OK.. ( this is more aimed at long time GT enthusiasts )

Probably going to be locked, but I think this is a very valid discussion.

Now we have our long awaited Track & Car list are you still going to give Sony & PD £150 ( or country equivilant ) for the limited edition Collectors and Signature Editions.

I personally have pre-orderd a signature edition with GAME UK, and have been looking very much forward to this day. ( although this will change by the end of my post )

However, in the last few days thankfully video's and information have been leaked and given us a preview of what to expect. And I must admit I am very greatfull to the person(s) for submitting this information as it has shown me that GT5 is perhaps not the " BIG LEAP " from GT4 that maybe should have been.

Not only is it quite hard to see where the last "FIVE" years development time have gone, ( yes i did put five like that because its a very large amount of time ). But it is also very dissapointing to see that so much of the game has been leftout.

Standard car modding
Many of the original tracks
Lack of cars from recent years
Weather on all tracks
Night Day on all tracks

( before I go any further I would like to state I fully understandwhat goes into making cars and tracks for games , and I do have a very good understanding of the time and effort needed , just incase anyone wants to argue I dont know what I am on about )

I am to say the least very dissapointed to see the pathetic track list that has been released with this game, some of you will argue it's not pathietic, those of you that are old school GT fans will get my point.

There are countless tracks from GT's of old that would have required minimal updating to be included in GT5 , and a small amount of time and man power considerng the big picture of 5 years production and IMO are part of the essence of GT.

Not being able to change the wheels on standard cars is just ridiculous, it was an option in GT4 , but has been removed for GT5 with no apparent reason, Porting cars from one game to another ( trust me is very simple compared to creating new cars )

Weather and day/night transitions limited to certain scenario's and tracks.

We have waited 5 years for this, and the best they can do is implement it in a limited form, this should have been an option for every track.

These are my views and yes they have been discussed lots , but I wanted to give my reasons for what I am about to say, so i'll get to the point.

I am no longer going to to spend £150 of my hard earned money on a product that I feel does not live up to what we have been told by Sony & PD all this time.

I am also not giving them that amount for creating such a mess and acting with complete unproffesionalism ( regardless of the unforseen hitches to release )

I am also not going to give them that money beacuse there is no actual difference in the limited edition's over the standard copy, the differences are outside the game. So I can spend the minimum and still get to play the game in its entirety.

Finally

I have bought and played every GT game since day 1 and have enjoyed every single one of them, However I am also seeing this argument from a PC SIM MODDING point of view, and I feel I must say I have seen small teams of 10 or so people create additons to sim racing games with much more thought, proffesionlism and quality than Sony & PD have shown with GT5.

These are my reasons for Feeling let down by PD and my reasons for lowering my support for them in only buying the base package.

I would like to hear from you guys your opinions on all these things and try to gauge how many of you actually feel the same.

not really but it's paid for, facepalm in 3...2...1

Deal with it.

The only aspect you mentioned that discourages me is the lack of original tracks we've seen in previous GT games. The other ones I think are fairly reasonable. I'm still getting my collector's edition, though.

Glad I didn't put a preorder in for the sig edition now. I will be purchasing the standard edition now.

And another thread which implies disappointment. It's getting pretty tedious.

I will purchase the UK version for 44 Euros. If I'm really satisfied I'll buy the APEX book

You can always change

This is my point though..

If you have bought and played all previous GT games.. this is a BIG dissapointment.

Most people that come out with ... DEAL WITH IT.. STOP CRYING ETC ETC... will most likely not be hardcore GT fans.

@Sonic Volcano - Having only 80 posts my guess is this your first / second GT game ?

^^It's not a disappointment at all. GT5 has more premium cars and tracks than were in GT3 total. GT4 expanded on the car and track count since they didn't have worry about building a new base for the game. We'll see the same thing with GT6.

I really think that in the future, when people look back at the Gran Turismo series' history, GT5 is going to be viewed as a low point. For the reasons the OP listed.

I guess you have to ask yourself if you want to commemorate GT5? I really think GT6 is going to hands down kick GT5's butt, because PD is going to realize how royally they mismanaged it.

I can't make a conclusion on something I haven't played

You have to understand that hardcore GT fans are happy with anything as long as it has the GT logo on it, those are the ones saying deal with it. Its easier for them to look past any shortcomings.

The casual fan is in more of a position to look at things as they really are, and they tend to be more picky too.

As far as your topic, while there are things I'm disappointed about with this game, Im still getting the CE, for 1 reason alone, that book that comes with it. Great reading when im on the can.:sly: I couldnt care less about that tiny little car statue, or a keychain.

I agree but after having only 6 tracks and 70 so cars for the last 3 years I'll be glad to get 20 tracks and 1000 cars. But again I must agree I m disappointed. I ve played them all from day 1 and have the CE pre ordered.

I can't make a conclusion on something I haven't played

I have been lucky enough to play the demo at the sony beta rooms in UK. And it was as usual AWSOME ( as GT always is )

But its not the playability that's dissapointing.

