Griffith500What's the difference? I see subjectivity in both options.
EDIT: Clearly, we should take what gkt said to be in his opinion / experience / etc. GT5 is the best game for him (and he probably should have worded it that way, too). That's all this discussion can ever boil down to.
Of course, and I respect every other opinion..I just found excessive the title of this thread!
Had to laugh at "looks like a game made in 1998".......so you are saying that the standard cars look like the original gran turismo on the PS1?
What is more important......how a car drives or how it looks?
And I really hope your not looking at those autovista videos and thinking that is what the cars are going to look like when you drive them.......or else your in for one hell of a disapointment.
as for proclaiming a game that isn't even released yet as "king of the Hill:.......yeah.......OK.......![]()

Don't get me wrong, I'm a long time GT fan, but even if Fm4 turns out to be disappointing (like GT5), Fm3 is still king of the hill already, by some distance imo.
Different tastes for different people. I dont see how a game that cant get more than 8 cars on the track, has no dynamic weather or time shifts and a poorer physics engine can be "King of the Hill".
Of course if you dont care for those features you may feel differently.
Different tastes alright, 16 cars on the track is fine but when the Ai is as dull and predictable as GT5's I'll take the 8 with better AI + better framerate, less screentearing. The physics are better in GT5 - apart from tyre wear -, but for me it's wasted when it's attached to such an insipid career mode. Overall while each game does some things better than the other, FM3 is the better game imo.
NoxNoctis UmbraAfter seeing that TURN10 actually listen to fans...
I don't care what anyone says, I appreciate PD's restraint..Forza has always been visually attractive and it would be easy for kaz to follow suit to make what many would call a better game..but I don't think the final product would be better gameplay..besides for all the listening turn10 and microsoft do, can anyone explain why a third party company in direct conjunction w/them(much like logitech and pd) has not released a ffb 900degree wheel? Yes there's fanatec ones avail, but no one is going to get them from their local best buy...forza is beautifully created, but for all its iterations, it simply does not capture the imagination that the GT series has throughout the years. Personally the only thing that tempted me to forsake pd was online play, and even then I made the effort to attain multiple ps2s and copies of gt4, as well as the infuriating xlink process which never came to fruition...its a slippery slope guys, it starts innocently enough w/ engine swaps and fully customizable liveries, but eventually it devolves into underglow, fart pipes, and garish paint/decals/vinyls. Think public lobbies are bad now? Wait until every little kid that grew up on fast and the furious realizes he can make the car of his dreams and ram to his hearts content on your clean racing room..be thankful PD doesn't seem to listen to all its buyers, it prevents certain demographics from taking interest where they are not needed..just as NASCAR and drifting don't appeal to everyone, PD shouldn't have to..
Angles shouldn't matter in that case. You can clearley see major differences, the wheels being the most noticable.
The flaws and glitches in GT5 pale in comparison to the crap I had to deal with in Forza 3.
Well, let's get into the Way Back Machine for a littlee evo-lution of my attitudes concerning Forza 3...I am shocked (shocked) that you feel this to be the case.
Jordan, I'll have to say that even with the plastic MS FFB wheel, the driving in Forza 3 is quite a blast. If you'd insist on having 270 degree rotation, you can get the Fanatec wheel itself for less than $200 US, and use the G25 pedals with it.
On the liveries, sometimes vinyls line up easily, sometimes it takes a little work. On my Fiesta, I was going to add a white border around the headlights, but getting the fine width right and without blurring was too painful so I dropped it. But if I really wanted to spend an hour on it, I could have done it. You can pretty much do whatever you want with this livery editor, or find someone online who can.
Thanks Terronium. At first, I wasn't sure if I really liked it or not, but it grew on me pretty quickly. Unfortunately, I got as little heavy handed with the saturation on the pics, and now when I look at them, instead of looking color enhanced, they look color-ized. But darn it, the Forza site drains out half the color for some stupid reason. For a fairly old software company, MS really is quite sucky at almost everything.
Yep, Die Hard.
And here we go with the 360 issues with a Forza game again. Last time, it was shifting liveries, a garage which could crash your 360, and an Auction House that could get you banned from Live if you happen to loose your connection while in it. I really dig Forza, and I wouldn't sell my 360 even though I couldn't care less about the 360 library otherwise, but this rushed, buggy stuff from T10 is getting a little old. Maybe "definitive" covers game issues too, because these are definitively lame. My various folders are about 90 seconds to load now.
