Do you think that GT5 will have multiplayer "Track Days"?

Do you think there should be a limit as to how many cars on the track?

Of course it depends on the track, but I think it could be something like this

18/32 slots filled -- 800+ HP cars only -- Night/Day-- Currently 20:20 in-race time-- Nurburgring (32 car limit)

3/20 slots filled -- 200-300 HP cars only -- Night/Day-- Currently 0824 in-race time-- Spa (20 car limit)
and so on.

That way, you know whether it's day or night when you hop in, how many cars, the track limit, and so on. I honestly think that is the best way to set up the lobby rooms- hoping we don't even get a matchmaking system! :nervous: I, IMHO, really despise them, and think could wreck the whole GT5 online experience.

I could easily imagine this, as a welcome addition to the "serious" online-races.
Just being able to share a track and driving around in a more relaxing and playful manner instead of only being able to do so solo offline.
This could be staged as random events inviting all sorts of different cars but i could also see some sort of club-events developing whereby people celebrate a certain brand or type of car.
The whole garage/pit thing could be transformed to a meeting point, sharing tuning tips and showing off your car.

Track days would be awesome. It'd be sooo much fun with you and 15 friends just shooting the **** while messing around on the 'ring.

Great idea,,would be fun...for adjusting setups etc,,,but with the option of private online lobbys for racing i dont think i would use this option massively..

I didnt know that you could have more than 16 players online!! is this correct?

IF they do it with true dedicated servers, then it's possible to have more than 16 cars online. The servers themselves should easily be able to handle 32.

With the current player=host setup, the max is between 16 and 18, depending on the game.

That said, if they give us some good servers that are capable of 32 players, then the next hurdle to overcome would be the graphical limitations, and if anyone is going to overcome those it'd be PD. But, until they get a great server-based multiplayer set up, no way.

This could be superb! One thing I'd like to see is that when in the 'session' you could start>exit as always and be put to the screen with driving settings, car settings, options etc and in the background where on prologue it shows the AI driving your car, it'd continue to show the session with people on so you could just jump back in after changes.
Possibly the ability to switch cars at this point, since everyone likes showing off their garage.

Excellent thread, there should be a 'rating' system using true-to-life racing flag colours. High crashers can only enter a track-day if given permission etc.the rating could be # Of races/flags. Multiple cars on a trackday on nürburgring would be fantastic! Every one starting on the pits...I'm excited! I pray this is the cause of the delay!!

You can. For some examples, a game called MAG, is a FPS that can have 256 players in a single room.
Socom Confrontation can get up to 32 players in 1 room.
Resistance Fall of Man got up to 40 players in 1 room I believe.

This would be one of my most uses online features, and I really hope they put this feature in the game because I love doing stuff like that online. But I really fear the fact that we will come across some 'rammers' and wreck the whole fun of testing your car online. :nervous:

I thought this as well, it would be awesome!
Not too sure about the ghost cars though, because i like to have to overtake properly, rather than just go through them, but it could implement what GRID has and make it so if they are going backwards, then you can go through them. If not i just hope they make it so that you can create a day using the settings you want.
I love the idea of starting in the pits then coming back to make adjustments to your setup.
I also love the thought of it being such a mixed field, it adds the fun of "WOO IM KEEPING UP WITH AN ENZO!" if you are in your tuned cheap car.
Ooh the weather system would also be really cool here! If the rooms are hosted by sony and therefore are open all the time, it would be really cool to see the changes in the track, like if it rained and the track became wet, over time the racing line drying out. In SBK X, that track system is really good, the line can dry out on a wet day or if it is a dry day, you get rubber stuck on the track at the braking point and it becomes more grippy there, if something similar gets put in, i will be pretty fecking happy :D

i think track days would be amazing fun especially with dedicated servers as we good have large track days for GTplanet members and that would be great !!!!!!

Hahaha I really like the ideas being thrown around and adding more and more to this great idea.

Kaz had this in an interview a long time ago and there was the mention of the track days and such, so I can only hope that they are one step ahead of us on this.

I always forget about that list, and it gives me so much hope seeing it again.

easily one of the things im looking forward too the most, after the complete eff up of forza 3's online mode i haven't played anything really for most of a year.

if it was a proper track full of peeps, test car, drive back to garage, tune car, go out and test again style thing i don't think i would ever do anything else :dopey:

I would definitely love this feature. Especially if you can go into the pits and tune your car without leaving the session.

this would be so good maybe you could take three cars so you could change between 3 cars and tune them :)

I hope so, but thinking about it, as long as you have private rooms and a reasonable level of customization for those private rooms, track days should be easy to setup anyway.

If I am honest though, I can't see the appeal of running laps in a public room, I mean you can run them unimpeded by yourself. I guess it must be just fun to 'cruise' with other people. To each their own I guess. :p

Indeed they have been...

Races and Track Days
First and foremost is the Race. In addition to the free match races as seen in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue where you don’t know who you’ll race against next, it will now be possible to gather your closest friends and acquaintances, set a variety of rules, and enjoy races the way you want to.
And of course racing isn’t the only thing you can do. You can host "Track Days", where everyone can drive freely on the track. You can try to reduce your laptimes, teach someone how to drive, or just enjoy drifting. There’s an infinite amount of ways to have fun here

Scaff

Can't wait for this. Seriously. Imagine starting your online session with 5-6 friends as a track day, fool around and drive around for a while, then everyone gets in the pits and drive a single lap, positioning your cars in the starting line brackets painted on the asphalt (I don't know what they're called), getting ready for the actual race.

Epic! My social life is over once this game comes out. My girlfriend will NOT appreciate it.

With the horn and the trackday function, I can imagine people using there big fast tuned Supra's/Skylines and the like having roll-on races at tracks like Le mans and the Test Track, races much like you see on Youtube.

The Track Day option is one of the features I was most looking forward too :-)

Sooo looking forward to this too! Like others have said, it'll be great if we can drive a few laps.....pit in and change suspension parameters......then leave the pits and test out the new tune!!

It would be really cool if they could implement a time attack mode based on this, allowing somewhere like half an hour or more to hotlap, pit and take on new tires/fuel as well as adjusting settings, and others could join the session during the middle of it all (perhaps with a cutoff that they can't join if less than five minutes remain, maybe).

Thats what I was wondering.
If we will be able to enter the track whenever we want? Like a drop in drop out open track. I think L4S has something like this where you enter whenever you want for hot lap races.
