Does GT Sport Represent a Generational Leap Over GT6?

Nice. I'm looking forward to getting it - not that I wasn't before, mind you but having stayed away from a lot of the snippets revealed so far, I am liking what I see.

Having had the Beta for a while now, I have to say I think GT Sport is nothing short of fantastic. Yes, there's a few quirks but as a game it's a perfect mix of challenging / rewarding / exciting. I feel that my lap times have improved a lot simply by learning the differences between each car and learning the tracks. For me, GT6 didn't give me the level of feedback I get in GT Sport to improve my times.

And don't get me started on the graphics.. It's car porn!

Saw the DF video only very recently. To be fair, I don't believe it sheds light on everything that has changed and/or improved, in order to let audiences gauge properly if it is indeed a generation leap.

All he talks about half the time is graphics, graphics, graphics... and they've always sold GT primarily on graphics. There was very little talk of sound and no talk at all of the physics.

For me personally physics, car behaviour, tire models and things like that are much more important than lights, rendering and so on . What counts is "under" the engine hood !
Uhhh. Look how fine the cars look like.......🤬 - i wanna feel it ! Nothing more, nothing less.
They put so much time in this graphical features.....I hope they don´t forget the racing component.... ;-)

That's what Digital Foundry specialises in.

What is Digital Foundry?

Digital Foundry was founded in 2004 and began publishing tech analysis on Eurogamer in 2007, with a YouTube channel following the next year. The team specialises in technical analysis of new game releases along with console and PC hardware.

The time for Polyphony Digital expired, we are living a new era.
This one is on the house. You're gonna need it:sly:

Not sure I can take this one seriously from DF. I mean is that a real question? Is GTS a generational leap over a PS3 game ( which was technically worse than GT5)? Why not compare it to a current game? I don't know, Pcars, Driveclub, Forza. An odd decision or carefully thought out?

Is it a bad thing to have more detailled environment or cars? Of course not. Do I care? Not at all. I rather play Richard Burs Rally that any other modern Rally Sim, because of the way the car feels. Thats what a Simulation is all about. The series started with the slogan "Gran Turismo - The real driving simulator". I feel that the graphics evolved much much more from that first GT than anything else. It's time to focus on the realistic aspect of other parts. Sound, tire and suspension model, damage, time and weather. I'd rather have half the polygon count on the cars and no animated spectators if that gives me proper wet track and gravel simulation, because those are things that were never properly improved over the years.

Personnaly I am really worried about the end of the "Rpg" side of the game. For me Gran Turismo series was special because it's was like a car Rpg : you start with a weak car and you improve it race after race.
I didn't get the luck to try Gt Sports but the game look very poor on this side of the gameplay which is for me is the real soul of Gt game.

I could not agree more.

+1 I feel the same way.

Oh absolutely, that's the ticket! That's precisely what brings me back to a racing game week in and week out. If I just want some car porn, maybe I'll watch a car movie like F&F and just get it out my system. The soul of a racing game is very important.

This made me chuckle:

In terms of performance, GT Sport definitely sees improvement over GT6. While GT6 struggled to maintain 60 fps at 1080p, for the most part GT Sport stays at 60 fps at the same resolution. The only exception to this is during scenes with multiple cars on screen, where the fps dips to the low 50s and high 40s.

So, that means when you're racing you should have high 40 to low 50 frames per second. Ergo, GTSport sounds like it struggles to stay at 60fps. Or am I misreading something? Personally, I never had a problem with the frame rate of GT6, but then again, it was the only game that I played. So, maybe I just didn't know any better? I can safely say that my eyes never bled after a long session staring at the screen. :)

I believe that was for the 4k version. 60fps is a must for VR though.

During the start of the races is what the article/video were referring to.

At 9:35 of the video: "We don't get a complete 60 fps lock, at least with base hardware."

Base hardware - 1080p.

Aha. Well, that's not good. There was no link in the quote so I wasn't sure which video ALB was referring to.

Sorry about that fellas. I didn't watch the video...I was only referring to the written article. Again...my bad. Apologies. :(

I don't think we have a headcount but there are lots of people here on GTP that are in the beta. They are all over the place of course but you'll find them in the Video Thread, General Discussion Thread, Physics Thread etc.

I just got the SEA beta key also. If you register with a PSN ID with GT6 record in there i bet you would get it.

Yeah~ beta tester all over the place . i guess beta is kinda of a way to stop us from ranting bout the release date LOL