It does seem that it scrolls a little faster by about a second if you push through one at a time and let them load, rather than holding the pad down. I hope they get something resolved, because I'm just getting started, and I intend to have a ton of decals, liveries, replays, photos, cars... everything.
Oh, and about the USB stuff. They blame it on security issues, not being able to plug USB drives or other things in, but it seems they don't want a repeat of what happened with the XBox. People found out you could crack it easily, and tens of thousands of them got purchased to use as cheap servers and other computing tasks. MS just about had kittens when they found out, because they make their money with game and peripheral sales, and Live. And they're determined the same thing won't happen with the 360. So far so good, but we, the honest consumer, are screwed because of it.
Wow... I was going to run a couple of races with a couple of liveries each, and just the first run, because of the stupid file bogging... has taken ALL FREAKING NIGHT! I fell asleep on the game waiting for a pic save to work.
I'm going to finish up this one project, at least this stage of it, and then I'm walking away from this game for a while. I'm wasting my whole life, waiting on this idiotic game to process simple saves and loads which would be done in seconds on the old, antique PS2.
I swear, Microsoft ruins everything they touch.
I'll have to say that sometimes a simple, basic splash of vinyls like that really makes for a cool livery. Some of those like the CCGT and Porsche Carrera have me scratching my head on what to do with them. Then again, I'M NOT HAVING ANY FUN WITH FORZA'S PEE POOR FILE HANDLING! GAH!
I'm taking a break from this stupid game and having fun with Ratchet & Clank for a while. The livery I made isn't really a GT Planet job anyhow, but it's close. I'll post it when I have two hours - or MORE - I don't mind throwing down a black hole while I fot around waiting for pics to load.
I also think I squashed the SONY logo too much. At some point, I'm gonna give that a close look and maybe fix it. Unfortunately, everything will be a snap but the frooking S, which is a pain in the lower quadrant...
Your GT Planet GT-R is making me want to work on my own stuff again. Very inspiring. It's just that I have a couple of issues to wrangle.
1. The slow... and I mean SSLLLLOOOOWWWWW file handling. It literally takes me hours to get cars set for a shoot, take pics, sort, post to my storefront, download and tweak so they look remotely presentable, stick in one of my image hosting sites, and then post here.
2. I just got an LG HDTV replacing my beloved Bravia - which is a hand me down Christmas present - and this thing is driving me nuts, trying to get a proper image out of it. It's a highly recommended TV, but you have to hope that someone's settings online will make it happy, or resort to some sort of calibration deal. Which I'm going to... I just hope it's good enough for now to get me by till then. MEH...
(The last post in alba's thread, by the way).I don't know what's wrong with these knot heads, but I think it looks swank. 👍
Unfortunately, I'm still put off by the file handling, and with the guvmint forcing us all to pull overtime, I just don't have hours of free time to pull my hair out fighting the file bog working on cars, then pulling my hair our some more to go through the conniptions to get a messed up image off of the Forza site and into my sharing services. I also don't have $100 or more for a decent capture card right now to avoid half the headache. Good GOD, sometimes MS just doesn't have a clue...
I assure they do not "all". Many of the standards do, I agree, but they most certainly not "all" drive by the same physics.Very fair points.
I mean to say that it is the best physics engine currently available on a console racer and whilst I wish there was not such an obvious difference between the quality of the standard car vs the premium car I am very happy that PD chose to include these 800+ standard cars instead of only having premium's in the game.
What they loose in looks they more than make up for in the outstanding selection of cars available all of which operate under that same physics engine as the premiums.
I'm not sure what "maths" are.I am not trolling my friend, I just found your question pretty simplistic...anyway I can assure I have played a lot of sims..I am 35...do the maths
What's the difference in what? What's the difference? I see subjectivity in both options.
So publicity acts now dictate the best games on the planet?Bottom line, they don't have a championship in Forza and the winner goes on to win real life races...
Maybe not to you, but to ME and plenty of others, these things are important. Sure, they're not for everybody, but I don't understand the argument that they should be left out. Maybe, maybe the FATF-style mods may be a little too much, but a livery editor, advanced tuning and body kits should absolutely be part of GT.Engine swaps, super advanced tuning options, body kits, advanced livery editors and fast and the furious style visual blah simply doesn't speak to ME.
