Do you think Gran Turismo would be better if developed for the PC?

I'm just trying to imagine the possiblities of what could of have been and maybe hoping for a release that is not contrained by a console's limitations

Simply put, yes. PC Games have a bigger modding community, so even if the game sucks, it can usually be made much better. And they're way more powerful than consoles.
But would it be as successful / sell as well? Probably not.

yes, but would it sell as much and reach as many people? probably not. I am also a sim racer, but not many people are seriously into that. They like the glitz and glam, simple life.

It would take a ridiculously expensive PC to realize Kaz's vision. Probably about 5K. PC graphics aren't too much better looking then PS3, actually Crisis is the only PC game that looks better then Killzone 2 witch is a PS3 game. Todays CPU's still aren't much faster then the PS3's and most have even less cores. This is why you wont see PS4 for a while, technology hasn't improved much since PS3 launched 4 years ago.

It would be just perfect!
Damn its actually my dream, how good would it look in a top pc with like 16x AA, no jagged shi T shadows or crap trees and stuff, ow god it would be photo realistic all the time not only in photo mode.

Why not PS3 and PC? All the people who only have PC's and Xbox because for some reason they dont like PS3 would enjoy the game as well.

Yes it would look massively better. My mates pc has a far higher spec than my ps3 (from my limited knowledge of pc's). However as mentioned, if there were no hardware limits do you think Kaz would ever actually release gt6? Ha

It would make me consider pc gaming if gt series moved to pc.

PC's are bloated because of Windows, they are inefficient, total waste of power. Console all the way. The PC gaming market has been on a steady decline for years now, no games sell on PC, all of there developers are jumping ship to console, even Sony's own PC gaming division SOE are puting there games on PS3 now.

I think if it were a PC game though they might be better operated under the WoW model and actually make it into a MMORPG thing that expand constantly...Consoles are pretty limited in that respect.

State of the PC games market etc is a different argument.

In terms of processing power and suitability for in depth sims there is no comparison between any console and a high end PC.

How come everytime a game comes out, it would automatically be better on PC? I don't get this kind of thinking. More power doesn't mean better game. There's no such thing as "enough power" yet, and certainly not for Kaz.

It COULD look better, but the chances are, it could also actually look worse. Why? Because they have to target the average computer, not the most powerful. And don't think there wouldn't be complaints. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

More power doesn't necessary mean better game. The potential is bigger, but it's all up to the developer.

Either way, this is a pointless hypthetical question, because Gran Turismo will not ever be a PC game unless Sony decides to stop making consoles and become multiplatform or PC only developer.

Youre right. 300 for a ps3 or a couple grand for a high end pc. Seems obvious.

Jeez, why are there always so many misinformed people when it comes to console vs PC.

It doesn not cost £5000 for a pc to spank PS3 graphics. Infact my computer cost me around about £700 and I have yet to see a game which looks better on PS3.

Get yourself a £150 Quad Core processor (or more, if you want), a £200-300 graphics card (I have a Asus 5850), 4GB of ram, 6 if you prefer - £100. It really doesn't cost as much as some of you are making out.

I can run any game, in 1920x1080, with AAx16, AFx16 and still get 60+ FPS all the time.

The PS3 really isn't the amazing machine people try and say it is. "OH its got 8 cores its amazing bla bla bla". No. It's not.

The only reason consoles sell so well is because they're an easy, straight out of the box solution. The same reason DVD players sell better than DVD drives, the same reason production cars sell better than kit cars etc.

technology hasn't improved much since PS3 launched 4 years ago.

LOL. Just LOL. Get with the times man ;)
By the time you have read this - technology will have just improved a little bit. It's a "minutely" thing.

The mods alone would make it a better game. I guarantee we'd see mods to fix a number of our current gripes. FFB mods. Hi res shadow/smoke mods. Mechanical damage mods. And then down the line there'd be upgraded car models that could be patched in. I'd love to see it, but don't think we'll ever see it. There's more money in console games. And GT is a big budget title. It wouldn't happen unless it was cross platform (PS3, 360, PC), and I'm not sure PD needs another technical hurdle to throw in the mix, optimizing for so many different platforms.

Sorry, but that's not even close to being true. There were better gfx cards out for the PC when the PS3 was released. The PS3 is weaksauce when compared to PC's computational & gfx power.

Yeah, it would have been better on the PC but it'll never happen as the economics would never make sense.

PC game market is highly pyrated one, which means its very risky to invest money in, especially when there is a world turmoil on the market. Making it both for pc and ps3 would mean only one thing, pc version (majority of which is gonna be pyrated) will erode sales of ps3. So, its not economicly feasable to produce games for PCs, they are hacked the day they are released.

Or before.

which is why it would make more sense(as it already does for a lot of games now) to be a subscription based game...

There is also better chance of the game evolving with the hardware improvements...

Consoles also sell because it's got an insane amount of great games on them. Just like the PC. As much as I'd like to, I can't play Uncharted 2 or Gran Turismo 5 on my PC. If I could, I'd go for the PC version, because the games are cheaper, and most likely look slightly better.

PC's are great for gaming. Consoles are great for gaming. That's all there is to it, really.

If some developer had created GT5 for the PC, it would have needed STUPENDOUS recommended requirements, just to get the game up and running as it is on the PS3.

PC's may be more powerful, but the developers are second-rate! 👍

It may be able to be more in depth but it would need a monster PC and it wouldnt sell nearly as many copies.

To effectively run a good graphic sim you usually need a custom built PC which most people wont do, and the PC's that come "equipped" for gaming usually have weak points.

Also, glitches, hackers, and modders split and ruin/help the communities for PC racing. They are good for the fact that they add content for free, but they hurt it by splitting the already small community of sim racers.

Console allows GT to reach millions, if it was on PC it would be <100k people and it wouldn't be the "GT" we know.

I would say it is much easier to code for a machine which is designed to JUST play games, than it is to code for a machine that can do hundreds of other things. I'm taking a Game Design Technology Degree.

Developers are developers, same principles go into both systems, console developers just have a better base to start with.
