed from friends now. However, i dont know if the upgrades are lost when changing cars. I have only tested this with tires.

It's lighTING. Not lighTNING. Just helping you out.

And the standards did get upgraded. If the smoke effects got fixed, it only seems right that they did do something to the standards. They look cleaner/smoother for the most part. Definitely not all of them are better, some I suppose.
