A car gt4 should include for drag racing, if they can find any left, is an 1968 a-bomb. Fibreglass front panels, 500 + hp hemi, light weight drums, no way to open the windows, and capable of 10 seconds 1/4 times straight from the dealer.

As far a drag racing goes im definatly stoked that it is in the game, its what i have grown up with its what im used to and for most people it is the most accesible type of racing there is... Pull up next to some one at a stop light and GO! Drifting was born in japan, but for the most part you need a wide open area such as a huge parking lot or a race track to do it, road racing was born in Europe and minus autocross you need a race track, and drag racing was born in the US and all u need is a straight stretch of road.... It would be nice if we all had the oppertunity to drift or road race, but i can garuntee anyone with a drivers liscense can drag race! Drag racing on a actual 1/4 is awesome, and im not suporting street racing but 95% of drag racing is done on the street... just trying to shed some light on why me as an American and American's in general love drag racing!

I'm gonna love the drag racing in GT4 but unfortently you probbaly won't be able to tune cars quite like a drag only game. I mean I doubt you can get tranny brakes or different fuels etc. :(

you can't have everything...yet.

Drag racing, in GT at least doesn't exite me that much thanks to Europes love of circuit racing. The umpteen amount of corners from international circuits will always be more appealing to me, well at least in a Videogame. In real life however I have respect for it as a form of motorsport that almost anyone can compete in that does require a certain amount of skill with reaction and shifting etc. If I had to drag anything, it would be the English built and designed Ford RS200 Evo, 4wd mid engined, 1.8 turbo making around 600bhp with a weight of around 1000kgs it should kick a fair amount of arse. Although i'd rather be thrashing it around a rally track.

Any real drag car would kick this. Rally cars would be able to beat street cars in a drag but no a true drag car. Real drag cars have 800+ horsepower and tires wider than a civic.

launching an RS200 hard on tarmac would be pretty rough on the drivetrain too. It's not built for that kind of thing. In a drag car, you can do an engine rebuild between runs because of the relative simplicity of their layouts.

Something complicated and exotic like the RS200's turbo mill and other components would be kind of hard to find and refit if it decided to puke up shrapnel on the track.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

*Looks at the Mustang in your post*

Oh my Goddess....That Mustang makes me think of the word "Stampede"....  :O

I would drag race a TVR speed 12. Stock it can do 11.1 seconds tuned i could probably get it in the high 8's.
A SL65 AMG isnt the best mercedes in the game. I bet that a CLK-DTM would kick any muscle cars ass, stock it does 10.9 sec. tuned it would kick ass.

The fact is people, we all are terrified by American mucsle when it comes to drag racing. A 426 Hemi with just a racing cam can make 650 HP! Americans are no doubt the best in drag racing. But I wouldn't mind running my Corolla AE86 with 500 HP downt the strip! lol.

I would have to agree with you on that! :O I too get terrified by an American Muscle when it comes to drag racing. I never drag raced before but was challenged. It was my LT1 Camaro Z28 against this I believe its a 1969 Camaro. The guy came to the side of me and called me "Babe" which I sorta didnt like based from the way he looks...

Anyways, he asked me if I wanted to have a quick "cute" race down the street and he REVS HIS ENGINE LIKE MAD! GRROOOM GrroOOOoOOM! :nervous:
I dont street race, but just hearing that Camaro rev just made me completely pale and terrified that I want to sink myself down into my seat and cry in TERROR!

I told him "no thanks" and he said "its ok." The lights turn green and he did a LARGE LONG burnout and sped away! Just by watching that Camaro go...I knew I would be the coughing loser from the smokes that his wheels made. :nervous:

Anyways, drag racing is sure to increase the "funnest" of GT4 and to add more value to it. :O

I wonder if PD is considering adding cars like that to GT4.

oh, and just to end this silly SL56 AMG vs Ford GT fight, I looked for 1\4 mile time for both, and the bset I found were:

SL65 AMG (604 hp and 700+ ft-lb) : 11.74
Ford GT (500hp and around 500 ft-lb) : 11.78

so as you can see, very close! but considering the 0-60 time is much slower on the benz, it must have some pretty mean acceleration to catch up to the ford, so I would say, after the 1\4 mile the benz would just keep pulling away...

The best I've seen for the Ford GT was a 11.30.

You Europeans will never understand drag racing. You don't race Mercedes Coupes or Rally cars. An 8 second drag car could be built for way less money. This corvette runs the 1/4 in about 8.49 seconds and cost $35,000 and the mustang 7.96 for $60,000.

Probably because we like our races to be challenging and last longer than a few seconds. Putting a car round a track the fastest you can is hell of a lot more advanced and challenging than a 1/4 mile through the gears sprint. That's why it's only a US thing, no-one else sees the point in it. I respect drag racing buit I don't rate it. Just the way we europeans are I guess. We like our cars to do more than straight lines, we like to perfect our racing line, we like to take a corner on the apex and power out, we sure as hell just don't wanna rev, drop the clutch and change up a few gears at the right time and that's it. We want more of a challenge.

Yeah, I think that's because we grow up seeing two different things. Here in America drag racing is very popular and we love it. Do you guys in Europe have dragsters like our 4 second ones?

There is a european drag series full of these cars, they're shown on men and motors usually at the late hours. I remember hearing about 4 and 5 seconds but I turned it over to eurosport and watched GT racing instead.

Think of Drag racing as the exciting finish. Imagine what the most exciting finish to an F1 season would be like. Webber(or the driver of your choice) and Schumacher are tied in points its the final race of the season after a long race both drivers pull onto the final straight in a dead heat and it all comes down to a drag race to the finish line. Drag racing just skips the long race and gets to the exciting finish.

Okay, thanks.

while the top fuel dragsters are good an' all, they all look the same, i prefer the street eliminator cars, just pushing road legal, who wouldnt want to drive something like this on the road :dopey:

pro street is the way to go.

damn that thing looks cool.

I think a lot of the Europeans that are mystified at drag racing's appeal are that way because they just haven't grown up around macho american culture.

I remember reading something like "Straights are for fast cars, Corners are for Fast Drivers" or something like that.

But, i will look forward to see what PD have done with it. Personally, id like to see one championship that involve multiple types of racing. Track race(with more then two turns)/drag/drifting(?)/etc and only one setup allowed through the whole championship.

Overall, it will be quite fun to see how much the cars have evolved the last 40 years or so.

they do, it's called JunkYard Wars and it was on TLC lol j/k
that would be pretty interesting to see though, a little wierd, but interesting nonetheless.

i think a big reason us americans like drag racing is because we dont have unlimited speed highways (with a few exceptions). so to us its not as much a matter of top speed as it is quickness (something we can do leagaly)

Wouldn't it be awesome if in GT4 you could buy Drag Modifications like you used to be able to get racing modifications. So you could change cars like this
