Ok so I don't know what to do when I get this game. Should I do a drift or grip which is better?

Witch ever one you like,i kinda do both but kinda get caught up with drifting, but grip is really fun on gt5 because of all the tuning you can do to make a really fast car.

i think 'grip' is a silly term all together. what separates 'grip' from regular driving

Well Grip is just a term for the type of racing, but driving is same as that lol,the Grip i know is mainly Time Attacks on various tracks, trying to get fastest time,or could be used as any type of racing, depends whos using it.

I'm not really what sure what is meant with this 'grip or drift' thing. The optimal grip of tire is reached when staying within the optimal slip percentage and angle but i wouldn't consider that drifting. Drifting i usually associate with a lot of smoke, car going sideways and driver using countersteering and while this might be fun and look good it isn't really track racing...

By "grip" I'm assuming usual racing but anyways when you first get the game you are probably going to race first to gain cash then practice drifting if you want

easy answer a little bit of both :D, i don't actually know how to drift, but i like FR car so i can drift a little bit with FR car when it;s oversteer

"Grip racing" is just racing. The term was invented by drifters, but it's silly in my opinion. Saying "grip racing" is like saying "water boating".

There is racing and there is drifting.

If you are trying run fast lap times grip is the way to go. You will not keep up with a good driver in a similar or same car if you are drifting, and they are using a normal racing technique.

I'd go for drift since it's the fastest way... when grip's too low.

If the car just sticks to the road, drifting is just pointless.

Staying within the tires limits is always faster. Drift is not the fastest way ever.

Depends on the track really. When it's touge then I'd definitely smoke 'em. When it's a high-speed course I would maintain speed by gripping.

There is no (paved) track in GT5 where drifting is faster. The hairpin at Monaco and the hairpin at Madrid are the only corners where it might make sense to throw a car sideways, and even then only if your in some **** car that won't turn otherwise.

Fail by me to use the wrong word, but still, you're just repeating my point. When the corner's too sharp and gripping would be too slow, I'd just drift.

Except you can't drift, uMadson :D remember yesterday with the Aristos or wtv it was on Fuji? :D
Me, I drift when the car lets go rather than correct it, but if otherwise, I just leave the tyres to do their thing.

2nd bit is wrong. When you want to drift you use comfort hard tires.

Some people use Sports hards, other suse comfort hards, but they both can drift, I think it's all in what the drifter himself chooses.