I assure they do not "all". Many of the standards do, I agree, but they most certainly not "all" drive by the same physics.
I don't have any direct problem with standard cars, though I find the inability to change wheels ridiculous, along with some of the standards appearance, and physics. I thought people were exaggerating about the Nomad Diablo until I saw one.
And I could also pluck 2-300 standards and call it a day, I'm sure you've heard this before, but fictional cars, and 2-3 "versions" of every year model of others doesn't do much for me. I understand it's easy programming, but it's also half-assed work taking the easy way so many times.
This is one of the places where I've completely lost faith in PD's direction. That combined with previous mistakes continuing to happen on "premium" cars. I just don't understand how half-assed you have to be doing your job to completely ignore some cars features, I still think the Viper ACR is the best example, since you can't even buy the option it comes with from the factory. How does that get overlooked?
The game taking a long time because they modeled cars perfectly is fine, but fudging them like that tells me they weren't even concerned with quality, and despite all the "work" it took to make 200 premiums, some of them still need done properly?
Inexcusable in my book, people get fired for less.
Maybe not to you, but to ME and plenty of others, these things are important. Sure, they're not for everybody, but I don't understand the argument that they should be left out. This isn't 1997: GT's limited car customisation/personalisation/modification and tuning options are simply no longer acceptable.
I also don't understand the argument that by including the above, GT would somehow be losing its identity or turn into "just another game". GT will always be GT, because the studio making it has this ability to create a product that is so inimitable.
If some don't want to use a livery editor, more advanced tuning options or whatever else, then don't use them. It's not rocket science. But arbitrarily shutting those people out who would like to see those features (and I think it's a substantial amount of people) just doesn't make any sense, not does it make GT any richer.
I'm not sure what "maths" are.
What's the difference in what?
Trick question, I see.
Your preference can be based on a built bias from previous GT's, and familiarity, among other things. Or your preference can be based off what you (analytically) find the best, including enjoy the most.
jdcthe old standards have been given a great overhaul.
When GT5's release was announced, I prebooked the Collector's Edition. Picked it up on release day. I saw what most of you experts were saying about the game.... and left it sealed for many months while I played other stuff. I opened it and started playing two months ago. Honestly, this whole raging over how bad the standard cars look is SO unnecessary. I'm shocked that so many of you continue to be upset over this. They look better than the cars in the majority of other racing games. When I popped the game in, I was expecting to see an absolute trainwreck of a product. Apart from the really easy AI, which you should have been used to by now, I'm not seeing the same piece of crap that most of you seem to own. It's a great looking game with loads to do and it has plenty of cool little unique features, although I did roll my eyes at the Samba Bus race, lol. The new tracks are some of the best ever and the old standards have been given a great overhaul. Rally mode is fantastic. It feels like you're actually in a competition. The improvements to the handling of the cars is far better than in previous games. Hell, you really don't need to tune the majority of them. Just jump in and drive. I have a feeling that there aren't as many fans of Gran Turismo, Kaz and Polyphony as pretend to be here. If this is the most dedicated GT fan site on the internet, then I'd hate to see the worst. Far too many haters willing to bash an effort that isn't nearly the catastrophe that they dramatically make it out to be. I assume that most of you can hardly wait for the release of GT6, so that you can be the first to flame that effort too.
Exactly, in your opinion. A livery editor is on page one of GTP's Feedback page, so someone clearly wants it. Indeed, Kaz said a livery editor would miss GT5, so hopefully they'll be one in GT6.add me to the list of people who couldn't give the tiniest rats ass about a livery editor. I cant think of a more useless feature in a racing sim. in my opinion obviously.
Maybe not to you, but to ME and plenty of others, these things are important.
Possibly. At the very least Standards don't control the same way as Premium equivalents do. Particularly when it comes to center of gravity calculations. They all still use the same physics engine. There may be mistakes on individual cars but they are all still using the same physics engine.
Far closer to a hundred than "a couple." With some of those mistakes being far more obvious than others. But really your that upset that a couple of cars have mistakes on them........out of 1031?
No they don't.They look better than the cars in the majority of other racing games.
No they haven't. In fact, it is well documented that several of them look considerably worse than they did in previous games, due to badly done livery edits and/or glitches.the old standards have been given a great overhaul.