Its the lack of content for a 5 year in the making " Ground Breaking " game.

This, from someone with 158 posts compared to the thousands that some other active users have in this forum, is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen posted today.

On topic, I cancelled my UK CE pre-order this morning in favour of the standard edition because I no longer had any enthusiasm for the CE fluff. The lacklustre tracklist doesn't stop me wanting the game, but it does affect how I feel about it still further.

I fully agree with the OP. I also cancelled my preorder for the collectors edition.

+ pd/sony fooled us with the release date and with the lack of information
+ 800 ported cars which consist of countless cars which should have premium
+ over 1000 cars and there are still missing a countless number of iconic cars
+ customisation is a joke compared to other titles
+ 150 nissans and 100 hondas = a joke

but the casual first timer wont have experienced all the content that is lacking, therefore won't know to by dissapointed by its lack of inclusion.

Sorry but it's the hardcore GT'ers that will miss the content way more..

and its the hardcore GT'ers , that have helped pay for this title to be made.

Also comes with 5 chrome vehicles too. :)

I have been on this forum for many years under other names.. the fact that I only have a few posts under this name really means nothing.

I have been a GT fan since PS1 and day 1 of GT

I asked about volcano and his post count, beause of his reply implies he is new( ish ) to GT.

you can't change wheels on the standard cars??? I didn't know that! Whats the deal with that??

Still getting my CE though

I can understand your somewhat loss of interest in the "Signature Edition" with feeling let down with some of the recent announcements.

Many folk have got overhyped, particulary on these forums. Its unlikely GT5 will live upto the high expectations, perhaps too high some people have for certain things regards the game.

For me though, the game should not be compared to what people expected but to what if offers compared to other console games and how it improves to its own past releases.

Most "Special Editions" usually dont offer very much more in the actual games themselves but in other so called collectable extras. The "Signature Edition" seems no different in that respect with really only having some additional "Downloadable Cars". We also are not guranteed they will stay exclusive or for how long, even the "Dynamic Theme" is available on the CE.

Weather/Tracks
For me the track list and weather situation is quite a let down...
I agree that many like yourself had our hopes up and thinking we could apply weather to many tracks if we wanted. Perhaps in private lobby mode this is going to be different as it may be to do with them wanting to maintain the 60fps in the single player experience as much as possible. We do know the graphical inferior "Track Builder" tracks can sustain weather and night of day so it should still provide some excellent additions.

So only .....

Suzuka Circuit (Weather)
Circuit de la Sarthe 2009 (Time / Weather)
Nürburgring 24h (Time / Weather)
Autodromo Nazionale Monza (Weather)
High Speed Ring (Weather)
Eiger Nordwand Track Short Track (Weather)
Special Stage Route 7 / Night (Weather)
Chamonix Main (Weather)
Chamonix East (Weather)
Chamonix West (Weather)
Chamonix Mini (Weather)

Yeah I feel a bit let down on the weather/track situation too...

I dont agree with your comments on questioning why this has taken "FIVE" years as everything in the game shown so far seems to be done to a very high level of detail. The presentation and various game modes/challenges. Lights/Weather/Night racing, new audio sounds, damage, track builder. Then we have head tracking, 3DTV, B Spec Mode, Youtube Uploads, New Photomode, Improved Replay Options. Also we know very little yet of the online options and modes available.

Come on, the game will still be "The Benchmark" and I think for quite sometime and we cant have everything the fans wanted. Maybe you should look at having the 800 odd cars from GT4 as a bonus that they are actually their to play rather than a disappointment just because you cant change wheels etc. The premiums look fantastic though and personally I wish they wold do Forza Style "Car Packs" in the future as I would pay extra to have them as would Im sure others.

Lets wait to play the game before we condemn it. As for the "Signature Edition" Im also wavering on cancelling mine too.

Wonder how others feel....

I admit: I have only played GT5:P, but as someone else said: GT3 had only 150 cars and no-one complained, as far as I know.

Plus, maybe these so-called 'hardcore fans' should alter their expectancy level. A line should be drawn somewhere. You asked for weather. They put it in. You asked for nightracing. They put it in. You asked for better physics. They put it in. You asked for better engine sounds. They put it in. The list goes on.

The most peculiar thing of all is this: you give a verdict of an unreleased game. You either stole a copy or you are God.

Too bad you rank quantity over quality, by the way.

well at least thats a constructive answer Mr Latte..

Also comes with 5 chrome vehicles too. :)

Yep forgot, I want that too, but the keychain is pretty unimportant to me, and im sure that little car is good quality if Kyosho made it, but still, it's just something that sits there collecting dust.

That book is what I want, there's screenshots of it on the GT site, it looks pretty nice. 300 pages? Keep me busy on those long trips to the bowl! =)

....But it is also very dissapointing to see that so much of the game has been leftout.

Standard car modding
I've mused over this in several other threads.

Has it been confirmed that we will be unable to mod the Standard cars in terms of engine, suspension, weight, etc...?

This thread is bit pointless to me. If you don't want it, cancel the preorder and dont buy the game. End of story.
