Dodge Dart: DEAD?

The Dart would be good if it wasn't called Dart. Dodge calling that the Dart is like Ford naming the Focus the Torino, or Chevy naming the Volt the Chevelle. It's just not right.

1st of all get your Car segments together, a The Fusion would be called a Tornio today.... a Equalvent Ford Compact back in the day that can compare to the Focus would be the "Falcon"

Compacts in 60's standards

Chevy Nova
Ford Falcon
Dodge Dart
Plymouth Valiant

The wireless charger sounds like a nice feature. Can anyone comment on the charging rate of things like the Powermat?

Hard to say. A bunch of different companies have tried doing the wireless charging scheme a variety of ways, and they've all worked to varying degrees. When I had my Palm Pre, I believe they suggested that the Touchstone charging system would charge the phone in about 2-3 hours. I don't think the technology has changed that much in the last three years, so I'd assume its about the same while charging in the Dart.

In my opinion?

This is a pretty brilliant add-on, and I'm surprised its taken this long for car companies to latch on to. I'm not sure to what extent Dodge would be working with other companies to do stuff like this, but being able to place my phone onto a magnetic mat that will not only hold it, but also charge it, while connecting Pandora, BlueTooth, or whatever to my MMI system is pretty awesome. Ditching the cables is even better.

If they sell a bunch, I wouldn't be surprised to see GM and Ford do it in a year or so. Clever tech is all-over these days... GM's adaptation of cell phones to power GPS systems in vehicles is yet another step in the right direction. Why should I have to pay for OnStar or some kind of crazy system when I have a phone that will already do it?

I dunno. It's not a bad looking car, but I agree it should be more similar to the original Dart. And besides, it's based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, which I would buy over the Dart any day.

How much more similar do you want them? Both are compact Dodge's.

The new Dart doesn't need RWD, anything bigger than a 4cylinder, or "retro" styling, which are the only three things I can think of that would make it more similar to the 3rd gen Dart.

Yeah, I guess I just worded that wrong. What I'm trying to say is, they shouldn't have called it Dart. Maybe something like Shadow or Omni. And anyway, I here they're planning on reintroducing Alfa Romeo to America, so why would anyone buy that over the Giulietta? Although I guess it would be cheaper.

There's no guarantee that Alfa will hit the U.S. yet, so it's moot. People aren't going to hold out for a car that might not arrive.

Plus, Dodge is established in the U.S, Alfa is not.

The generation of people buying the car hardly know what a Dart is. You aren't going to get some old, fast guy attempting to relive his youth with one.

And Alfa's won't sell well in the US and I'm really surprised Fiat is even trying. They have a stigma attached to them for being unreliable and just plain crap. The 8C is a little different because there's only a handful of them here. With that said though we have Alfa's running all over by where I live, the neighbor down the street has a brand new 156 wagon that he's doing something with for Chrysler. Maybe there are plans.

brand new 156 wagon

There's no such thing, 156 wagons haven't been sold for six or seven years now ;) 159 perhaps? Even then, Alfa Romeo only produces two different cars these days - the MiTo and the Giulietta.

Thats not what I meant, its more of a traditional thing, if that makes sense.

It looks like a Berra or however it's spelled but instead of a three door hatch its a 5 door station wagon. It's a 15-something

True, I guess it's just me being typically European.

Perhaps one of these? I think it's a lovely car. Especially the 3.2 V6.

I would like this version. Although... I'm guessing that all cost upwards of $500,000...💡

One thing I wonder about that is, does that mean the platform was designed in a way that would allow AWD models (which a million people may have already asked in this thread, but I haven't been paying much attention to it lately)?

300HP AWD SRT-4 sounds nice.

Brera  And yes, that'll be a 159 Wagon. Though Alfa has stopped making them now I think. The factory that was producing them has been re-tooled for the new Panda.

Yes, the platform that it is built on was designed for both front and all wheel drive but I don't think they ever used it for AWD on any car.

Ya that's it, the 159 . They are everywhere here, along with a couple other Alfas and even a few Lancia's.

Dodge Dart Pricing
There are five trims in total, but only the R/T gets the Tigershark 184-horsepower engine. Here's the full breakdown:

Dodge Dart SE- $15,995

Dodge Dart SXT - $17,995

Dodge Dart Rallye - $18,995

Dodge Dart Limited - $19,995

Dodge Dart R/T - $22,495 (available Q3 2012)

Remember to add the $950 destination fee to each of those for their real-world prices.

Not bad :)

I know the times have changed and quality is certainly better, but remember when you could get a 240hp turbocharged Neon for $20k? (SRT-4) At this rate the next SRT-4 will be around $25-27k which is too much IMO.

The neon was cheap speed in my opinion. I don't think the dart is the same thing.
I think the SRT Dart is/will/hopefully be a competitor for the Focus ST. Making the higher price sound sane.

$22k will get you a lot more car on a late-model used market. To compete with the ST, SRT better come with Recaros and other goodies.

I suppose it depends on how much standard equipment it comes with. Does seem about a grand too high, though; considering that's around what the Civic Si costs.

$22k isn't really overpriced considering it's about on par with the upper versions of the Cruze and Focus. Cars are just more expensive now.

^^ True unfortunately. In about 20 years buying a $20k car will be like purchasing a Ferrari if wages stay the same.

In the UK $22,000 would only just get you the cheapest Focus currently on sale. :indiff:

It's a shame they aren't bringing it to the UK, although we do have a bad image of Dodge over here, after the Nitro and Avenger. Looks like we'll be getting the Fiat Viaggio instead.
